'the World Professional Association of Transgender Health (WPATH) has published their Standards of Care version 8.These give very clear and evidence-based recommendations on how to care for transgender people. These recommendations were jointly published by 130 international experts coming together to share their knowledge and expertise and having evaluated the research.
These should be immediately adopted to form the core standards of care that is provided in the UK rather than allow the current UK specialists, who did not take part in the development of these standards, to reestablish their own protocols and care pathways.
One of the allegations that the GMC made against me was that I had failed to follow WPATH guidance, and that of the Endocrine Society. These allegations were not found proved but during their determinations, the Tribunal found ‘that WPATHSOC7 has the status of peer-reviewed expert guidance.’ To not adopt this guidance puts our UK doctors at risk of criticism by their regulator.
The MPTS also found that the University of San Francisco and California (UCSF) Guidelines ‘had the status of peer-reviewed expert guidance’. It was, in other words, ‘the practice accepted as proper by a responsible body of medical men skilled in that particular art’.’ (Para 223)
The WPATH SOC8 and the Endocrine Society Guidelines 2017 and the UCSF Guidelines endorse the use of puberty blockers and gender-affirming hormones* after having extensively reviewed the literature. I see absolutely no reason why you cannot recommend that UK clinicians adopt these excellent guidelines, and start providing care to these patients, today.'

I suppose this isnt really a letter to Dr Cass, is it? It's a performance for others.

How much attention do we think Dr Cass will pay? After all it's an open letter from a doctor who narrowly escaped being struck off. Dr Webberley may see herself as a kind of heroine and martyr but Dr Cass might see her and her open letter a little differently.

Well, there was laughter...as Eliza Mondegreen reported from EPATH, when an attendee mentioned the data on osteoporosis from trans medicalisation, there was nervous laughter from the floor.

And then they went right on along, passing on discussing this. And other similar serious stuff.

Yep, robust, data driven, ethical...yada yada yada.

If I was Dr Cass, I'd be fucking well ticked off.

None. Dr Cass is an eminent retired consultant paediatrician, who has previously been the head of her professional association. She has chosen to accept instructions in this matter in the full knowledge that it is a hugely controversial topic with a long and inglorious history of external pressure from vociferous lobby groups.

She is hardly going to feel threatened by a checks notes GP with no relevant legitimate specialist qualifications who has previously been explicitly sanctioned by the GMC for unethical practices and lack of insight.

Absolutely no conflict of interest there….

there are no new referrals being made to NHS paediatric endocrinology at UCLH. There is currently no access to NHS endocrinology and this urgent need must be addressed

Hmm, does Dr Helen have a suggestion of how this urgent need might be addressed?

Blockers and hormones are an essential part of that care for those who request, and are ready for medical transition.
There are literally thousands of transgender young people who are desperately waiting for care .... Trans children are dying, and something needs to be done. Today.

What action could a desperate parent possibly take after reading this?
