Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Was I just scoped out to see if I'm GC?

I was just at a work event and a colleague just told me she needed a wee but couldn't go because the toilets were unisex and she didn't feel comfortable and looked at me quizzically. I replied by telling her I'd seen some ladies ones on the way in that were just around the corner and gave her directions. But I'm now wondering if this was some kind of hint I should have picked up on! 🤔

As a person who often needs the disabled loo at short notice I actually object to them being repurposed as unisex (gender neutral). I have an invisible disability and need a clean easily accessible space, I do not need to form a queue behind various special categories and then find that the loo paper and soap has run out.

I totally agree. I use the accessible loo at times and the ladies at others, depending on my needs at the time. These loos should be reserved for people with some kind of disability.

I have HP pens that I welcome anyone in the office to borrow. Most of the women are very enthusiastic to pick one and only one person has been disgusted at the mere presence of them but he's very petty. He even reported me to HR because I made a joke about my cancer treatment.
Anyway the pens tend to lead to a JKR discussion and she has many fans in my industry.

GC - Gravimetric Calibrator. I like it.

Recently had a convo at work where i outlined what i think in broad terms and one chap said "oh like the Harry Potter woman?" and i said "something like that" and that was it.

But i often make jokes about how i'm going to identify out of my Ancient Crone-ness as a middle aged middle class white man and make a power grab, which they also find amusing.

In a weird side tangent DD works with rescue animals and there's been a sizable amount of chinchillas surrendered. People get them thinking they are like big hamsters but don't realise the care or lifespan of them. They make wonderful pets.

Some of you have filthy minds 😲 Shocked, I tell you.
Though it may explain some of the terrible reading comprehension on here.

And yep, OP, she was definitely scoping you out. You need to start another convo. Just be careful with that bloody geranium!

Snap. If I'm having a walking stick day I'll usually use the ladies. If I'm having a walker or wheelchair day then it's the disabled loo as I'm going to need the rails in order to get up off the loo again and the space to manoeuvre the walker or wheelchair

But if I can mange to use the ladies then I'll leave the disabled loo for someone whose need is greater than mine that day.

I wouldn't be impressed on a day that I needed the disabled loo to discover that it was now the general unisex toilet.

It was a long fight to get decent levels of disabled toilet provision (and it's still nowhere near good enough in lots of places) and those giving it away so easily need to have a word with themselves.

I was at a work meeting when i spotted suffragette ribbons on the workbag of a colleague I'd never met before.

When we were standing near each other I hissed "GC?" at her. She nodded. I emailed her later and, as a result, she introduced me to another group of women activists.

We definitely need ways of identifying each other

Although OP a suspicious part of me thinks procede with caution. Although she may well be GC its not unheard of for the Traliban to seek out people to target.

A 90s singer who I positively adore made a hilarious but subtle dig at identity politics at a gig I was at a few weeks ago. God I was pleased that he had retained his sardonic scepticism.

I was subjected to Billy Fucking Bragg last year when he supported Paul Heaton.

Which 90s singer would provide better banter?

Ooh give us a clue?

Probably safe to say it won't be Billy Bragg

DisforDarkChocolate · 18/07/2023 19:53

@EmmaGrundyForPM

It's Billy 'Fucking' Bragg. You must use his proper name.

In Ancient Rome there was a debate as to whether the slaves should all wear a uniform. The senate decided that it was a bad idea because
a they would be able to identify each other
b the slaves would realise how high the slave population was
c insurrection?
I think it would be quite the eye opener if all the GC women and men had a way of identifying each other

Interesting! I did not know this!

Whilst that maybe a Great Chinchilla, it isn't a Grand Chinchilla. And as I obviously reject appropriation, I can not accept a GC pretending to be a GC.

I have a 100% fail rate on rodent identification and no intention of fixing that any time soon.

Just look for women with eyes, brains, and the slightly weary expression.

Mason use a funny handshake, but that doesn’t work post Covid because many people are still a bit twitchy about touching. Maybe there could be a special eye roll.Sort of left then up and over to the right then forward. If anyone says “oh dear Viques, are you ok?” you could claim an eyelash in your eye. A fellow TERF could respond with a similar eye roll.

Interestingly rabbits aren't rodents, they are lagomorphs.

I've long been looking for a genuine piece of suffragette jewelry to wear with pride - I love pearls and amethysts especially.

In the meantime, perhaps a geranium will have to do....

I didn't realise what a pretty flower they were.

I once looked at Glinner's followers on Twitter and found a dear friend was also a follower. I reached out and now we're messaging daily about the assault on women's rights.

There's lots of us out there - but some of us are too scared to speak up.

Campervangirl · 18/07/2023 20:58

@Georgyporky
Brilliant 😂

FlirtsWithRhinos · 18/07/2023 21:17

A few years ago I was in a park grumbling circumspectly about TRA overreach to a friend (who has now peaked but back then thought I just had a weird bee in my bonnet about stuff that would never happen).

A young woman came over to us and I assumed I was about to get a load of abuse...she said she heard us talking and recommended we watch some Magdalen Berns videos 😍

Silentmama2 · 18/07/2023 21:23

I assumed you looked like gemma colins too lol

Actually his proper name is Cis Billy Bragg. You know, to distinguish him from all of us who identify as Bill Bragg.
