So I can’t believe this is real but it seems to be.
What do we make of Jo’s cervical trust a cancer charity who has an LGBT inclusive language page on their website suggesting another word for a vagina is a bonus
hole!!

Absolutely awful.

*But it may be very helpful if you're dealing with a woman who has transitioned and who has cancer.

Using a sick and vulnerable trans man (woman) to make a point and by doing so upsetting them would be a rather low point if you were a cancer nurse.*

No one should be cruel to a transman going through cancer. But, that doesn't change the fact that this language is infantilizing. Like when adults with developmental disabilities are spoken to using baby talk or childish wording. I.e. "Do you need to pee pee?"

Comeonbarbiebrianharvey · 29/06/2023 23:25

Oh just fucking call people that have transitioned their gender transgender. Instead of deleting women and their anatomies from the dictionary.

Bonus hole 🤮

Are any trans people actually promoting this or is it PC to the extreme? With the ill considered consequence of deleting a whole gender.

Delphinium20 · 29/06/2023 23:27

Also, front hole and bonus hole are confusing. A medical professional needs to be clear. Is this the urethra, vagina or rectum? Or possibly a colonoscopy bag? An open wound? Ear canal?

I can't stand the phrase "bonus hole".

That doesn't mean I lack the ability to understand that it might be helpful for a very small number of women though.

Flickersy · 29/06/2023 23:22

Then let them crack on with using funbags if that makes them more comfortable.

As I've said, what matters is the patients comfort.

I'm almost impressed at the sidestepping.

Comeonbarbiebrianharvey · 29/06/2023 23:31

How will they get round saying cervix if it's cervical cancer??

Is a transman with cervical cancer really going to give a shit? Or just want to be treated for their cancer.

TooOldForThisNonsense · 29/06/2023 23:34

Gross

Moonandstarzz · 29/06/2023 23:35

Flickersy · 29/06/2023 23:13

Because trans men are considerably less likely to have breasts, for a start...

@Flickersy can you explain how they are less likely to have breasts but have a cervix & vagina?

Nomorenonbinary · 29/06/2023 23:36

Moonandstarzz · 29/06/2023 23:35

@Flickersy can you explain how they are less likely to have breasts but have a cervix & vagina?

Because far more trans men have top surgery than bottom surgery.

Top surgery...

Flickersy · 29/06/2023 23:37

Top surgery...

@Flickersy & @Nomorenonbinary thanks

FrankieStar · 29/06/2023 23:43

This is utterly ridiculous. So at a consultation with a patient who wants to use the term "bonus hole", the medical professionals are to explain medical procedures, surgeries, treatments and instead of using anatomically correct termonology say "bonus hole"? Cringe.

It's so crude, and the context here for me is so, so important. We're talking about a a charity which has been set up to inform and support women about a part of the female anatomy which may well be what contains a disease which is the cause of their death, or severely limit their life... And it's apparently a 'bonus hole'? 'Hole' is bad enough on its own, but adding the word 'bonus' just feels like a really sick joke in this context.

What if I want my vagina being referrred to as my Lady Derrick when I next go for my cervical screening? Should they do that also? And refer to my cervix as..
I DUNNO, Jagermeister?

Also, I'm a cat.

OrbandSpectacle · 29/06/2023 23:47

Flickersy's style of writing reminds me of another poster on these boards with a similar username, also beginning with F who also enjoys taking a contrary stance.

Moonandstarzz · 29/06/2023 23:49

@FrankieStar well if you are more comfortable with your vagina being called Lady Derrick the medical professionals dare not insult you.
Can't be one rule for one... That would be double standards!
And if your cervix identifies as Jagermeister who are they to disagree!

3AndStopping · 29/06/2023 23:49

So nice to see women calling this bull shit out. Keep it up 👏🏻 Our voices matter!

Maybe being brought back to reality will stop them from doing further harm to themselves from needless surgery

Moonandstarzz · 29/06/2023 23:52

@3AndStopping everything needs to be called out, nó matter how small or insignificant it seems. It's significant to the survival of women.
This fucking bonus hole is a huge deal though... Why so crude.. is that the what they think will appeal to "men"?

3AndStopping · 29/06/2023 23:56

I don’t know where they come up with it @Moonandstarzz but it’s just disrespectful and vulgar. Seen the poor OP’s thread tonight about being genuinely worried she’s going to be sacked tomorrow because her trans colleague decided to come into the women’s toilets and ask for a tampon and she ASKED WHY THEY NEEDED IT. Worlds going mad.

Moonandstarzz · 30/06/2023 00:00

I missed that thread I'll have a look now & give the poor woman some support. Like wtf, perfectly reasonable question & now fearing for her job.
The abuse and eradication us woman are facing & we cannot agrue back, there's no debate. It's frightening. I think the pushback is starting but we need to fight like hell & highlighting every single thing like this is empowering & sharing reaches far & wide.
We'll get there.

therescoffeeinthatnebula · 30/06/2023 00:02

I'm generally quite supportive of inclusive language (I don't mind cis- for example), but this makes me feel... icky.

I can't quite put my finger on why. I think it's because it suggests that our vaginas are some kind of... reward for men.

I don't like this. I don't like it at all.

FrankieStar · 30/06/2023 00:06

Moonandstarzz · 29/06/2023 23:49

Maybe we all need to make a stand - forget the words vagina, and cervix, and breasts, and every other anatomically correct word for our body parts, and demand they are called what we decide they are called.

Obviously I'm being flippant, but as you say, there can't be one rule for one and not the others. It's such a farce, and I do feel for the doctors and nurses having to navigate their way through this, I don't believe they've all been captured by the cult. I think they have a hard enough time doing their jobs as it is, without all this madness being pilled on top.

I can see it now, the oncologist having their career shattered into pieces by a patient for saying 'vagina' and not 'bonus hole'. It seems utterly ridiculous to type that, but really it could happen. That's quite frightening.

SkiingIsHeaven · 30/06/2023 00:09

This has got to be a joke. Although I can't work out who would think it was funny.

Moonandstarzz · 30/06/2023 00:12

@FrankieStar nope, it can't be one rule for one woman but something different for others.

If this is what it's coming to can they not have a completely different section for trans men or their own.

My ds was learning about anatomy in school & where babies come from. All was perfectly fine. His teacher emailed the information to parents & said I'll be using correct terminology penis & vagina.
So my 9 year old is using vagina to refer to an essential part of a woman's an anatomy but an medical professionals & adults are using bonus hole?
This is so regressive it's frightening.

FrankieStar · 30/06/2023 00:15

I think you hit the nail on the head.

And also the fact that cervical cancer kills... Women. It only kills women. But that's not as important as a mans needs to ejaculate into a hole, is it, apparently... Because if it was less important at a time of life and death for a woman, the words 'bonus hole' wouldn't be anywhere near literature or coming out of the mouths of any person, in this context.

Folk can call their vaginas what they like in private, but charitable organisations and medical organisations and when we're talking about cervical cancer particularly... My God. No, it's wholly inappropriate.

SmirnoffIceIsNice · 29/06/2023 22:09

How ironic that they bleat about how important it is to use the correct language about someone's gender, and then use vile, made up terms to refer to a woman's anatomy.

Agree.
