Roisin has turned 50. She's an out there, confident artist. Surely, no matter how battered she must feel, she can't truly underneath be contrite.

She surely must be angry as Hell...for the outing of a private post, for how she's been belittled, both the lack of promotion/interviews, and total lack of support.

Can a proud, successful 50 year old feminist who obviously has worries about child welfare, really allow this to play out this way?

Is she really going to allow herself to be steamrollered and humiliated in this way?

Or is the status quo gonna remain, ages old men lording over women, even in the so called equal rights 2023?

I know JKR has opened a women's refuge which is categorically for women only. Almost every day I wish she'd open something else.

Today I want her to open a record label.

Hearing her say she feels "uncomfortable" and "deeply unsuitable" for this public discourse feels like a kick in the face. None of us woke up one day and decided it'd be fun to goto war but here we are, and we're all on the front lines whether we like it or not. The sooner women musicians realise this and grow a spine the better.'

I wonder if Roisin is now wondering whether it would be better to turn her face into the wind and brave the truth.

It looks like she’s fucked however hand-wringingly apologetic she tries to be. About being a person with a rational opinion.

I so hope she finds a way to speak up. To fight back. But I feel for her. An artist of such brilliance, denounced and quashed for speaking up about the rights of children.

I think out of all the cancelling that I've seen for several years now, Roisin is by far the worst.

JKR? As a billionaire, she has less chance of actually being cancelled as God.

But Roisin is a fantastic prize. She an older confident established successful woman. But not untouchable like Rowling. Cancel Roisin successfully, and no woman is safe.

I wasn't really aware of her until this story. Now I feel she's a salutary tale in this grim story unfolding for a decade now.

I have a sneaking suspicion that certain people come out with the TERF label and want it to lead to utter cancellation because they realise that if this doesn't happen, they may have to contend with the question of women's rights and that stiletto boot may end up on the other foot, kicking them up the you-know-what.

I'm not convinced that everyone who has something angry to say about transgender rights, has made sure that they're not, in fact, oppressing women, in the pursuit of their goals for transgendered people. Thus far, I'm very concerned at the minimal amount of attention that appears to have to been paid, by some, to what seems all too obvious to everyone else.

Are the 'Punch a TERF'-type people actually suitable, as advoates for TG folk ? I have to say that violent methods, including cancellation, are utterly chauvinistic - in what I'd describe as a VERY male way, despite what some might say in their defence. I've seen some truly awful, upsetting things on Twitter. And these are the oppressed, here ? Why don't I believe that ?

@Biffology Yes it’s the bully’s tactic of coming down hard on the slightest perceived rebellion against the oppression, to terrify others away from also speaking the truth.

Let's get a bit Miss Marple here. Evidently, Roisin has said something. Someone has then threatened her. All we are seeing is her response to being threatened.

Why the fkuc else would she begin what we see with 'Please don't call me a TERF' ..? Someone called her a TERF, prior to what has been presented to us. And I dare say that there were things said afterwards, that the person who posted the isolated comment, would prefer to keep us from knowing about.

If a record label mantra is "trans women are women", then the question would be where in the statement that you shouldn't give puberty blockers to mixed-up children denying that statement?

@PaperWalkAndTalk, this is a political approach which is termed totalism , in which there cannot be any acknowledgement of nuances or shades of meaning - such features of the human condition being regarded as forms of dissent.

I note that there are people who are prepared to allow violence to be regarded as a collateral effect - i.e a formally-negligible one, which must be rationalised away - to achieving their aims, which must be realised absolutely.

Totalistic approaches to social and/or political questions tend to reach for authoritarianism, as a means of making those approaches workable on an every-day basis.
