Is anyone here going to this? I'm pondering whether to go and whether it will be safe.

Are there any more details? I am not far from Brum (on the train at least), I would be happy to come along.

PonyPatter44 · 30/04/2023 20:29

Oh and @Babysharkdoodoodood , I would happily meet you beforehand and we could go together!

Wellies54 · 30/04/2023 20:42

I'm going too. In terms of safety, when I went to Hyde Park at Easter I realized that there are a lot of other members of the public around so arriving and leaving you can blend in with everyone else just going about their business. There weren't any protesters on that occasion but then and at subsequent events there seems to be a really good, well organised police presence.

oldwomanwhoruns · 30/04/2023 21:19

I'll be there! Perhaps we should have Mumsnet badges 😊

Babysharkdoodoodood · 01/05/2023 04:40

I only know, from the stream from Speakers Corner, that it's in the centre somewhere.

OP posts:
Norma27 · 01/05/2023 04:51

I will be there. Looking forward to it.

OldFan · 01/05/2023 05:07

Ooh interesting, I live in Brum. Anyone have any idea where it'll be?

I don’t think it has been said yet. Above said the stream yesterday mentioned central so maybe by where old library was or new library is.

Ndd135632 · 01/05/2023 08:25

You think Jess Phillips will show up with local women. Nah?

Norma27 · 01/05/2023 11:06

Jess is my MP. She won’t be there.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 01/05/2023 11:23

I’m going to go, I can get the train there. I gather there are pub shenagings after ?

do I need a placard? Any tips for making one?

OldFan · 01/05/2023 22:44

Jess- nah! The lefty MPs tend to be less openly gender critical, as otherwise they face a lot of hastle like Rosie thingy.

I think Nadine Dories has been the most openly sympathetic to it all, she bought an Adult Human Female shirt.

From looking at the place marker on the map, that might be just arbitrarily placed to represent Birmingham, but if it does represent anything, it looks like it's over the side of town by the law courts/Aston uni.

Feministwoman · 02/05/2023 16:20

I can't find any info, apart from the date?

I will be there I think if I can sum up the courage. It will be my first one. Not sure why I worry about it but I’m only just finding my voice. I’m aware I sound a bit pathetic!

🤣 Bless.

Cheezecake · 03/05/2023 00:38

I think I went to the thing in Shrewsbury. A placard is up to you, @stealtheatingtunnocks . Post-event drinks is highly likely.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 04/05/2023 15:02

You know, @MissMarplesNiece I find these hateful fascists are interesting, engaging, funny and generous.

I can t figure it out at all.

thanks, @Cheezecake ill sort a travelodge or similar

Cheezecake · 04/05/2023 16:06

I do worry about the over-use of words such as fascist.

dimorphism · 04/05/2023 16:47

'fascist' = respectable friendly mother who is concerned about and speaks up about child safeguarding these days.

DecommissionedVag · 05/05/2023 10:04

I'm considering going to this, but I'm a bit nervous as I've not been to anything like this before.
Do any mumsnetters plan on meeting up beforehand? If so, I'd love to join you.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 05/05/2023 12:29

i don’t know Birmingham very well. Do we know where in the city it is? I need to arrange accommodation

porridgeisbae · 11/05/2023 22:54

@stealtheatingtunnocks Apparently it's in Centenary Square. That's really easy to find. Smile

@DecommissionedVag I'd be happy to have a coffee or something before. Smile

@JOD74 I'm sure everyone listening would be supportive. And of course, you don't have to say anything yourself if you don't want to. I'm not intending to, just coming along to have a listen to others.

FemaleAndLearning · 11/05/2023 23:51

I know loads of women who are going. To stay safe you can ensure any obvious signs you are a terf like a woman definition t shirt are covered up. Can't do much about the middle aged meanie mummy look though!
We won't know how safe it will be until we see the policing. Hopefully they will keep the partying protesters far enough away that we can hear.

If at any time you feel unsafe there will be lots of women to support you. The stewards are brilliant.

Centenary Square is about a 15 min walk from the train station. No doubt you will bump into fellow women along the way.

See you there!

How about the praeternaturally haggard deranged spinster look? I also get some people who think I'm secretly a man. Grin
