Debate relating to the definition of “sex” in the Equality Act 2010 will be in Westminster Hall on 12 June 2023 4:30pm

Just posting this as on a thread elsewhere I made some disparaging remarks that the debate will be shuffled off to some small committee room.

But they must think that more than a few MPs are wanting to take part as I have just seen it will be in Westminster Hall.

Will be interesting to see which MPs are willing to state views about the reality of biological sex in public!

Event will be broadcast live.

Jamie Wallis is a he?

Yes, he is. He said so.

Jamie Wallis is a he?

It’s an enormous umbrella isn’t it?

IwantToRetire · 12/06/2023 19:50

So all this procedure to allow the people to have a voice (petitions) can just get talked out, and the existing Government in fact doesn't listen to the debate but just comes with a prepared statement.

It's so serious we must all go away and have a long think about it.

WtF does she think we've been doing since the GRA consultation.

Are they going to decide this pm?

Slothtoes · 12/06/2023 19:51

Maria Caulfield the relevant government minister, is kicking it into the long grass so far- saying government needs to consider further - we need to take the time to consider etc etc we don’t want to create additional problems which are not foreseen etc etc proper consideration and time.

We haven’t got to that time in this government
How much more harassment and abuse and risk should women have to go through until this gets a change?

A lot of good things have come out of this. Some amazingly articulate speakers for change. And some real gifts from the other side.

Yes. Interesting to see how the majority of speakers were lucid and informed, and arguing in favour of women's rights.

SabrinaThwaite · 12/06/2023 19:52

Tonia Antoniazzi being quite clear that DSDs are not a third sex and nothing to do with this.

chilling19 · 12/06/2023 19:52

Overall, my blood pressure was OK. 👍

Are they going to decide this pm?

No

But as much as I care about this it is a huge decision

If it happens soon and Labour / Lib Dem don’t bring carnage then fine

IwantToRetire · 12/06/2023 19:52

Are they going to decide this pm?

Its just a debate. At most to get how seriously MPs think the issue.

And Tory through their Minister have made it clear that nothing is going to happen soon as it needs to be thought about.

Yes - leave intersex alone. And the kids

IwantToRetire · 12/06/2023 19:52

Labour women speaking up for trans but nor for women. Cringe.

Catiette · 12/06/2023 19:53

That's fair enough, really. I just wish that closing speech had acknowledged the overall tenure more honestly.

Catiette · 12/06/2023 19:53

(In response to Retire).

Friths · 12/06/2023 19:53

Ok thanks. I think that's a good sign.

SunnyEgg · 12/06/2023 19:53

What was that aye thing?

Catiette · 12/06/2023 19:54

Tenor. I think. I'm very tired now.

pantsforteaagain · 12/06/2023 19:54

Why do people keep saying I don't mind if someone is trans or gay or lesbian. We're not talking about sexual orientation. It's only trans!

IwantToRetire · 12/06/2023 19:54

Aye what? That chair was hopeless.

That both petitions had been considered.

Oh but it's FINE to create fucking "additional problems" for women in the first instance!! FFS. 🤦🏽‍♀️

RealityFan · 12/06/2023 19:55

Tories obfuscating about setting the record straight and following the advice of Baroness Falkener.

And as a nine-times Tory voter, they want my vote a tenth time?

They can go swivel.

I don't know what to say, women of MN, and all women out there, the politicos just will not do the right thing.

I'm not a woman, I cannot imagine how you're all feeling tonight. I can guess...let down and pissed off.

I can only argue from personal experience as a believer in free speech and generally paid up member of the pro-science and anti-superstition fraternity, and my faith in the elites is badly dented by the "no outcome" outcome of this process today.

Boiledbeetle · 12/06/2023 19:55

god im exhausted. well that seemed more positive than i expected

xabia · 12/06/2023 19:55

And Jess Phillips!! What a great moment that was!
