Very on point @FictionalCharacter Interesting that DM isn’t interested in carrying sanitary pads to offer to women, isn’t it. Just tampons. Some men are fascinated by tampons because they are objects that are inserted in the vagina. Men associate that with sexual pleasure.
If someone genuinely wanted to “be kind”, carrying a spare pad is much more inclusive than a tampon. Some of us can’t use tampons, or choose not to use them due to cultural or other reasons. Some of us might need a pad in an emergency due to a continence issue, especially following pregnancy.
As others have said, in a period emergency, you’d stuff your knickers with loo roll and hope for the best, not ask a stranger, and most definitely not a male for a tampon.
Tampon sales are falling. More of us than ever are using long acting contraception that reduces periods or are taking the combined pill without a break. A lot of us are menopausal but are showing our daughters a better way. More of us have discovered the money saving and other advantages of reuseable san pro.
Companies like Tampax are hoping to extend flagging sales by persuading as many people as possible to carry tampons in case others need them. And for trans women to buy them as a lifestyle accessory. It will fail as a strategy because campaigns featuring trans women will alienate people, as this thread is demonstrating.
