The tweet, sharing without comment. For now at least!

My mother used to make a cake with raisins and chunks of apple in it,I think it was called 'bonfire cake.'

Nigelladamascena · 11/07/2023 15:36

I am here for all the cake 🎂.

same. I don't discriminate like some of these bigots. I guess you could say I am pancakeual.

ohhhhhh GIF

Controversial take there from @Nigelladamascena and @ArabeIIaScott

Chersfrozenface · 11/07/2023 15:43

@ArabeIIaScott equally comfortable with a crêpe or a galette, eh?

Nigelladamascena · 11/07/2023 15:53

All cake is valid, acceptance without exception.

MavisMcMinty · 11/07/2023 15:56

I can only make three cakes - Nigella’s chocolate cherry cake, Nigel Slater’s triple ginger cake, and Victoria sponge because I love that the recipe I learnt from starts with “First weigh your eggs”.

(I also make shortbread biscuits but this isn’t about biscuits.)

MavisMcMinty · 11/07/2023 15:59

Also, because I have an Aga that’s unregulatable temperature-wise and is usually MADWOMAN HOT, I do all cake recipes in muffin cases, as they cook more quickly and evenly than a big cake.

Slothtoes · 11/07/2023 16:00

You’re all ridiculous and it’s coffee and walnut cake all the way. Apple Welsh cake sounds delicious but surely it must make the cake too wet? Recipe please if you have one?

Where is NK off to? Who is the successor? Will she apologise to LGB people for not representing them? Will Stonewall compensate all the public bodies that they have misled with Stonelaw?

I am going to be controversial here and say, I don't just like cake.

I like beer too.

Are people seriously going to fill up this thread with this cake stuff?
Wouldn't it be better to leave some space for discussion of the consequences of Nancy Kelly quitting?

Slothtoes · 11/07/2023 16:04

Hold on, Welshcakes though lovely aren’t actually cakes, though, are they. A bit like seahorses, or ladybirds…

Why are you doing this cake thing. Seriously? It is annoying trying to sift through the pages trying to see if there is anything of relevence.

JanesLittleGirl · 11/07/2023 16:13

OK, confession time. I have no knowledge of or interest in cooking but I'm very keen on eating. I only go into the kitchen to eat breakfast or to pour a glass of wine. DH does the cooking but has never baked a cake. Fortunately, his Mum is a baking angel. She bakes loads of fruit cakes and a perfect chocolate sponge with chocolate fudge icing (perfect with cream). But my absolute favourite is a plain sponge that is so light that it is only the weight of the lemon curd and whipped cream filling that stops it from floating away.

Chersfrozenface · 11/07/2023 16:14

How about we start a dedicated cake thread?

But where? Food and recipes forum? To be named Cake - recipes and opinions?

TWETMIRF · 11/07/2023 16:16

IcakethereforeIam · 11/07/2023 14:50

Ooh, would you consider having a cornish split for me?

I haven't seen splits for years. Any sitings would be good to know about.

Lemon drizzle is disgusting, as is battenburg, carrot and coffee cake. Cream is also gross, beastly stuff

Slothtoes · 11/07/2023 16:16

RebelliousCow I cross posted with you, in my second post to this thread just now.
And if you’re trying to keep other posters on track, I asked questions about NK, in my first post to the thread a few minutes ago, but I also like cake chat and that’s fine too.

TWETMIRF · 11/07/2023 16:19

Rebellious if it helps, I am delighted that homophobic Nancy has gone.

I couldn’t agree more.

I just clicked on the thread, saw there were four new pages since this morning, got ready to read an interesting discussion and instead got four pages of derail.

It’s happened on other threads too.

I could understand it with an In Bad Faith OP thread, but this thread isn’t in that category.

There's nearly 800 posts left. There's is nothing going on with her leaving that is being reported. If something happens we switch back to that.

On the off chance nothing happens in the time it takes to fill the 800 posts I believe the way mumsnet works is we can start any number of threads on a subject so we just start thread 2.

I've been for a search I can't see anything new about her. You'd think if she was leaving with a new job sorted she's be shouting it from the rooftops.

And she's never going to apologise.

Minus all the potential contributors to a discussion about Stonewall’s next steps in its campaign, who won’t be posting, because they’ve clicked on “unwatch thread” due to pages upon pages of derail.

Boiledbeetle · 11/07/2023 16:24

And also... If we leave this thread to sit here all lonely waiting for news by the time that happens this thread could have slipped down the page of into the next page so someone then starts a new thread and then people whinge because now there's two open threads about the same thing.

IcakethereforeIam · 11/07/2023 16:24

I've not been to Cornwall in years but I've never forgotten doing the splits 😳

I can't see her being enobled, she's achieved fuck all so far as I can see. Unless sowing division and confusion counts as an achievement. She's not left Stonewall better than she found it. She might get one of the lesser awards, like a participation trophy. If she's replaced with a transperson, i can't see that going down well.

Chersfrozenface · 11/07/2023 16:26

@Slothtoes and anyone else interested, recipe here
https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/food_and_recipes/4846855-cake-recipes-and-opinions

I may well be opining on cake and posting patisserie porn over there, too.
