'Do you ever discuss a topic and think: ‘I’d love to hear that on Woman’s Hour’? Well, here’s your chance! Listener Week is coming up & we'd like to hear from YOU! Whether it's personal stories or guest suggestions, let us know what you want to hear'

The comments are interesting, but clearly all the many women commenting are not the right kind of women for Womans Hour.

Am not on twitter

Really? Your posts on a previous thread would suggest otherwise @IwantToRetire

Didn't they have Grace Lavery on, of all people?

Yes they did. And wasn't Anita Rani gushing over someone about fucking lipstick? Grace Lavery or some other TW I think.

Motorina · 30/07/2023 20:27

I'm not on twitter so can't suggest it, but I'd like to hear Baroness Nicholson. Obviously been doing sterling work on this issue, but has had a long, interesting and at times controversial career prior to that. Has succeeded in politics inspite of being female and disabled. Active in charity work. All round powerful woman and good egg. I'd be delighted to listen to her being interviewed by someone intelligent.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 30/07/2023 20:29

The Baroness would be great.

How about Starmer and ambush him with Jenny Murray

”Good morning Sir Kier, and welcome to Woman’s Hour. Unfortunately the wet as a fish interviewer your office requested has been delayed by unaccountably being locked in the basement supplies cupboard with her list of approved questions, but fortunately Jenny Murray was in the building and has agreed to conduct the interview and extemporise.”

Good idea viques . It's been a pleasure to see Jenni regaining her voice in the Daily Mail which has been excellent in ensuring that women's voices are finally being heard.

Has it ever occured to you that many have given up on FWR because a few are policing threads.

The sheer bare faced chutzpah of you posting this @IwantToRetire as someone who religiously polices not only threads and posters but the entire Board.

At this rate FWR will die a slow death because it will only be used by the small number who spend their time just re-affirming that their view of the world is the correct one.

Doubtful, it is one of the most visited Boards on MN, lurkers regularly pop up on threads to say how useful they have found it, new posters likewise.

If several posters are saying they have a problem with how you come across on this Board wouldn't you reflect on why that is and maybe, just maybe, think you may indeed be the problem?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 30/07/2023 20:36

Abigal Shrier, Martina Navratilova, Riley Gaines, Bev Jackson, Kate Harris, Kemi Badenoch, Miriam Cates & of course Kellie Jay Keen - all good knowledgeable speakers

The posts tonight are all pure DARVO.

I am slightly taken aback at the suggestions which seem to show that those who use twitter only know about a very few women, and for some reason think Helen Joyce is the most important. (Yes I know twitter is just an empty echo chamber, but maybe that's why media companies use it.)

Am not on twitter (and any way they wouldn't bother to notice) but would suggest a round up of all the women who may not have written a book, but have actually lost their job, their child/ren, friends, membership of the Labour Party just for believing in the biological fact of sex.

The reality of what is going is, is what is horrendous. Women's Hour should at least acknowledge this by making public these women whose lives have been turned upside down by TRAs.

Why do you feel the need to be snide about the suggestions of Helen Joyce?

There are numerous great reasons to have her on and numerous other great women as well. But why are you ‘taken aback’ as if suggesting her first would be a poor choice? Are you intending to shame those who suggested her for some reason, because that really does come across with that intention?

Martina Navratilova or Sharron Davies.

ArabeIIaScott · 30/07/2023 20:50

I do mean it when I say it would be BRILLIANT for them to have some voices from the 'other side' on, too.

I can think of several, but I doubt they'd agree to it.

Grace Lavery v Helen Joyce was a great debate that never happened, of course.

Has anyone suggested Helen Joyce? Grin

or Hannah Barnes. Though was she on after Time to Think was published? I bet she wasn't. Sharron Davies is another good call and The Baroness.

PatientZorro · 30/07/2023 20:54

Allison Bailey!
sod it, it’s almost making me wish I was on evil twitter….

Yes - thinking about this, there's rarely a debate is there? We get interviews with an individual with challenge from interviewers (well women get challenged - transactivists less so) but no robust discussion between parties.

Such a shame - although not surprising as there's so little for transactivists to work with. But this lack of critical challenge is why we're in this current mess.

Wouldn’t this be part of ‘let them speak’, the initiative to let as many of the most vocal trans activists speak on panels as possible ? L

Brefugee · 30/07/2023 20:58

Have not RTFT - has anyone suggested Helen Joyce. I think she wrote a book.

😁

😁

But it is not an important book and she has been invited on to Woman’s Hour too many times to count….

ArabeIIaScott · 30/07/2023 21:00

Actually someone I'd lvoe to hear from again would be Germaine Greer, but I think she's not doing much lately.

Does Emma Barnett still host it?

ArabeIIaScott · 30/07/2023 21:13

Dunno. She may have been sent to a gulag after asking too many questions. They don't like it when interviewers do that.
