This shows the arrest of a teenage autistic girl by about 5 police officers. From what I can make out it is for a 'hate' crime. She apparently said a police officer was a Lesbian. Her Nan is a lesbian - that police officer is like my Nan.

I cannot comprehend the mindset of these officers.

Lol
I think West Yorkshire police make mn fwr news every year.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 09/08/2023 22:35

good heavens

I'd really like to know the full circumstances there. because on the face of it that looks like inexcusable behaviour by the police

GrabbyGabby · 09/08/2023 22:35

I think this is the only police thread on FWR that felix hasnt stuck his oar in. And just to banish any shred of doubt, your contribution would be so fucking inappropriate on this thread.

JellySaurus · 09/08/2023 22:36

Seems to me it's homophobic to take such offence at being described as lesbian.

Dumbo12 · 09/08/2023 22:36

Surely the homophobic one was the officer who took such exception to the girl saying that she was a lesbian?

Iranoutofmonikers · 09/08/2023 22:43

I live in an area that is full of organised crime. Really obvious, overt, all day, all night crime.
Never a police officer in sight. They won't come out for anything.
The residents in the posher parts of the area pay for private security firms, it is that bad.
I simply cannot believe my eyes at the sight of that number of police officers piling on an autistic teenager.
That was so distressing to watch.
Just awful.

There's time yet!

IcakethereforeIam · 09/08/2023 22:44

Just awful. Poor child. Her mum should have told the Police she was nonbinary. They'd have thrown her a party.

Dumbo12 · 09/08/2023 22:46

I wonder if the deputy mayor ( w. Yorks crime commissioner) has seen this?

The police seem to come out mob handed to deal with women at the moment. I got four police officers come out to deal with me a middle aged disabled woman with a walker who was making the full grown abusive shouty man having a go at me scared the other day.

It's insane.

I thought that was over the top.

But this, what they've put that girl through is so over the top and so completely the wrong way to deal with an autistic person having a meltdown. I'm appalled at the behaviour of the police.

Toseland · 10/08/2023 00:54

I can't bear to watch it with the sound up. Why has a male officer got into the small space with her? I'd not be happy pinned in like that by a strange man. Why are there so many officers?
It's fucking awful!

DiabolicalFinial · 10/08/2023 01:07

Has any offical statement been released about this - I want to know what their superiors are going to do about it.

Whatever was said, the behaviour of the police was utterly appalling and completely inappropriate. I felt sick watching the video, that poor girl.

Pocodaku · 10/08/2023 01:17

Really hard to watch, that poor girl! I agree with the posters who’ve said it’s actually homophobic to take such great offense at being called a lesbian.

PandaExpress · 10/08/2023 01:22

Absolutely disgusting behaviour from the police. That blond officer is unhinged. Somebody who is in such a position, shouldn't be so easily rattled. I'm disgusted by her. I also find it really frightening to be honest. I hope the tide is going to turn soon. Its only 6 months or so, since I opened my eyes to all this madness and it's everywhere I look now! Is there an end in sight??

I'm 7 years in and it just gets worse and worse.

It really is a case of once you see it you can't unsee it. You'll just notice it more and more!

I hope there is an end to all this eventually. But i wouldn't be holding my breath as it's not going to be any time soon.

FOJN · 10/08/2023 07:43

That's hard to watch. I hope the police officer who instigated that outrage is fired.

Five fucking police officers to arrest a young girl with autism for the crime of making an observation.

Do you wonder if any of them stop and think about what they are doing and why? Do you think any of them see their actions as similar to the secret police forces of oppressive regimes?

Aren't the police trained to de-escalate situations? Clearly they spend less time on that training than "inclusivity training".

The look on the blond officers face at the end - it's either pure spite or possibly she had already realised she had fucked up.

Our police force is a disgrace. There is no point in them complaining about lack of funding or officers when this is how they use the resources they do have.

OhHolyJesus · 10/08/2023 07:44

This is so awful, that poor girl and her mum, in their own home.

It was very distressing to see how many officers where there, it looked like a raid.

Was it really necessary for a male officer to climb into the cupboard and trap her in and talk to her when she was already so upset, where did they think she was running to, how does he think that will help?

The overspend in resources, the approach and execution of this is so unnecessary, she wasn't even homophobic. And even if she was, this is what that would deserve?

This will be a whitewash I'm sure but all officers attending should be investigated and the family should consider further action.

Precisely my thoughts.

FannyCann · 10/08/2023 08:08

This is where hate crime laws lead. Police who are incapable of using any common sense and interpret the law however they want. And find it so much easier to make arrests for hate crime than to do anything about for instance..oh I don't know 🤔 maybe the epidemic of knife crime? Two fatal stabbing of teenage youths in my very sedate city just this year. It's everywhere. But how much easier to bump up the statistics by arresting harmless autistic teenagers who offended an officer.

Remember the student who was arrested and fined for calling a police horse Gay.

I'm pretty sore the average drunk days and does many worse things but again, an easy target.

Pretty sure the average drunk says...

Didn't proofread 🙄

Boiledbeetle · 10/08/2023 08:13

Posted without comment other than to say

At this point this police officer is looking at the distressed autistic girl with scoliosis being pulled up from the floor by her arm. Whose only crime so far seems to have been saying that this police officer looked like her nan who is a lesbian (or words to that effect).

Yet more police idiocy.
FannyCann · 10/08/2023 08:23

Meant to add this comment from the article. I think the lesson is beware of saying the words "gay" or "lesbian" within earshot of a police person for fear they decide you are being hateful even when you're not.

Thames Valley Police confirmed Mr Brown was arrested and issued with a fixed penalty notice.
A spokesman said: "Although he thought calling a police horse gay was funny it could cause offence to people walking past."

Soubriquet · 10/08/2023 08:27

Ugh. She could not look more smug in that picture.

She’s going to be vilified on SM and she deserves every comment

This is the logical end consequence of all "identity"-based "hate" legislation or HR rules.

Once you have an approved "identity", anyone referring to it in any way can be accused of "hate"; and you can wield it yourself as justification for anything you want to do - anyone suggesting that your "identity" doesn't give you a pass can be accused of "hate" for that suggestion.

If two people in a situation have "identities" then there's a sort of hierarchical caste system - some identities clearly trump others. Those without "identities" are the lowest caste.

In this case "lesbian" clearly beats "autistic", but it would lose hard to "trans".

The Equity Diversity and Inclusion edition of Rock Paper Scissors?

I couldn’t watch all that, I scrubbed through it and got the jist.

Reminds me of that poor autistic lad that got a criminal record for asking a transman PCSO about their biological sex. That story haunts me because we didn’t know anything about it until the conviction was reported in the press and if Team Terf had heard earlier we maybe could’ve crowdfunded him a specialist legal team/rustled him up some support via Free Speech Union.

Fingers crossed the incident in the video plays out differently and this time the police are punished for their outrageous overreaction instead of the autistic teenager - but if the girl in the video needs crowdfunding for either a criminal or civil case, I’m in.
