They were clearly talking about a girl who identifies as a cat. And the girls said afterwards that the whole conversation with the teacher (telling off) started because they said in class that it was crazy to identify as a cat and the teacher told them off for upsetting the girl who identifies as a cat.

Clearly the school are not going to admit this. I know who I believe.

I don't see how anyone can read that and not understand that the issue was about a child being challenged about identifying as a cat.

There was also the NHS hospital where a woman was raped and the hospital denied that it happened because "only women" were on that ward. Turns out a rapist who "identified" as a woman was on that ward. They tried to cover it up too.

Hopefully this spurs up lots of activism in our tweens & teens. And it teaches them adults aren't always right & call them out on their complete battshittery every chance they get!

I am wondering if this could be a positive thing. If one child's identification as a cat, dinosaur or badger is treated with exactly the same level of respect as another child identifying as a girl when they are clearly actually a boy (or vice versa) then doesn't that helpfully make it easier to clarify the difference between respecting someone's beliefs (good) vs actually believing their fantasy (not good).

We have been able to cope (mostly) with all kinds of mutually-contradictory religious beliefs being respected and not ridiculed, space made for the expressions of those beliefs but no requirement for any of the rest of us to actually believe it. That has been successful for decades. Believe that one is a different species or sex than the body one was born in belongs in the same category.

Respect doesn't cost anything. Capitulation costs everyone everything.

I agree with @fedgehund on this one. There needs to be a follow up & consequences for the teacher involved. What she was teaching those children simply isn't true. Then she told the child her opinion is wrong. Surely every teacher knows every child is entitled to an opinion. It's the very basis of debate.
