Is anyone here going to this? I'm pondering whether to go and whether it will be safe.

OP posts:

The lack of police was outrageous. A man who wished us luck with our cause told me he had asked the police why they didn't get the TRA mob to turn their music down and was told that if they tried to do that there would be a riot! He then asked why there weren't more police present and they said they hadn't known it was happening - to which he replied that he had seen it on twitter, so why hadn't they?

I ended up being in the boundary line too and saw the trans ally woman turned away.

My thoughts on that and her complaint:

If she wanted to create an event / space to say what she wanted to say about being a trans ally, no one from the LWS side would be there protesting trying to drown out her words. In all honestly I would love to know what would be said at such an event - I think it is a good thing to hear opposing views to either cement or adjust my position on an issue.

But is it really so hard to grasp that the LWS events are for women to talk about the threat to women's rights and the reality of the the harms that gender ideology does to children and to the rights and safety of women? And that therefore it's probably not the space for you if you are not bothered about keeping and strengthening women's boundaries?

I was probably holding hands with you.
Police .... minding blowing the incompetence

porridgeisbae · 15/05/2023 12:21

The one critique I had of the event was they could prioritize localish women speaking at each of the events maybe. There were a few West Mids speakers but not that many.

I imagine that perhaps some of the speakers are regulars at the events (not that the things they said weren't great.)

DarkDayforMN · 15/05/2023 12:38

She wanted to speak on the behalf of the men. She said but I'm a woman I should be allowed.
Explaining to a woman that this was for women to speak for women. She walked away and went back to holding her sign.

Doesn't it undermine the messaging to say that any women are allowed to speak, and then turn away that one? (I'm not a TRA being snidey, I promise, I just don't quite get this!)

Deep admiration as always for KJK and all the courageous women who spoke.

tourdefrance · 15/05/2023 12:46

Sorry to have missed this, I’m just down the road too.
134 people in my MP’s constituency signed the petition to review the GRA but I don’t know any body locally (or like me they are very discreet).

porridgeisbae · 15/05/2023 12:51

@tourdefrance I don't know if I saw/signed that, but I'm in Ladywood (not far from Broad Street/Brindley Place) if you ever fancy coffee or a pint. Smile

I get what you're saying and for all I know, if KJK had been near the boundary line at that moment the TRA / trans ally might have been invited in by her.

That said, the stewards (and members of the public who end up holding the line) are making decisions on their feet to keep KJK and other attendees safe. This particular woman had earlier been an active member of the TRA group - as opposed to someone on the sidelines making up the numbers - so I assume the decision was made to keep her out rather than risk her being a danger to KJK and others.

Helleofabore · 15/05/2023 08:27

What a great job the stewards and all who helped them did! Thank you Norma if you were helping. It is a surreal experience to be face to face with these protestors. And most of the time they have no idea what beliefs the women who are gathered there have.

I cannot believe the lack of policing there.

I wasn’t a steward but I know them and helped stop a huge man invading the stage. If you have seen that on twitter, I am the tiny one with black hair. And apparently he had an erection. 🤢

Some protesters held a sign that said, 'Let trans ally women speak'. They clearly don't understand that they are welcome to speak. As women, they are just as free to stand up and give their opinion. There was one woman who spoke who started off with an apology that she had once been on the trans activist side and she had denounced a group of women for their pro-women stance. The group of women she had denounced interrupted her, began to jeer at her, said she was a liar and Kellie-Jay said, 'Let her speak', and she finished her speech. It really is an event to Let Women Speak, all women.

That woman, who had been part of our women's group, had tried to get us thrown out of the venue where we met, threatened to out women to their employers, contacted our local MP and the council. This Feburary she accused us of 'having blood on our hands' because of the murder of that trans identifying teenager. She caused our group a huge amount of fear and distress. instead

She has multiple Facebook accounts under different names, claims to have various qualifications, which she doesn't and has identified as a member of whatever group is flavour of the month. She is a fantasist who is only interested in getting attention and building her brand. She has NEVER apologise d to us in person, but she comes to LWS to make a big, dramatic, self pitying speech in public? No, I don't believe her, she is not to be trusted.

This is just hate, no other word for her event.

Hepwo · 15/05/2023 14:37

Do you love all those things listed then Merlin?

Norma27 · 15/05/2023 14:39

Merlin I normally ignore you. I was there yesterday threatened with violence by a huge man who was trying to get to the speakers.
The hate and violence all came from your side. Now jog on and shove your bullying where the sun doesn’t shine.

MerlinsLostMarbles · 15/05/2023 14:40

I can see why KJK was met with such resistance and protestors in Aus and NZ.

It's too bad the UK tolerates and puts up with such hate.

Norma27 · 15/05/2023 14:42

Merlin- one lady was talking about her pregnancy loss, whilst those on your side jeered and shouted.
No doubt you have been shouting abuse too.

MerlinsLostMarbles · 15/05/2023 14:42

Norma did you click the link and watch the video?

Norma27 · 15/05/2023 14:43

Merlin- why are you happy to see women assaulted?

Faffertea · 15/05/2023 14:46

It really is extraordinary how Merlin has managed to turn up and post on this thread but not the related one in which an FWR member talks about her 15 year old daughter being assaulted by the TRAs.

Proof if any were needed of what Merlin thinks of women and their legal right to speak.

I think you'll find that most of them can't see it, having already blocked the Twitter account owner as a self-confessed Incel troll.

That quote you're calling "hate" was true.

You don't understand what queer theory is if you think that it doesn't lump bestiality, torture and pedophilia into the category of "queer" - you're missing the entire point of it.

You're ignorant, and you're too ignorant to know that you're ignorant. You're projecting on to the speaker that she must be wrong or bigoted, because you're too ignorant to realise that you don't know what you're talking about, or even to countenance the possibility that you have something to learn.

Do you deny that there are people who are queer who participate in those sexual activities and who are very vocal about destigmatising them? I mean there are people who are not calling themselves 'queer' who are also very vocal about destignmatising them.

Bestiality
Domination and submission
Sadomasochism (torture)
Voyeurism
Paedophilia

The difference is, when we talk about people who are not queer who are working towards destigmatising these fetishes, people don't push back really. It seems to be those within the queer community who push back on attempts to point out these attempts to normalise 'kink' and to legitimise those in that list that are illegal and are abusive.

Why is that?

If a community doesn't wish to be associated with those sex acts, some of which are highly abusive and illegal, why is the community not strenuously pushing back against those people who are engaged in them, promoting them and those people attempting to tie them into the LGBTQ+ community?

I think you have been on this board long enough to know that your point here is fuckwittery. And you are again attempting to dismiss the violence that again was part of yesterday's event.

Your continued dismissal of VAWAG is clear to us all.

tourdefrance · 15/05/2023 15:18

Thank you @porridgeisbae . Not quite that close but appreciate the offer.

ArabeIIaScott · 15/05/2023 15:23

Good lord. This is what you want to highlight, Merlin?

FYI, voyeurism is a sexual offence. It's non-consensual by definition. And yes, that is 'bad'.

I won't even begin to get into the offensiveness of 'men as the default dom'.
