Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Life was so much more fun in the 70s when beardie would have been picketing the US Embassy in London and hauled away by security and police.

Today? Spraying paint over snooker tables and invading women's changing rooms is the nihilistic update.

ScrollingLeaves · 03/06/2023 19:19

Non-Binary is not even in the Equality Act.

It is neither the protected characteristic of Sex, or the protected characteristic of Gender Reassignment.

Even if he could say he had Gender Reassignment as a transwoman, the exceptions in the Equality Act allow a women’s changing room to be for women (biological sex).

I actually should have said "spraying piss all over a public building entrance", but I can't believe in reality I could ever have come to write that.

So, snooker tables it is, lol.

I don't understand why someone like this doesn't just use a little basic human consideration. It doesn't take Einstein to work out that if you have a beard and look obviously male, women in a state of undress in a changing room are going to feel threatened. Why do the non-binary person's wishes automatically trump theirs?

Because they are the main character in their story and everyone else is there to function as a supporting cast whose feelings only count if they serve to enrich the main characters story

aweegc · 03/06/2023 19:54

It's funny how non-binary people seem keen to point out that they're not trans they're better different, until they feel the need to claim discrimination, when they make accusations of transphobia.

FrancescaContini · 03/06/2023 21:17

“I am non binary, I am not a man” said the man with a man’s beard (presumably in a man’s deep voice) demanding to go into the WOMEN’S changing room.

Well done to the Zara shop assistant!

Poor little Giorgio, being “dehumanised” - he should maybe watch the world news every so often to understand the meaning of this word.

Quite. I guess nobody can actually define legally what the heck it means.

borntobequiet · 03/06/2023 21:29

I like that this bit:

She said the changing room assistant "rolled her eyes" when they came out.

AspiringChatBot · 03/06/2023 21:48

Logic detected: nil.

The changing room was for WOMEN, not for NON-MEN. (If you want the closest NON-MEN changing rooms, go to Scotland and search up Patrick Harvie's sleeve, probably). But if the only choices for changing rooms are "women" and "men" - which are the only sexes for which provision is legally required in the UK - where do you suppose a male nonbinary person should most reasonably and equitably go?

Plus the sheer regressive right-ring 1950s-ness of assuming one must use the women's changing rooms because one is trying on "gowns". Grin

What an utter tosser. Yes every youth generation has had their insufferable fad, I was as black clad and pretentious as you like, but these wankers are just so entirely unlikeable. Forever claiming victim status when the world won't play along with their fantasies.

RubyTrees · 04/06/2023 19:20

What an utter tosser.

Yep - a man who not only felt fully entitled to enter a women-only space but who thought it was a great idea to publicise it as well.

OP posts:

Selfiish, entitled, illogical, whiny little shit.

SinnerBoy · 05/06/2023 08:40

I may be wrong here, but I've concluded that I understand what non binary means:

A male, insistent on using the women's facilities.

Well, that's how it seems to me.

I think that the post above yours by @ATerrorofLeftovers is the best definition.

This. I've never seen anything to convince me that it's not just narcissism.

Tallisker · 05/06/2023 17:05

Didn't know Zara sold 'gowns'.

Indeed.

What's the betting this person also refers to particular undergarments as 'panties'.

Probably tries those on too at M&S 🤮

Iafontaine · 05/06/2023 21:58

As the manager apologised, it made the press etc. I hope the wise eye rolling shop assistant has kept her job.

ScrollingLeaves · 05/06/2023 22:45

On another thread someone has posted an Australian site where women are able to submit their experiences of the negative effects of transgender laws, activism etc.
One woman had to return a ‘gown’ when she realised it was covered in semen. The shop assistant said it happens quite often but there is nothing they can do.

NotBasically · 06/06/2023 06:39

Wouldn't it be easier if all shops had Women's and Neutral changing rooms? Problem solved.

You'd still have the types who would claim they aren't gender neutral but actual women and who would demand to use the Women's changing rooms.

This particular enby might use the gender neutral room, who knows.

Shops also don't want to lose selling floorspace.

FrancescaContini · 06/06/2023 10:30

Don’t forget to add changing rooms for those who claim to be: gender blank / agender / pangender / insert meaningless label here. They’re also very very special people and need their own spaces.

Precisely. We all know for the vast majority of these people third spaces are not the end game.
Access to women’s spaces is.
