Was I just scoped out to see if I'm GC?

I was just at a work event and a colleague just told me she needed a wee but couldn't go because the toilets were unisex and she didn't feel comfortable and looked at me quizzically. I replied by telling her I'd seen some ladies ones on the way in that were just around the corner and gave her directions. But I'm now wondering if this was some kind of hint I should have picked up on! 🤔

I have sent the link to DH. I don't expect to be disappointed. It is my birthday in the next month.

I was running my club at school yesterday and some of the kids were over excited as it’s so close to school holidays. I sat one boy on one side of the room and one in the other. They quipped, “You can’t do that miss, it’s segregation” to which I replied, “Segregation isn’t always a bad thing.” Two girls at the back stood up and called out “Yes! Exactly miss, we’ve been saying that!”

I’m very hopeful they weren’t actually talking about my behaviour management techniques. I replied, “We segregate foxes from chickens, don’t we?”, which I hope carried on the secret conversation (if we were having one).

The jewellery is beautiful but I fear too subtle.

I’ve just invested in a suffragette pin. Let’s see how many geranium buttholes I see.

Name change as this is totally outing. In my organisation we're at home on Teams some days and in the office on others. We aren't allowed a virtual background and people put a lot of effort into having unrealistically tidy bookshelves etc behind them. I have a deliberately cluttered set of shelves with this suffragette sash hanging there. Wink

I was watching a Netflix drama and one of the female characters said to the other (in their workplace) she was going upstairs to use the ladies as one of the male characters left the unisex loos in a state. It was plot-led, as it meant she went to the toilet on her own, but such heresy made my ears prick up.

People have asked which film/TV mention JKR. A film that mentioned JKR was The Lovebirds (which btw was really enjoyable).

And last night JKR was mentioned in glowing terms in Ted Lasso. She's a cultural lightening rod, so we look at mention of her as a signal. One of the script writers is a TERF.

There have been others.

Interestingly rabbits aren't rodents, they are lagomorphs.

The things you learn here! :o)

The difference is that a disabled bathroom is one loo and one sink in one room. Male or female, you are the only person in that space at that time (unless you have a carer with you and presumably you've consented to that. If not, whole other discussion).

"Unisex toilets' often mean several toilet cubicles and shared sinks meaning you are NOT the only person in that space and could be the only female person in there with one (or more) male people. Toilets are places where you make yourself quite vulnerable. This is particularly true with cubicle doors which do not always cover you from floor to ceiling (or even left to right) and sometimes do not lock etc correctly.

Lots of vulnerable disabled people are much safer in toilets with cubicle doors with gaps. Anyone collapsing on the loo needs to to visible. My Dd isn’t allowed to use the disabled loo at school for this reason.

What's your point?

Mine is that single sex bathrooms should be maintained and that unisex disabled bathrooms are not comparable because of their additional privacy.

I doubt your point is that your daughter cannot use the disabled facilities but would be much safer in cubicle-style bathrooms despite them being frequented by men.

My point is that the craze for turning blocks into ‘gender neutral’ (mix sex) toilets with their full height doors, means there’s now lots of vulnerable people that are less safe, if they had a medical emergency behind the toilet door. When you have single sex toilet blocks with the door gaps there is a degree of visibility for safety. Single sex toilet blocks should be retained.

Fair comment. A lot of feminists center the needs of white able bodied women yet believe they stand for women as a whole.

The disabled toilets are specifically laid out to accomodate a wheelchair. So must be accessible on the ground floor (or lift), have properly dimensioned doors, enough floorspace for thw wheelchair to turn. Enough space on at least one side of the toilet for the person to move from the wheelchair to the toilet. A safety cord. A specially made sink with specially made tap to be able to reach and use whilst sitting in a wheelchair.

I don’t see how your skin-colour has anything to do with a toilet that accomodates these needs.

Because they require much more space than your average bog and also are self contained with a wash basin they are for both sexes.

How do you find that such an accomodation has anything to do with centering white (peach coloured skin) able bodied women?
