It’s not clear what the customer said, it’s presumed she misgenders the employee as he calls her transphobic. He calls her Karen and then either grabs the phone or the person who’s filming.

If anyone was acting like a Karen it was definitely the employee

WhyThatsDelightful · 08/05/2023 14:11

Starbucks is a safe place for their barista in this video. Individuals asserting basic legal and social boundaries are not safe, as this video shows.

Starbucks have been successfully dismantling social boundaries for years, not just for adults. Starbucks have been promoting the “transitioning” of children. For commercial advantage.

Here’s Jennie aged 11 in this particular Starbucks promotion - I’ve still no idea how this hasn’t been investigated, what exactly is that bedroom, and what role is the adult playing?

Well that's not very ladylike is it? 😂

My question though is how this started. What did the woman in question do or say to get this kind of response? The only way she would have used this person’s pronouns is if she was talking about them.

That said it doesn’t really matter what she did or said, the employee shouldn’t have behaved that way.

I would guess that she referred to him as a male, when talking to the barista behind the counter, e.g. "Can I take your order?" "No, it's OK, thanks, he's already taken it".

It's very hard to imagine any scenario when she would intentionally 'misgender' him to his face: short middle aged women do not wilfully antagonise tall young men standing next to them.

The reviews of the place 'where the staff assault the customers' are starting to mount up.

You can see in the footage that the woman is trying to not react to him, and he's just getting himself more and more wound up and losing his temper and then he starts with the more directed aggression followed by the fairly prolonged assault.

Looking at the footage I think he was surprised she stood her ground and didn't drop to the floor in an act of supplication.

It's also pretty obvious he didn't think he'd be filmed.

The fact he attacked the person filming is relevant because it means he knew his actions were unacceptable.

If he had good reason to behave as he did why would he care about that being captured on video?

It reminds me of the Plymouth (?) FPFW meeting where TRA's blocked the hallway and when a NB was "misgendered" and started screaming "my pronouns are they" as if this should have been blatantly obvious.

defi · 08/05/2023 14:18

If anyone was a Karen here it was the transformer. The customer didn't assault anyone

Thank you Nic - that's the one!

It's also pretty obvious he didn't think he'd be filmed.

He didn't think he'd be filmed by an independent witness, but I bet the branch has CCTV, so he knew he'd be filmed. The CCTV would not have had audio, but would still have captured him clapping into the customer's face. He clearly expected Starbucks to find his behaviour acceptable.

If he really thought he was the victim he would have been glad to have someone filming it.

I think you nailed it!👏

spiderplantparty · 08/05/2023 14:24

Women are told to be kind to everyone all of the time. The person who was working for Starbucks appears to have missed that memo. I agree with the poster above who mentioned the problems in reading name badges without reading glasses and could easily see me accidentally misgendering someone.

Well that’s what I thought. And it’s not like he’s stood there in a frock. I don’t imagine she’s gone in and said ‘what the fuck have you come as’. It’ll only have been a passing use of a pronoun I would expect.

I was thinking about that picture the other day. So fucking odd, the whole premise and execution.

Pluvia · 08/05/2023 14:28

Interested in the response of his co-worker who stood well back and didn't get involved. Can't help feeling that if I liked my co-worker I'd have tried to calm things down.

To be fair, I think this male staff member did not call her a Karen. Just said ‘you are trespassing now’.

He called her karen. It's perfectly audible

I believe it was “my pronouns are they you c*” iirc.

So the staff member was in a tizzy over wrong pronouns, yet the staff member called the customer "Karen". Was he assuming the customer's gender identity? It must be exhausting spending 24/7 obsessing over how you identify and looking to be misgendered.

finallygotospeaktoSky · 08/05/2023 14:32

Starbucks guy if you have XY chromosomes = man always has done, get over it.

Pluvia · 08/05/2023 14:34

'You're being transphobic, Karen.' Listen from 0.50.

https://twitter.com/RupertMyers/status/1655477645184835586

What's with all this 'to be fair' nonsense coming from people? This man has verbally assaulted and intimidated a paying customer and has then assaulted the man with the phone. 'Give me the phone.'

Are these the trans rights they keep going on about? The right to assault people, seize property etc?

Starbucks, 1 Town Quay, Southampton, SO14 2AQ

This incident is doing wonders for their reviews!

Oh dear. "Signature roast" is going to take on a whole new meaning.

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 08/05/2023 14:35

As he was running towards the camera does she say “you spat in my coffee”?????

ichifanny · 08/05/2023 14:36

Working with the public in any way you get mistaken and called all sorts , been confused for a 60 year old woman I worked with when I was 21 , been called a laddie or young man , called fat , skinny , you name it , you just met it roll off your back .
trans people need to accept if they are messing with gender and how they present themselves it’s going to happen and they can’t just get violent and kick off .

stbrandonsboat · 08/05/2023 14:37

Nice little narcissistic rage episode there. It's a pity the general public have to tolerate their tantrums and violence though.

No, I think she says 'Actually' and then 'Actually' again, as he walks away.

I can imagine his flecks of ragey spittle going everywhere though
