That’s awful. It’s all in the rape-culture ‘you can’t let one mistake ruin this promising young man’s life’ playbook, isn’t it?

Rape, sexual assault and violent offences quite obviously should not be eligible for ‘diversion of prosecution’.

IcakethereforeIam · 25/06/2023 09:06

That's appalling!

ArabeIIaScott · 25/06/2023 09:34

What the FUCK

ArabeIIaScott · 25/06/2023 09:35

What we can do? I don't know, set fire to something? Break windows? Strike?

Fuck this fucking nonsense. Are our daughters safe? Should women just stay indoors forever?

donquixotedelamancha · 25/06/2023 10:04

I don't have any words for this. It's horrific.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 25/06/2023 10:16

well this guy's gonna rape more women isn't he? he's been comprehensively educated by the scottish state that that's fine

<screams into pillow>

risefromyourgrave · 25/06/2023 10:23

Well off he goes to the US to rape some female college attendees. And as he’s there on a sports scholarship I expect he will have plenty of people in authority to help cover up for him.

Neverinamonthofsundays · 25/06/2023 10:28

So he goes off skipping merrily to America to start a lovely new life and she gets to be punished with memories for the rest of her life because he raped her.

Unbefuckinglievable.

ArabeIIaScott · 25/06/2023 12:23

Okay. What can we do. Write to MPs? I see some have already commented.

Dianbeatthis · 25/06/2023 13:42

God forbid anything as ‘insignificant’ as a rape get in the way of the Scottish male and his love of football. How to send a signal to the rest of Scottish male youth that the minor indiscretion of rape is any obstacle to a glorious football career. I’m fucking incensed by this. This boy should have been punished - who asked and argued for this ‘diversion’ and who listened and agreed? And what can we do about it?!

YesYesAllGood · 25/06/2023 13:49

Is this ANOTHER one?? Confused

GoatsareGOAT · 25/06/2023 13:51

WTAF 😡

Burn it all down, we need to start again. The SNP's constant desire to protect & coddle violent men is beyond my understanding

Here's info on this 'diversion from prosecution'

https://www.gov.scot/publications/joint-review-diversion-prosecution/pages/5/

'. Diversion from prosecution is one of several alternatives to prosecution available to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) upon receipt from the police of a report of alleged offending. Diversion is the process by which COPFS refers an accused person to local authority justice social work (or a partner agency) for support, treatment or other action as a means of addressing the underlying causes of the alleged offending and preventing further offending. Diversion from prosecution will be considered in any case where the person reported to COPFS has an identifiable need that has contributed to the offending and where it is assessed there is a sufficiency of evidence and that diversion is the most appropriate outcome in the public interest. Diversion in context2. Diversion from prosecution is one of a range of community justice interventions available to address the underlying causes of offending and to prevent reoffending.'

Diversion from prosecution: joint review

A joint review of diversion from prosecution carried out by HM Inspectorate of Prosecution in Scotland, HM Inspectorate of Constabulary in Scotland, HM Inspectorate of Prisons for Scotland and the Care Inspectorate

https://www.gov.scot/publications/joint-review-diversion-prosecution/pages/5

ArabeIIaScott · 25/06/2023 14:21
  • 'The five most common charges were: offences relating to drugs (25%)
  • breach of the peace etc (23%)
  • common assault (19%)
  • shoplifting (8%)
  • dangerous and careless driving (7%).
22. Accused persons can be diverted in respect of serious offences, such as sexual crime, although this tends to be rare. In such cases, the accused person tends to be under the age of 18. Over the period from 2016-17 to the first half of 2021-22, only 1% of single charge cases initially marked for diversion involved a sexual offence.'
JamSandle · 25/06/2023 14:22

Never mind that the woman's life will be ruined. We just can't ruin HIS. eye roll

Dianbeatthis · 25/06/2023 14:24

Will this boys name become known when he hits 18? He must have had some heavyweights representing him to get this diversion of prosecution. Is he linked to a Scottish League football team? Or does the organisation that manages these football scholarships to the US have the money to pay for such representation?Because if he had had any criminal activity on his record he surely wouldn’t have been able to get a visa for an extended stay in the US.

I imagine he is well known, even feted, in Ayr for winning this scholarship. His name may not be being released but there are many mothers and fathers of daughters in Ayr who realise that this boy has been given a free pass because he’s good at football. What kind of signal is that sending out?

And was this scholarship in existence before the alleged rape took place or hastily arranged to tug on the heart strings once they saw that a prosecution for rape was on the horizon? Because what kind of society would stand between a man and his football?

If I were this boy’s parents I don’t know how I could live with myself. Unless you were utterly convinced that the girl was lying or couldn’t entertain that your son would do such a thing. Or, could believe it but choose not to condemn it.

ArabeIIaScott · 25/06/2023 14:31

Well, put it this way, football scholarships to the US are not common.

EdithStourton · 25/06/2023 14:40

That's utterly shocking

DemonicCaveMaggot · 25/06/2023 14:43

Apparently rape of girls and women is considered a 'low level' offence in Scotland. How is that possible?

It seems that Scotland is working very hard to ensure that women know their place.

That would seem to be the case; it's bloody insanity. I can see the case for giving young offenders lower sentences, as they are immature and impulsive, but a total let off, with no prison in this and the other quoted case is despicable.

I can see that it's likely to lead to vigilanteism.

Hoardasurass · 25/06/2023 15:07

The thing is this is just the icing on the cake so to speak. We have a vawg strategy that includes all males under 18 and any over 18 who identify as women or nb. A rape conviction strategy that will destroy the legal system by removing jury trials for rape cases (because the low convention rate is due to juries only🤨), and the kicker is the prerequisite for corroboration so you need witnesses, an admittion or 2+ victims to prove a pattern of behaviour as in the Adam Graham /Isla Brison case.
The snp have made it open season on women and girls

I’m at a complete loss for words.

His family must have a lot of connections to have this pulled off.

How far away is his 18th, I’d be plastering his name everywhere.
