The new British Cycling policy goes public at 11am tomorrow. Anyone dare to speculate on the outcome? Will it be a win for women?

How long until they delete this poll?

Ha ha! Excellent.

Excellent coverage on World at One.

Did anyone else notice how they finished the headline about the cycling story with Emily's words "violent act" then immediately moved onto the latest actual violent atrocities in Ukraine?

I'd like to think a programmer did that deliberately.

I suppose, given the BBC's lamentable history on this subject, that it was deliberate and that the editor wanted to link actual, real violence in listeners' minds with the words "violent act" in Bridges' rant.

If so, I'm not sure it would work.

I'm very happy that women's interests and rights are being recognised. For too long we have been told that our interests just don't count. It's clear that the only reason Bridges wants to compete in the female category is becasue they got injured a few years ago, so can't keep up with the men, and for validation (it rubber stamps Bridge's womanlyness). But women's sports is not just for failing or mediocre males, and its purpose is not to validate identities and feelings. This really is a vindication of the whole argument that 'gender' and 'sex' are separate and different. Bridges can have a feminine gender as much as they desire, but this doesn't change Bridge's sex.

WallaceinAnderland · 26/05/2023 13:32

I predict EB will 'retire' soon and then quietly detransition. After all, what's the point if there are no podiums to mount.

www.gbnews.com/news/trans-cyclist-to-face-off-against-olympic-winner-after-being-granted-permission-to-compete-against-women/260115

In February last year, Bridges was part of a men's university winning cycling team. In March, Bridges was due to compete against Laura Kenny. There was a massive hoo-hah and the international body for cycling said Bridges was ineligible.

I do wonder how many of these trans athletes genuinely want to transition or whether they just want to be the best at any cost. Is that a mad thought? It just seems like there are so many trans athletes/sportspeople winning/making record times.

Funnily enough it is never Rarely the male athletes at the absolute top of their game who need to want to transition. Seems to only be the ones whose recorded times put them well down the pecking order in male rankings but somehow puts them pretty high up in womens rankings.

I do wish someone would do a scientific study into why this extraordinary phenomenon exists, there must be a reason.

Fantastic news! Grassroots next. Female and open at every level.

Finally, some common sense!

Womens sports should be for biological women only. A win for science and logic, hurray!

Yeah but they've forced TW into non-competitive sports despite their having nothing more in common with me than any other male. Getting there though.

Blackandwhitehorse · 26/05/2023 13:33

This is good news and the reporting is getting more accurate too. However if you have time complain to the bbc about use of assigned sex at birth. I think it’s worthwhile as they do seem to be updating how they report on this topic.

Emily Bridges having a proper tantrum. It’s a “violent act” apparently 🙄

Boo hoo - 'violent act'. Tell that to the over 200 women a year killed in the UK by their partner or ex-partner. Fucken numbnut.

Which accident was this?

I'd thought it was the one in the delivery suite, when the midwife accidentally glued a penis on her, this condemning her to a lifetime of mediocre male performance, rather than her true destiny of being the Fastest Lady Record Smasher of all Time Ever Since Ever Began.

The preceding posts have, however, clarified that them fell off they's bike a couple of times. I'm always happy to have facts clarified for me.

nauticant · 26/05/2023 13:34

Since Jonny Dymond on Radio 4 emphasised the genocide type language from Bridges more than once, my assumption is that he's either peaked before or this story has opened his eyes about the weaponised victimhood and he was pretty unimpressed.

GeriKellmansUpdo · 26/05/2023 13:35

Can someone please explain what "transgender men who have not yet had hormone therapy" means? I don't know very much about this. How are they identified?

Mochudubh · 26/05/2023 13:35

Good grief.

I got as far as "doesn't fit their entitled and narrow world view".

The irony meter needs to go higher than eleven for that one.🙄

I always appreciate your posts @SinnerBoy but I particularly enjoyed this one 😅😅

Is "hate crimed" a verb now?

loislovesstewie · 26/05/2023 13:38

I've just read the article on Pinknews and voted appropriately.

IcakethereforeIam · 26/05/2023 13:38

So unbalanced, no wonder they kept falling off their bike.

WallaceinAnderland · 26/05/2023 13:40

Just over a year ago, EB said, "I am an athlete and I just want to race competitively again."

So what's the problem Emily?

Fairness returns.

nauticant · 26/05/2023 13:42

Depending on who made that statement, they're either referring to male people or female people @GeriKellmansUpdo.

"not yet had hormone therapy"" means for children either puberty blockers or cross-sex hormones and for adults it means cross-sex hormones. Those are testosterone for females and estrogen for men. The long term medical consequences of drugs administered in this way are very poorly understood.

The only way to identify a trans person to be told that they're trans, either by them or someone else they've told. It's the only identification that counts, forget about appearance, drug consumption, body type, body modifications etc.

WallaceinAnderland · 26/05/2023 13:42

GeriKellmansUpdo · 26/05/2023 13:35

Transgender men are people who were born female.

Not yet had hormone therapy means they just say the magic words 'I am a man' and everyone has to believe them.

So, yeah. They're women.
