Considering They knew she was pregnant how could they think it OK to ignore her calling for help?. How much of a click cruel selfish bastard do you have to be to do that?

There are an awful lot of them about, most of them working in the police and prison service.
They did not care.
Racist, misogynist, nasty, cruel men.

PomTiddlyPom · 28/07/2023 19:45

They have blood on their hands every one of the officers who ignored her.
The blood of an innocent no less. I hope it haunts them.
A disgrace for 21st century Britain.

wonderstuff · 28/07/2023 19:46

There was a review at the time, no one lost their job. Pregnant women shouldn’t be in prison, they are 7x more likely to suffer still birth than in the community, we simply can’t give women in prison the same level of care as in communities, this isn’t a one off, it’s an ongoing risk.

Winterscomingagain · 28/07/2023 19:49

Failed by so many people including a midwife. What a horrendous story.

Christ, what an awful statistic.

Absolutely appalling and inhumane treatment of another human being. Really cannot help if she was treated this way because she was black, another horrendous story of inhumane treatment of a black girl/women. Child Q and now this poor woman and her daughter. She was a care leaver, the system failed her, locked her away and cost her child their life. When will enough be enough of the deeply ingrained and systematic racism in the criminal justice system, health and education change?!

brokenlore · 28/07/2023 20:21

Rianna had everything stacked against her didn't she, female, black, young, a care leaver. She was treated worse than a brood mare or a dog. Only just into adulthood.
I hope the bastards who were meant to be there for her, swing.
I hope Rianna can somehow find peace, I hope she goes on to do something amazing with her life, I hope she gets support to rebuild her life, I hope her life gets better and better every day. Absolutely heartbreaking, you'd have to be one seriously fucked up individual to ignore a labouring women and new born, actually I reckon only a psychopath would be capable of such barbaric cruelty.

Wonderfully said.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 28/07/2023 20:52

Terrible story. And yet again - no consequences for those responsible.

ChiaraRimini · 28/07/2023 20:58

The prison officer who ignored her calls for help should be on trial for manslaughter.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 28/07/2023 21:04

This is deeply shocking and utterly heartbreaking. That poor, poor young woman and her poor baby... neither of them had a chance really. I hope that she is getting some proper support to help her rebuild her life.

Ailsamary · 28/07/2023 21:16

Its a shame the poor girl isn't on mumsnet to get the support of the people here.

What an utter disgrace the system is. Women are far more likely to be locked up for robbery than men are. Don't know why. They should be providing this poor girl with counselling, I can't see her getting over this.

It is awful that no staff have been held accountable, I wonder if it would have been different if the lass was white.

I just feel so sad for her.

Emelene · 28/07/2023 21:21

How can doctors be charged with manslaughter by gross negligence for making mistakes whilst overstretched and trying to care for patients, when it seems like the prison officer(s) who deliberately ignored this mum and baby didn’t even lose their job? ☹️

She will be getting zero help.

bunchofboys · 28/07/2023 21:24

Horrific. That poor girl.

ScrollingLeaves · 28/07/2023 21:26

I think this is one of the most obscene and uncivilised acts of abuse and omission of a person by an official body - in what is supposed to be an advanced, knowledgeable, and rich country - that I have ever heard of.

She should not even have been in prison. She should not have been told her baby would be removed at birth. She should have had her pregnancy monitored and have been moved to a hospital.

This was murder by injustice and negligence.

Spendonsend · 28/07/2023 21:26

Soontobe60 · 28/07/2023 21:29

There are no words! This young woman was failed by everyone around her.

Why were males the guards for a pregnant teenage girl?

ScrollingLeaves · 28/07/2023 21:33

A 18 year old pregnant care-leaver in prison for robbery too. Can you imagine anything so absurd, down right stupid, and so much a waste of two lives?

Who was the judge and jury who made that erudite decision?

It may as well be the 18th century.

wutheringkites · 28/07/2023 21:35

There have been so many cases like this. It's incredibly sad and totally avoidable.

Pregnant women should not be in prison.

She was 18 and in an adult prison. Was she supposed to be in a different type of prison?

I’m sorry but nah, have you seen the way people on here behave if they get a whiff a poster might be have low socio-economic status?

Plus the standard response to single mums- ‘stupid choice to get pregnant by that man wasn’t it?’ Plus the glee with which posters jump on anyone who admits wrongdoing, even something as common and frequently excused as speeding.

It’s appalling what happened to that woman and her baby, and she should have support to repair her life, but mumsnet is very far from being the answer.

bernieaa · 28/07/2023 21:42

At least she's not being blamed for her child's death..... Because that would be my fear.

Life is so tough for people in that position - care leavers and had such a tough time in life already. I feel for her,
