Just posting this as on a thread elsewhere I made some disparaging remarks that the debate will be shuffled off to some small committee room.

But they must think that more than a few MPs are wanting to take part as I have just seen it will be in Westminster Hall.

Will be interesting to see which MPs are willing to state views about the reality of biological sex in public!

Event will be broadcast live.

you know I still find it difficult to reconcile the fact that as a labour person I am finding myself agreeing with way too many of the conservative party, but the labour party are just so fucking wet!

I was just thinking the same myself. At least they are making coherent sensible points.

chilling19 · 12/06/2023 17:46

Ok Jess - are you coming off the fence finally?

ArabeIIaScott · 12/06/2023 17:46

IDK

ArabeIIaScott · 12/06/2023 17:46

I feel the fence is hovering

DialSquare · 12/06/2023 17:46

Anyone else notice that the MPs agreeing with the clarification of the equality act have all mentioned that they have compassion for Trans People but the TWAW MPs have not mentioned women and girls at all?

IwantToRetire · 12/06/2023 17:46

all about the emotional blackmail and spouting bullshit about homophobia with no evidence

YES JESSS

CriticalCondition · 12/06/2023 17:47

Jess Phillips saying very clearly she has suffered discrimination on the basis of her sex, ie her biology and that is different from gender.

SunnyEgg · 12/06/2023 17:47

FriendofJoanne · 12/06/2023 17:45

It may be my bias but the speakers for clarifying the act seem to be so much clearer whereas AE was all about the emotional blackmail and spouting bullshit about homophobia with no evidence

Because all they have is telling people they are being stirred up by culture wars

And it’s muddled and based on non truths

They cannot listen to women and girls first

ACatCalledPushka · 12/06/2023 17:47

Am pleasantly surprised by Jess Phillips!

Is Jess climbing off the fence?

Yes!!!

Finally.

ArabeIIaScott · 12/06/2023 17:47

Thank you, Jess.

maudesvagina · 12/06/2023 17:48

That was unexpected from JP

SunnyEgg · 12/06/2023 17:49

Good we might stand a chance if they’re not all Angela Eagle types

ArabeIIaScott · 12/06/2023 17:49

the needs of different groups ... LGBT victims ... specialist services. This is great to hear.

Ramblingnamechanger · 12/06/2023 17:49

Bloody hell, I never thought I’d hear her say that!

CriticalCondition · 12/06/2023 17:49

JP - it is devastating that women's only services are being closed down in favour of generic support services.
There is confusion and fear about the law and it is the responsibility of parliament to clarify it. It should not be left to the courts.

chilling19 · 12/06/2023 17:49

I am aghast - Phillips has nailed her colours to the mast! This means that Labour is now seeing the light otherwise she would not have done this. She is all about what is in it for her.

chilling19 · 12/06/2023 17:50

Now PB - Sir Peter Bottomley (Conservative)

IwantToRetire · 12/06/2023 17:50

That's telling. That Government wont include specifying women (biological) only services.

If only more women working in the "VAW Sector" had stood up and spoken up about the need for sex based rights / services.

Shows how when speaking from personal experience. Wouldn't normally thank JP but will today.

Blimey - didn't realise Peter Bottomley was still an MP!

whereaw · 12/06/2023 17:51

Pleasantly surprised so far!

SabrinaThwaite · 12/06/2023 17:51

Peter Bottomley - supporting Joyce and Stock. He publically stood up for Stock when she was bullied out of Sussex Uni.

JESS PHILLIPS?!!?

Fuck me, the tide must be nearly all the way out if she's finally speaking up for reality.

Has that colossal disappointment Ben Bradshaw spoken yet?
