Will this boys name become known when he hits 18? He must have had some heavyweights representing him to get this diversion of prosecution. Is he linked to a Scottish League football team? Or does the organisation that manages these football scholarships to the US have the money to pay for such representation?Because if he had had any criminal activity on his record he surely wouldn’t have been able to get a visa for an extended stay in the US.
I imagine he is well known, even feted, in Ayr for winning this scholarship. His name may not be being released but there are many mothers and fathers of daughters in Ayr who realise that this boy has been given a free pass because he’s good at football. What kind of signal is that sending out?
And was this scholarship in existence before the alleged rape took place or hastily arranged to tug on the heart strings once they saw that a prosecution for rape was on the horizon? Because what kind of society would stand between a man and his football?
If I were this boy’s parents I don’t know how I could live with myself. Unless you were utterly convinced that the girl was lying or couldn’t entertain that your son would do such a thing. Or, could believe it but choose not to condemn it.
