The new British Cycling policy goes public at 11am tomorrow. Anyone dare to speculate on the outcome? Will it be a win for women?

The voiceover of Bridge's statement on Radio 4 is being done by a woman.

Keeperofsecrets · 26/05/2023 13:14

Ah, Emily - welcome to the world of womanhood! Being told what you can or cannot do must be a new experience for you. Not quite what you expected, is it? As my granny used to say, ‘I want, doesn’t get.’

Will transmen be allowed to compete in the women's category?

I’m guessing trans men who are unmediated are allowed in the female category but those taking testosterone probably contravene doping limits.

FGS.

She's not reading out that whole unhinged rant surely?

Have voted. A lot of happy people out there!

Looks like Pink News’ readership is mainly TERFs 😂

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 26/05/2023 13:15

Common sense prevails, thank goodness.
Emily's statement really is something else!

Toseland · 26/05/2023 13:16

Just came to say this about radio 4
The voiceover of Bridge's statement on Radio 4 is being done by a woman. !!!
Let's hear the other side of the story then....

The BBC coverage completely glosses over Bridges' crash in 2019 which completely fucked his burgeoning pro cycling career. In 2020, Bridges announced he was transitioning

Which accident was this?

nilsmousehammer · 26/05/2023 13:16

I am finding it quite entertaining that when women point out that TW in their spaces make those spaces 'mixed sex' they are told they are being unreasonable and prejudiced and wrong.

However there seems to be an unwillingness to reciprocally buy into the 'open' category as being a mixed sex one as opposed to a mens one.

It's odd how sauce for the goose is never sauce for the gander. And how women are expected to suck up and take what is wholly unacceptable to TW.

BurntOutGirl · 26/05/2023 13:17

I wonder how many TW athlete's will now decide they were "confused" and will "un-trans"....

KohlaParasaurus · 26/05/2023 13:19

This is rather unexpected good news. And a certain strapping lantern-jawed young person is looking like the embodiment of male entitlement.

I would like to see Breeze rides etc. being genuinely women-only. As a pp has noted, one male, however nice they are and however they identify, can completely change the dynamic of a group. But competitive cycling had to be a priority.

DarkDayforMN · 26/05/2023 13:20

>"Telling trans women they can still compete in the “Open” category, but actually, it’s the Mens event rebranded"

Lol. The men’s event rebranded seems like the right event for _ rebranded.

nauticant · 26/05/2023 13:20

The 10+ minutes that have been devoted to this on Radio 4's The World at One have provided fantastic amounts of sunlight.

First time ever I've had to wear sunglasses to listen to the radio.

haha...indeed. oh the irony! 👏

Get used to it Emily!

BonfireLady · 26/05/2023 13:22

Great news!
It sounds like there is still some room for improvement (the women's only - but also trans women - Breeze programme that has been mentioned), but competitive British cycling has taken a huge step forward.

It'll be interesting to see what happens on the world stage now. Our British teams will be at a disadvantage to the rest of the world, which will certainly force the conversation.

The ranting about genocide etc on Twitter is sad to see. However, it's helpful to highlight the complete misuse of the word loudly and clearly.
Good to hear it was mentioned on the Radio 4 piece too.

Coffeeandcards · 26/05/2023 13:22

This is such great news.

Female and Open. That’s surely the way forward across the board. Everyone can still compete fairly then.

ArcaneWireless · 26/05/2023 13:23

Grand.

Now for every other sport to follow suit please.

A violent act though EB? No poppet.

I concede it is a bit shit for thee.

Not as shit as it was for women to train all their puff to find that they were not in a fair competition though.

I’m guessing that there is nothing stopping EB competing with those with a biological similarity.

Problem solved. 👍🏼

NotHavingIt · 26/05/2023 13:23

That Emily Bridges is one very entitled person. The utter narcissism of it.
They'll have de-transitioned in a few years, I reckon, once the plaudits stop.

viques · 26/05/2023 13:24

JudgeJ · 26/05/2023 12:47

A Bingo statement, ticks many many boxes, whoever this person is. Is one allowed to used the word person these days?

@JudgeJ
ah the EB story.

Prior to transition .EB was an up and coming young cyclist, picked for elite training, funding, advice etc by British Cycling as they were seen as a hot shot for gold in the paris Olympics riding in the mens category. EB has stated in the past that they always felt they were trans but that they were quite prepared to delay transition until after Paris to fulfil their ambition. A series of accidents meant that EBs times and international ranking fell below the required level for the mens elite racing squad and they were dropped. However, EBs times qualified them as a contender for a place in the womens elite racing squad so EB brought forward their transition. I can’t quite remember if EB actually accepted the place, but bearing in mind that only ten places exist, EB accepting a place would remove a woman from the squad, a woman whose dreams of inclusion in the Olympic squad, and a possible medal would of course be every bit as valid as EBs , and who would have worked just as hard and trained as relentlessly as EB.

So supported by a very vocal mother EB has been pushing for the right to race in womens races and to this end has grown their hair into pigtails , done soft focus publicity shoots and tried to avoid being photographed standing next to female cyclists because it’s hard to hide when you have been through male puberty and are 6 foot 2.

AlisonDonut · 26/05/2023 13:25

How long until they delete this poll?

New British Cycling trans policy
NotHavingIt · 26/05/2023 13:25

Ther BBC article says the female event will only be for females "assigned" so at birth - which is inaccurate. What it also fails to mention is that any born female who has taken testosterone will not be able to compete in the female event - as testosterone is a banned substance.

GrabbyGabby · 26/05/2023 13:26

SinnerBoy · 26/05/2023 12:44

I was wondering who the grubby, sycophantic lickspittle Sandy was and now see she's Em's mammy. That certainly explains the overblown hyperbollocks she's managed to spew.

Downright falsehoods, not least on pretending that there's no scientific evidence to show that transw have an unsupportable advantage over women.

And then Em's magnificently deluded, deranged rant, which them has said will be cherry picked by journalists. Well, it's not so much a bunch of cherries as a brontosaurus sized turd of overblown, counter-evidential phlegm.

Every single thing them wrote there is false, not least the Nazi British Government telling them to ensure that men are no longer allowed to compete in events for women.

They is despicable, with them's emotive dissembling, regarding genocides and driving they to them's early grave.

Them will simply have to go back to cycling in they's correct sex class and suck up being 500th again, instead of maintaing the entirely unfair fiction that them is the bestest, fastest woman of all time.

Perhaps Em can go for a triathlon? They have probably wept enough false, performative tears to fill a hole for the swimming event.

Anyway, congratulations for women athletes, who train bloody hard to make it to the top. A well deserved level field exists for you again, after this slightly unexpected outbreak of common sense.

I mean the Nazis were cheating bastards, just look at the footage of the 1936 Olympics. But even they didnt field men to beat the women.

FourChimneys · 26/05/2023 13:26

Excellent coverage on World at One.

Did anyone else notice how they finished the headline about the cycling story with Emily's words "violent act" then immediately moved onto the latest actual violent atrocities in Ukraine?

I'd like to think a programmer did that deliberately.

Clymene · 26/05/2023 13:27

@Cailin66 - Bridges had a couple of crashes, one of which resulted in a broken ankle. Bridges was dropped from the adult men's team as they felt Bridges did not have the potential. To be fair, I'm not entirely clear of the order of these events.

But it was after being dropped from the men's cycling team that Bridges announced their transition. Even after changing their name, bridges was still competing in their university men's team

Leafstamp · 26/05/2023 13:28

I'm in favour of ditching the 'been through male puberty' type language.
