The new British Cycling policy goes public at 11am tomorrow. Anyone dare to speculate on the outcome? Will it be a win for women?

Off topic, but I tried to follow the link upthread to the PinkNews article and my browser blocked it as an unsafe page 😂 I didn't know BT Broadband had a bullsh*t detector!

Come to think of it I'm pretty sure that one time I tried to access Mermaids site it was blocked under my parental control settings. I like to think the nice folk at BT are Terfy!

I do not feel any sympathy for Bridges. Bridges is a grown adult and as such should have a well defined ethical framework. They chose to not believe the studies that were published.

Sure, they may have been willingly misled about this, they have been working with Harper for 2 years. Let's not infantilise this individual though. They were fully aware of the science. If Harpers current data was that convincing, Harper would have convinced British Cycling otherwise, or to at least hold off. That has not happened, yet Harper is very well connected and I doubt Harper would not have had access to whatever committee decided this.

Bridges has always been fully aware that this is a contentious issue. They made their choices IN SPITE of women saying this was wholly unfair. That they can now publish a statement this farcical is rather remarkable.

Common sense at last - lets hope rugby and rowing follow suit

I never normally click on a Pink News link but was very happy to do so here.

Ditto!

I'm cracking up reading Bridges' absurdly melodramatic, impotent mantrum. Thank you British Cycling!

lechiffre55 · 26/05/2023 14:55

I've been catching up on this on many online sources.
I've just realised that despite all the fancy words and long winded pieces it boils down to females in the women's race, and men and anyone on male hormones in the male race. It's almost like after years of heated arguing we arrived pretty much back where we started.

To be fair, it is a pretty extreme position that transwomen ought to be able to compete in women's sport, not one held by all trans people or allies. It does

This is true and therefore all the more bizarre that it was (and still is in many sports) ever allowed to happen.

Pink news still haven’t thought to take down the voting.
Over 1000 are happy in less than half an hour !

Now at 2163! 😂

zibzibara · 26/05/2023 15:01

Does anyone know if any males had already competed in British Cycling events for women? If so, are their results going to be retrospectively annulled?

Not called the male race anymore, it is the 'Open Catergory'.
Looks like sanity has prevailed, other than the nonsense names for the catergories.

Helleofabore · 26/05/2023 15:09

It is very easy to see what is in it for Bridges.

It will never be enough to be a male trans person competing in an open competition. I suspect they will fade to obscurity and won't be lauded and awarded.

I wonder though, if Bridges will now move to the US and compete until the US cycling or the World cycling follow the British cycling move. Surely that would be the solution now that there is no further opportunity for this individual to take the place of a female cyclist in the Olympic GB team. That is what this was all about anyway.

ZuttZeVootEeeVo · 26/05/2023 15:11

Perhaps we need to rename man 'open', and keep 'woman' for females, too.

The statement by Bridges is bonkers.

Iafontaine · 26/05/2023 15:13

what a nice start to the week-end. I hope many other sports and many other countries take this as a sign to do the same.

Even an American college sports scholarship? US colleges give generous sports scholarships and the US debate is partly about the requirement for colleges to provide equal funding for female sport as well as male sport. Those high school girls speaking up because they missed out on qualifying for state athletics finals because a trans athlete was faster, may have lost not just a race but the chance of a University education.

Or maybe a Male and Female catergory! 😂

Absolutely. I reckon that's all this 'I'm going to leave this terrible island' nonsense was about.

They'll Keep going for as long as the grift works, imo.

Things are levelling out, although the loves class as happy I would say!

Another vote for Happy on the Pink News link.

Happy? I'm fucking ecstatic!

Bridges' ridiculous self-pitying outpourings are a perfect illustration of how spoilt, utterly selfish, self-centred and blinkered some of these people are.

More than happy to see Emily's toys being thrown out of the pram. First thing you learn as a woman is 'you can't have it all'.

greencardigangirl · 26/05/2023 15:22

RoyalCorgi · 26/05/2023 14:19

I was already thrilled to bits about this news, but Emily Bridges' response is the icing on the cake. The world can see Emily for what Emily is: an overgrown toddler having a massive temper tantrum.

Absolutely 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Igmum · 26/05/2023 15:24

2216 happy at the Pink News article now. Well done British Cycling (and about time too Grin)

The thing is that I understand Bridges was competing quite successfully as a man before transitioning. However, it's very competitive and only the very best succeed. That just makes it worse that they want to bulldoze female athletes out of the way. Pathetic. Utterly pathetic.

Called it.

The numbers started changing once clocks in the US ticked round to daytime.
