For those of who are aware of the Tickle vs Giggle court case in Australia, Sall Grover is looking for some gardening to be done to support her defence. The deplorable response of politicians and the press in Australia to the Let Women Speak rallies, only emphasises how important this case will be.

Just search Giggle crowd fund - she has set up her own site to avoid any potential censorship by the established sites

So CEDAW states that when gender identity comes into conflict with sex, sex must prevail. (Right at the end of the unrolled thread).

How very interesting.

Yes, there was a thread on it a couple of days ago. Here's an excerpt of Reem Alsalem's ( United Nations Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women and Girls) opinion on the matter:

Based on the above analysis of relevant international law, it is clear that sex and gender are two different concepts. However, international law does not permit any derogation to the prohibition of discrimination against women based on sex. Where tension may arise between the right to non-discrimination based on sex and non-discrimination based on gender or gender identity, international human rights law does not endorse an interpretation that allows either for derogations from the obligation to ensure non-discrimination based on sex or the subordination of this obligation not to discriminate based on sex to other rights. . . .
Such a reading is supported by the General Recommendation No. 25 of the CEDAW Committee which states that “biological as well as socially and culturally constructed differences between women and men must be taken into account [emphasis added]”. It is my view that international human rights treaties, including CEDAW, prohibit such derogation under any circumstance, including during a public emergency. While some treaties may permit derogations from human rights obligations, such exceptions must not involve discrimination on the ground of sex

Unfortunately (if I understand correctly) Helen Joyce will now not be called as a witness and her evidence will be treated as a document submission only, which is a shame.

Waitwhat23 · 09/04/2024 08:18

That was my reading as well. It's quite astonishing.

TheSandgroper · 09/04/2024 08:56

And, and, and, the ABC have it on their website. Wonders will never cease/even they can’t ignore this.

7pm news from Sydney on News24 any minute so I shall watch.

Snowypeaks · 09/04/2024 09:49

I don't have Twitter, so I read yesterday's thread unroll. From that and the snippets posted on here today, the judge seems quite prejudiced against SG. I think she will lose in this court but win on appeal, very much like Forstater.

Rightsraptor · 09/04/2024 10:02

I'm not on X and have only been able to read the thread unroll - can anyone post any missing bits, please?

Snowypeaks · 09/04/2024 10:08

Oops. Meant this morning's thread unroll, not yesterday's.

HornyHornersPinkyWinky · 09/04/2024 10:19

Placemarking - best of luck Sall.

seXX · 09/04/2024 10:23

Anyone else find it amusing that Tickle's counsel is 'GC' on tribunal tweets? 😀

Rightsraptor · 09/04/2024 10:25

Yes, me too! It makes for confusing reading at times.

I often misread things as I skim them. Currently people are writing about the new 'gender centres' which I misread as garden centres.

I sometimes wonder how I get through the day 🙄

SerpentEndBench · 09/04/2024 14:41

Just catching up, thank you TT and all the wims on here.

Chapeau to Sall, she is brave, old fashioned brave.

We finally have an explanation of "living as a woman/female"

"Tickle gave evidence late on Tuesday afternoon. When asked to detail what “living as a female” meant, the accountant described

  • taking hormones that changed her body,
  • having gender affirmation surgery and
  • undergoing social transitions.
  • She has changed her gender markers on government documents and
  • spent time and money on her wardrobe and
  • removing her facial hair, as well as
  • using female changing rooms and
  • playing in a female hockey team, she said."

Sigh.

I have done 2 out of 8 of those things.

Does that mean I haven't been living as a woman?

Snowypeaks · 09/04/2024 16:21

I've only done one on that list. I am definitely not living as a woman. Oo-er.

I wonder what I am living as?

Boiledbeetle · 09/04/2024 16:26

I was going to say just one for me, but then wondered if the definition of removing facial hair encompassed the rubbing of fingers on chin and rooting about for a pair of tweezers. If so then 2 for me!

Gosh, we really aren't fulfilling our living as a women/females potential are we.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 09/04/2024 16:26

My husband has actually done two of the things on that list.

He removes his facial hair. I don't. According to Roxanne Tickle this makes my husband a woman and me.... a non woman... ??

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 09/04/2024 16:27

Literally sitting here giggling at this. The idea that shaving one's beard off makes one a woman has really tickled me.

Especially as Alex below is busy expanding the bandwidth of what a woman is without shaving off the beard!

(Why Alex can't expand the bandwidth of what a man is seems not to enter Alex's head)
