I just don’t get it. It’s a woman playing in the World Cup, the Women’s World Cup and they’re non-binary which just means they go by they/them and don’t identify as a woman and this is a celebration? Anyone to question it is closed minded? Didn’t people used to get recognised for achieving something or at least for overcoming actual obstacles.

'Historic' - the World Cup's first out trans player

There is much discussion to be found about transgender athletes in sport. In Australia and New Zealand, one has been helping drive their country's bid for World Cup glory.

Still female then..

BringOnSummerHolidays · 26/07/2023 22:23

As I’m understanding this, they are a biological woman, not taking testosterone, or any medical procedure, playing in the woman’s league? All they have done is really asking people to address them differently? (I’m using the pronouns they prefer).

ditalini · 26/07/2023 22:24

To be fair, I think it would be great if an out transwoman played at the male world cup. Or an out gay man.

Yeah, it's utterly underwhelming. Particularly in a field such as women's football which is extremely inclusive so really not a big deal.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 26/07/2023 22:25

Yep! Still female. You’d think an article about a female playing in the women’s World Cup would firstly not be news and secondly if it was be, the article would be pretty short but they somehow go on and on like it’s something special to behold.

yeah

a TW playing in men's football, that would be worth celebrating

I'll wait

I am confused. Why is Quinn called transgender? I thought non-binary means non-binary (ie doesn’t identify with either gender) and transgender means identifies with the gender different from that related to natal sex. Are the definitions changing?

Brk · 26/07/2023 22:31

Transactivists who work in the media are desperately searching for attractive female ‘trans’ people to turn the coverage around trans issues away from the sex crimes committed by certain transwomen. The activists don’t want trans coverage in the media to be about rapes by transwomen, they want us applauding unthreatening sports heroes who they can claim
are trans.

🙄

Lorrries · 26/07/2023 22:34

But they've got short hair, so they can't be a woman, surely?

Yes I'd forgotten about Jaiyah - I read about that at the time. He sounds well grounded and good luck to him.

FrippEnos · 26/07/2023 22:35

Its the same story that they ran for the Olympics, with the obvious changes.

Francesgumm · 26/07/2023 22:39

Woman - with short hair - plays football in the Women’s World Cup - but as my DD says it’s one of the special people!

meowgender · 26/07/2023 23:03

Sounds like she is attention-seeking.

Because it seems trans is an umbrella term these days that includes everyone who doesn't identify with their biological sex. So if you move somewhere else on the spectrum (or off it in the case of non binary?) then you are trans.

I don't believe any of this. I'm just parroting the usual explanations

PorcelinaV · 27/07/2023 02:32

It shows people who watch sport that you can be non-binary and still play fantastic sport.

Canadians really have gone stupid over this stuff.

Littlepinkstarsbyradish · 27/07/2023 03:07

Trans is an umbrella term that includes non-binary or gender fluid people
good on them for being themselves and playing sport at an elite level, don’t see the issue here at all

And to those saying “she’s got short hair”, so many of their teammates are women with short hair 🙄
Its obviously more than that, I’m sure they have had many examples in their sporting career of women with short hair. They feel differently, don’t diminish them

Ok. So why is them playing in the womens’ World Cup?

Surely by these new fangled-standards where ‘feeling different’ is apparently so remarkable as to create an entire new category of human, Quinn should be refusing to play on a team designated for boring old-fashioned women-with-vaginas-and-lady-feelz?

I don't see why it's a story that someone that claims not to identify with femininity can play sport.

We all know that someone like that can play sport.

What, is it going to magically stop her legs working?

I doubt very much that she is the instigator of this press coverage

The argument against trans people in sport is based entirely on sex chromosomes (it seems to me) so where else would they play? surely this is where they would play??
honestly - consistency please

I’m merely pointing out Quinn’s inconsistency!

Either you are an adult human female (ie a woman) and thus belong in the Womens’ sporting category or you aren’t.

Quinn says Quinself isn’t a woman ¯(ツ)_/¯

You seem to have committed a misgendering?

Unless my nana is correct and ‘she’ is indeed the cat’s mother?

CapEBarra · 27/07/2023 04:09

So they are a female playing in a female team? What’s wrong with that? Nothing, as far at I’m concerned. I do take issue when a hairy 6’4” rugby player called Tiffany Unicorn Leilani wants to play in a female team but needs to tuck her cock and balls away first.

Stealing a great response from Twitter...

Sorry but this is insensitive. Non-binary people suffer from extreme self-centredness which makes playing team sports almost impossible.
