I read this morning that her record label has stopped promoting her new album because of her comments

Never have I ever seen a period where fear masquerades as strength.

I thought I'd been at maximum peak, but just like walking in the Scottish Highlands, there's always a higher peak hidden around the next one.

This is a ritual humiliation. We're too advanced as a civilisation to burn witches at the stake or dunk them in a big pond.

We're too advanced to have showtrials like they did in the McCarthy period where people were disappeared socially in front of our eyes.

No, we have Trial By Twitter, and modern day Maoists and Stalinists that tell you in no uncertain terms you're cancelled, and there's no way back.

I thought I hated organised religion, but Christianity is at least predicated on forgiveness and charity.

What does the Woke neo religion offer that's positive? It doesn't even allow for transgressions to be made up for. Just more humiliation.

Biffology · 31/08/2023 12:04

I'd suggest it's a question of proportion : maybe it's time to push back against calcel culture and reclaim the freedoms that we all need, to be able to function as a healthy society. I can't see how that wouldn't accommodate trans people and Roisin Murphy would be free to have her audience and pursue her career..

Slothtoes · 31/08/2023 12:08

That’s so pathetically craven of Ninja Tune. I hope that Roisin can do a KJK and sue them for defamation for making the implicit claim that she is a transphobe by their actions. (IANAL) If they have said anywhere publicly that she has done anything wrong she should come down on them legally like a ton of bricks

Very much hope she does a JKR and comes back again on this topic like Rhinos predicts. We really need someone to do that in music, that massively sexist UK industry.

Keep going Roisin. All the actually decent creatives will agree with you.

Still happy to make profits off that horrid transphobe. Nothing hypocritical here from the record label.

Biffology · 31/08/2023 12:14

Reading this threat thus far, I'm satisfied that we have all the tools we need, to transcend the current febrile and censorious climate and suggest Another Way.

One starting point would be to simply not give into the demands of those who benefit from that climate. There's a real world there, outside that bubble.

Roisin has mentioned universalism recently, a space where all are welcome - I'm up for that. Let's explore that idea and see where it takes us.

In a sense, the people who are now trying to cancel her, have failed to understand one of the fundamental ideas she has promoted, since forever.

Hmm. Are they then in breech of contract? Messy business.

This is the work of a previously banned poster, so we're taking it down now.

Slothtoes · 31/08/2023 12:26

It would seem that if true, then the record label’s actions are encouraging a pile on against her. Notice that this news article is not based on a direct quote by Ninja Tune though, so we should bear in mind that it may not even be true that this is what the record label are doing.

does feel like someone somewhere really does want Roisin Murphy to be pilloried as a transphobe though, and is stoking this to journalists, which is creepy as fuck. Presumably because she’s a rare and very talented older woman in music. Some people must really hate that. They don’t care that she has simply expressed concern for kids, she has not been ‘transphobic’ in any way. It’s just an easy way to try to remove her from public view.

Have Ninja Tune or Homoelectric made a clear public statement about not supporting this new album, if that’s what they are each doing? I feel like we aren’t able to know the full story at the moment.

All because she didn't want children to be subjected to experimental hormone treatments and surgeries.

You mean that the awful transphobe will fund the glittery, victimised golden children and young adults she was so beastly about?

Wow, this "works" on so many levels.

She/bad, we/good.

The very thing she railed against will now be funded by her talent, blood, sweat, and tears (that last one is very relevant here).

We remain untainted, we're doing the most minimum as required by contract law, while signalling to our client who has taken a wrong turn, and to our other clients, our customer base, that we very much ID with them and not her.

Biffology · 31/08/2023 12:51

If they're ceasing promotion, are there going to be any profits to donate ? It's early days, yet but that mob have shown themselves for who they are.

Meanwhile the rest of us, untainted by their prejudices, can simply go on about our business. Wilfully misinterpreting a private conversation and then mounting a misogynistic vendetta on the back of that, ain't gonna fly with us.

So it's an exciting moment, where we have the chance to break out of an increasingly narrow-minded and frankly very un rock 'n' roll, cultural space.

Biffology · 31/08/2023 12:57

Who's coming along for the ride ?

LondonLass91 · 31/08/2023 13:00

I've just played her on Amazon Alexa, hoping that goes towards streaming.

CavalierApproach · 31/08/2023 13:02

Catching up on this. The level of OTT overreaction to what she has actually done is just wild. And frankly Ninja Tune can get fucked.

Also, apologies if this has already been noted but I keep seeing a strand of narrative around this whole thing that suggests older GC women saying they are fans of Roisin's music are obviously only pretending, jumping on a bandwagon. Like we aren't precisely the right demographic to have been listening to her for decades. I remember seeing Moloko live right after their first album came out, a brilliant night; and lots more times in the 90s.

I know that isn't the main issue but it's always the same, isn't it; the lazy stereotyping. Women over 40 couldn't possibly be an authentically human group of people with a history of buying a variety of music and going to gigs🙄

That will now go towards the unnamed trans charity.

Well said

'I know that isn't the main issue but it's always the same, isn't it; the lazy stereotyping. Women over 40 couldn't possibly be an authentically human group of people with a history of buying a variety of music and going to gigs🙄'

Yep, it's the misogyny that runs through the whole thing. Women are just not real people to these maniacs

Musomama1 · 31/08/2023 13:32

Seeing as the proceeds of her album will go to some godawful trans indoctrination unit, how can I simply send Roisin £10 in an envelope?

Biffology · 31/08/2023 13:43

'Women over 40 couldn't possibly be an authentically human group of people with a history of buying a variety of music and going to gigs'

Those chancers living on borrowed time have put their cards on the table - and are duly dismissed, for reasons that we have copiously detailed in this thread.

It's hilarious isn't it? I'm pretty sure they subconsciously believe women in their 40s and 50s now are literally the same women who were in their 40s and 50s 30, 40, 50 years ago somehow moving unchanged through time. They think we all grew up in the 1950s or something.

The fact that we literally are the cool young people from 80s and 90s photos in raves, underground clubs and political demos just does not compute 😂

(Yep I had Moloko's first album back when they were kind of trip hop. Fi fi fo fun for me!)

It's hilarious, but also another aspect of society's baked in misogyny. Men are people who live lives and age, women are archetypes that have an external meaning applied to them.

Biffology · 31/08/2023 13:59

There's plenty of internal meaning in the records - but I'm not sure the cancel people have ever paid much attention to the words...

WarriorN · 31/08/2023 14:02

Fuck, missed all this. Another Horrific witch trial.

I'd say you're just in time, WarriorN - we're starting to get a head-of-steam up and figuring this out. ✊

Biffology · 31/08/2023 14:13

Those with hidden agendas have been smoked out, leaving Roisin's real audience, people of all walks of life by-the-way, who she can trust.

ArabeIIaScott · 31/08/2023 14:17

Any confirmation that this has actually happened, re Ninja Tune?

I love that label, not going to contact them until I hear something more solid than vague reports from unnamed sources.
