Just posting this as on a thread elsewhere I made some disparaging remarks that the debate will be shuffled off to some small committee room.

But they must think that more than a few MPs are wanting to take part as I have just seen it will be in Westminster Hall.

Will be interesting to see which MPs are willing to state views about the reality of biological sex in public!

Event will be broadcast live.

What happened with Jess Phillips? I’m catching up

Tories obfuscating about setting the record straight and following the advice of Baroness Falkener.

And as a nine-times Tory voter, they want my vote a tenth time?

They can go swivel.

I don't know what to say, women of MN, and all women out there, the politicos just will not do the right thing.

I'm not a woman, I cannot imagine how you're all feeling tonight. I can guess...let down and pissed off.

I can only argue from personal experience as a believer in free speech and generally paid up member of the pro-science and anti-superstition fraternity, and my faith in the elites is badly dented by the "no outcome" outcome of this process today.

Who will you vote for?

Oh but it's FINE to create fucking "additional problems" for women in the first instance!! FFS. 🤦🏽‍♀️

Exactly.

It was fine to create a fuckton of problems with the GRA (I acknowledge that was Labour).

How about we repeal that instead then due to all the problems it's caused.

What happened with Jess Phillips? I’m catching up

She said 'biology' and she said women need single sex spaces.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 12/06/2023 19:57

The interesting this is that the MP who were speaking for women and girls knew their stuff and the ones against, just spouted TRA speak.

Well done Maya and Helen. Really well done.

IwantToRetire · 12/06/2023 19:58

Am wondering how this will be reported - if at all - by the news media.

But although disappointing (the joint debate made that inevitable) it was good to hear and see that some MPs have been paying attention.

Many more facts and acknowledgement of issues about loss of women's rights, and the other side was all emotion, and even trying to suggest it was shameful to discuss as it hurts trans people to do so.

I think my feelings now - relief that it was aired, and more clearly & openly than I'd expected, & a readiness to patiently await further discussion - is a damning measure of how bad things have got, as pissed off WOULD make a hell of a lot more sense!

Slothtoes · 12/06/2023 19:59

Labour MP Antonia Antoniazzi is a gem
Very clear on Intersex and she is brilliant making moderate arguments from based around risk management and typical patterns of male violence

Slothtoes · 12/06/2023 19:59

Sorry should have said, ‘Intersex’ arguments

And I’m finally cautious, a most enjoyable read

’you’re a dog whistle’ was my favourite moment I think

Slothtoes · 12/06/2023 20:00

She said people with DSD want to be left out of it

Catiette · 12/06/2023 20:00

Could someone advise on how to save / access this retrospectively? May advise some people to watch the first hour as an excellent précis, in a context that makes hard to dismiss as unimportant or phobic.

SunnyEgg · 12/06/2023 20:01

Labour and SNP zealots concern me more

And the debate hasn’t ameliorated that, Cons far more for biological reality

Boiledbeetle · 12/06/2023 20:02

Right I'm off to be more horizontal. Whilst i catch up on what I've missed in the last few hours!

Aha. Ahem. Turns out rewinding helps! Things went a bit wonky & it wasn't looking like it would work for a minute!

Catiette · 12/06/2023 20:02

Time to rest!

IwantToRetire · 12/06/2023 20:03

I think, but due to lack of food and too much coffee may be wrong. but this should be the debate from the start. https://www.parliamentlive.tv/Event/Index/60ce7953-6b23-4a2b-8bb0-0d59b94b380a

If not they check the Parliament tv archive later.
