virgin active changing room policy

Does anyone know Virgin Active's policy for changing rooms? There was a "woman" displaying male genitals while changing in the women's this morning. Women's, not family. I'll be honest, I didn't feel comfortable getting undressed. Before I'm accused of staring, it was hard to miss as the person was right where you come out of the showers.

VA aren't going to care are they?

Virgin - like Pure, David Lloyd (I believe) and others allow males who say they are women to use the ladies changing rooms. Funny how in all my many years using gyms I have very rarely seen a woman strut around bear-arsed baker and only one really flashing her bits (she was quite an odd lady) but it seems to becoming more common for other people to have their bits on display. Wonder why.

Men, so I have been told, don’t display their bits in mens changing rooms and loos as if they were prize growing marrows.

TakeMe2Insanity · 07/08/2023 18:21

Interesting. As virgin have signs about saying no boys over 8 in the womens so surely that would apply here.

twelly · 07/08/2023 18:26

Surely this behaviour is what illegal -as a man is showing his genitals to females and exploring himself in public

Norma27 · 07/08/2023 18:35

I was just looking for the email correspondence I had from them. Recently my virgin media emails were ‘lost’. Now restored, the ones from virgin active are now corrupt and can’t be read!

HardyEM · 07/08/2023 18:36

Ask for a hard copy of their changing room policy. It will likely say "we aim to balance the needs of all our members at club level". This has obviously not happened if you were shocked and distressed by the presence of a naked man in your female changing room. Women have the protection of our sex, gender critical beliefs and religious beliefs. Was it reasonable for you to believe that you had access to single sex facilities?

Sarah Jane Baker, ‘the punch a TERF ‘ convicted torturer and attempted murderer , now back in prison, has had full genital surgery,

Lauren Jeska , who is serving eighteen years for assaulting and nearly killing the man who investigated whether Lauren was qualified to run in women’s events, has had an orchiorectomy.

The person who was recently in the news at the swimming event re girls changing rooms, has had ‘sex reassignment surgery’ ( own words).

it’s no guarantee of welcome behaviour.

This. Modify your body all you like. It doesn't change your sex and doesn't change the risk.

I would've walked straight out to reception and loudly stated that their was a man exposing his penis in the women's changing room. Because that is what was happening.

Then watch as they imploded trying to claim that he was somehow a woman.

Their changing rooms should either be mixed sex or single sex, but they should not use 'women's' to describe a room that is actually mixed sex just so some men can get validation of their 'gender' feelings.

Men who deliberately expose themselves to women and children ARE sexual predators. Their 'gender identity' is irrelevant.

It’s only a matter of time before this happens at David Lloyd (if it hasn’t already) and I too would make a huge fuss at reception. I like to think I would also confront the owner of the male genitals, but I’m not sure I’m brave enough.

SpainToday · 07/08/2023 19:34

Just realised it has already happened at David Lloyd, but thankfully not at my club yet, I suspect would have heard if there had been an incident.

Under the Sexual Offences Act 2003 indecent exposure is an offence where someone intentionally exposes their genitals with the intention of being seen and causing alarm or distress.

This. Call the police. But maybe a bit late now
next time go to front desk, say you are calling the police under this act. And phone in front of them
make sure you can describe man accurately, ideally quietly ask another women to look and confirm as second witness

Eventually the inevitable will happen, there will be a major assault that escapes into the press, and then we'll see a lot of politicians suddenly reversing ferrets at high speed.

Sadly no one appears to be willing to listen to women; only to bad publicity when the body count becomes too noticeable.

This branch has kids from any age. There are lockable cubicles but I don't want to have to hide - away from hairdryers and mirrors and lockers - in what should be a safe place for women

Brokendaughter · 07/08/2023 20:48

It should be illegal to describe a changing room or toilet as being for Women if biological males are permitted to use it.

Why are there trading standards about not falsely describing what you sell & ads banned for being deceptive, but women can be intentionally deceived about who is going to be let use spaces that have been understood for centuries to be for biological women only?

All changing rooms that men identifying as women are permitted to enter should be labelled as unisex, because the second one of them is in there it is not a womens changing room.

BeverlyBrook · 07/08/2023 23:15

Well fancy that. I got deleted. Had no idea I wasn't allowed to say any of what I said.

I will repeat it and see if it scrapes through the censor.

I phoned up my virgin active gym and asked them if women's changing was only for women. A definite yes and to come and tell reception if anyone was there who shouldn't be.

JazzyBBG · 07/08/2023 23:57

Who is your MP OP? Would they be supportive?

I agree with another poster. Twitter this please.

The fact that these terms are banned is alarming.

Yes it is, it's a thing, we all know it is, why they heck can't we talk about it.....

Norma27 · 08/08/2023 07:55

@BeverlyBrook that is really interesting after my interaction with them in 2020.
Would you mind asking them to put it in writing, and asking head office to confirm.
When I did, the manager of my gym agreed with me but asked head office to confirm who said it was the law to allow men in there if they wanted to flash their penis at my daughters.

imed · 08/08/2023 07:58

Googling the airport code for Malaga... ahh who'd have guessed that one?

MagpiePi · 08/08/2023 08:01

Wyks · 07/08/2023 15:01

Women and girls clearly don’t want to see a naked penis in the changing room

are there cubicles that you can change in or is it all just one big open room?

Why is the burden on women to make provision for men who shouldn’t be there in the first place?

Unfortunately they will gaslight you that anyone who is in there and says there are a woman is a woman. Even if they're six foot four with a beard and their tackle out.

Rather like the NHS telling that poor woman that the video footage of her being raped was not real. 2+2 make 5 Winston. Say it, or it's the rats.

Didnt WiSpa do this.
The woman in reception was told about orientation? Which means bugger all in a single sex space (not a safe space, no such thing)

The Wi Spa scandal is worse than we thought

The liberal media’s branding of this incident as a ‘hoax’ was disgraceful.

Merager complained to a local magazine that the women weren't done for indecent exposure! It's discrimination against men. TRA = MRA in plain sight:
"Why weren’t the two dozen women in the spa indecently exposed? Only men can be indecently exposed, but women can’t? Only the penis is indecent.”

I didn’t mean that women should have to hide. It was a simple question of are the cubicles or just an open space

Clearly if there are cubicles, the trans women could have used one but instead chose to show off a naked penis

That’s flashing

LulooLemon · 08/08/2023 11:54

" Clearly if there are cubicles, the trans women could have used one but instead chose to show off a naked penis "

I think confining themselves to a cubicle would defeat the purpose of the mission for the person in question.
