'Do you currently live in the gender you were given at birth?'

Saw an interesting vacancy with a big city council so had a nose at the application form.

A very muddled EDI section led to this word salad of an attempt to establish who might be doing the applying. The drop down options are completely baffling. Surely there has to be an easier way? It's put me right off.

If I can live in a gender could it be one in very good condition as I'm fed up with renovating my standard non gendered housing?

Saying all of the post above would be a great response on the phone - guessing the fields on internet forms wouldn't allow enough characters for my real response though.

Send an email to the help desk asking before you finish off the form. Or call and ask.

AlisonDonut · 08/07/2023 10:10

We don't have this bullshit in France, it just says 'gender' which is allowable here where everything has a goddam gender!

No sorry, those are reserved for people with cocks cos they're the important ones.

😂😂😂😂

What are the mortgages like, because I live in a flat and it’s getting pretty dear. I could live in a gender. Do haircut restrictions apply

Gateappreciation · 08/07/2023 08:59

i’m wearing blue but also a bra - so which gender ‘am I living in’

Is your bra a slightly saggy beige one, designed to stop your knockers hitting your knees? Or is it all red lace and gender euphoria?

Beige: person with vagina
Red lace: woman, all the way.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 08/07/2023 10:16

Regardless of ideology, this is surely just a crap question all round

In my very first job (Civil Service) I had a manager who told us not to use departmental jargon to the people we interviewed and talked to, because they wouldn't have a clue what we were on about and we'd confuse them. This question is an example of exactly what she meant - written by someone who (presumably) knows what THEY mean by this but hasn't bothered to consider how it's going to be read by someone coming to this from outside. One reason why when you're writing something like this that you hand it to a colleague or a friend and say 'if you were faced with this what would you think and how would you complete it? does it make sense?'

howdoesatoastermaketoast · 08/07/2023 10:33

Is it wrong that I'd want to put 'no' and then ask that I'm still working through trying to understand which gender identity fits me best.

My current (private) short list: agender, nb, cat, gendernull, & neutrois, although sometimes I do some girly things and sometimes I like boy things so maybe I'm genderfluid which is apparently its own innate and immutable gender identity. It is quite hard to understand the difference between them so it is quite hard to figure out which one might be my 'real' gender. Nevertheless it is certainly true that none of which I was assigned or indeed given at birth.

I also feel like you'd get a free pass on the whole pronouns things if people thought you were trans.

Littlesprouts · 08/07/2023 10:35

WeWereInParis · 08/07/2023 09:39

I don't even know what the answers mean for trans people, and what the council would take from each answer.

"No - female" is that what a transman would tick? Or a transwoman? Because, to use the council's language (not mine!), the transman was "assigned female at birth" but presumably the transwoman views themselves as female now. Which answer would a transwoman or transman tick? Regardless of ideology, this is surely just a crap question all round.

Exactly! And even if it applied to me I certainly wouldn't want to out myself as eg intersex in such a blunt manner, so what do they really expect?

Unless of course you'd be guaranteed an interview by ticking one of the right boxes? Surely no one would take advantage of that.

Even when their cocks are removed they still retain their cock privilege. So much cake and eating it.

The term intersex is as offensive as cis imo btw. How fucking rude.

Seamsthesame · 08/07/2023 11:11

On the HCPC EDI form I had to complete recently when I reregistered, the questions where clearer.

What was your sex identified at birth?

Then,
What is your gender indentity now (paraphrased)?
I just choose 'other' which gave me free space to write in, so I put 'I don't believe in the concept of gender identity'.

I'm hoping that there are a good number of other HCP writing similar, otherwise we're all screwed!!

I live in a house

Yebbut, is it the same house you used to have, or have you moved on?
Have you redecorated your house, or done any extensive alterations to the frontage? Do you use the front door or the back door?

Have you changed its name?

Also rude to ignore the repeated requests from those with a rare medical condition (and the not-so-rare, none-too-medical state of being a woman) NOT to include us in their relentless identity politicking.

Odd how those demanding respect for their own sacred identities are so incapable of reciprocating that courtesy to others. Including taking the further liberty of branding those who object to their labelling as 'transphobic'.

'Intersex' is so wrong, inaccurate, ignorant and bloody offensive on every conceivable level that it's difficult to know where to start.

pinklama · 08/07/2023 13:13

I do live in the female gender but not as my mother had hoped. I don't wear frilly shirts, high heels, lots of make up and giggle a lot.

Funny how you never see trans women in jeans, t-shirts and no make up.

And massively offensive to keep dragging women of colour into it as if they had some kind of commonality with TIMs - do they think WOC aren't actually women on some level?? It's the only conclusion I can come to after years of this false comparison stuff.

Zebracat · 08/07/2023 14:40

My 65 year old exdp was asked if he could be pregnant at a scan to determine the extent of his prostate cancer. To be fair, it made him laugh at a scary time, so not all bad., but really?

shebathequeenof · 08/07/2023 15:47

The question should be 'are you normal or do you want to walk about the office in a desss with a stiffy?'

IknowYouButIdontLikeYou · 08/07/2023 15:49

😂😂😂Typical council bollocks

I once applied for a job at the local council (years ago before all this shite). Pages and pages of equality and diversity targets and demonstrating how you'd be committed to them and demonstrate that.

Last page - oh, can you show us how you'd actually do the job?

Yirk · 08/07/2023 16:07

I live in the biological human female sex I was born in...not genders!!

swallowedAfly · 08/07/2023 17:54

Will we be required to lavish you with mandatory yasslighting out of fear of you going to HR and trying to get us fired?

WickedSerious · 08/07/2023 19:58

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 08/07/2023 08:29

Never mind a 'don't know' option, that needs a 'what the hell are you on about?' option.

I'd put my tick in a 'Don't talk wet' box.

Or as they say on the Specsavers ad 'Oh, behave.'
