The Irish need to keep the pressure up. People power. The tide has turned. People are having no more of this nonsense.
Next step reverse the GRA.

Yay every win especially those that bring sunlight is a good thing 😀

It's like the Irish have suddenly woken up, even the liberal lefty hippy dippy mums are like enough is enough. The kindness has run out.

There's been a bit of a backlash against trans rights over here but on the whole most people don't agree with anti -trans activists. There's a lot of healthy scorn for all these weird outdated conservative types and fingers crossed the support for all rights will continue.

I would characterise it as some tiny, initial indications that some delusional beliefs shouldn’t negatively impact on women’s safety.

I’m not sure who you mean by ‘weird outdated conservative types’.

RoseslnTheHospital · 04/04/2023 22:56

Great to read about this change of heart, let's hope it sticks and doesn't get brought brought back quietly when they think everyone has forgotten about it.

It's just insult flinging and an attempt to smear/sneer at women.

Great to hear, OP. Hoping Ireland is turning as Scotland did.

Those countries that have been subjected to the more extreme forms of genderism will very likely be the first to witness the issues predicted by feminists (who were at best roundly ignored, at worst, pilloried, smeared and attacked), and therefore it wouldn't surprise me if they are the ones to slam the brakes on hardest.

(Looking at you, Canada).

Leopardprintonsie · 04/04/2023 23:15

The trans activists on twitter are outraged 🤣 major TERF finger pointing 😁
I might have a little snipe of prosecco to celebrate the progress!
Scotland you have given us hope over here in Ireland. The rest of the UK have the chance to stop this nonsense so don't waste a minute. Fight for your women's rights!

I’ll bank this and hope for more good news to come (please god) 👍

It really is excellent news & was stopped due to public outrage. Small steps. My local Fine Gael TD called today & I gave him hell. Firstly about introducing trans education in schools, my little girls & 80 year old mother forced to share their private spaces with men against their will, Barbie Kardashian, the GAA man on the women's team, the list was endless.
Told him the only compromise will be for the Trans to have designated third spaces, trans sports teams, trans changing rooms etc. I let him know they are not women with their penises.
He stood listening & chatting with me for over 40 minutes. He admitted many were voicing their concerns.
I let him know the Gender Recognition Act was the opposite of progressive, men taking over women's spaces is so neanderthal & primitive. They are dragging the country backwards not forwards letting men trample all over women's rights.

Fair play to ya!

Not easy to get a canvasser, let alone a TD, to listen to you and not give you boilerplate replies.

This area never sees canvassers 🤷‍♀️😫

Do you mean the Burkes? They were a gift for trans rights for a few months, but the effect is fading and people are starting to see the real issues.

Limerick prison and LGFA have provided the start of a counter narrative to useful Enoch.

I think the Burkes highlighted the support for trans people, and that people won't be told to think like that narrow mindset anymore. Most people are accepting of more progressive issues, but the country is in a state with housing and cost of living and trans issues are being dragged into similar culture wars stuff to distract from it as in the UK. Small groups whipping up anti refugee mobs as well. Lots of scapegoating. People on the whole don't fall for it but I don't think you'll find them gloating on Mumsnet.

50 years ago a lot of women were embroidering alter cloths and saying how great the nuns were to those ungrateful immoral wenches.

Nowadays you have women flying trans flags and saying how great progress is for those ungrateful selfish bitches.

The more things change.....

100%. Barbie Kardashian & GAA Giulia are the posterboys of trans in Ireland & their two images are enough to wake the country up.

It's so anti progressive isn't it. Trans people getting full access to women's spaces is dragging the country backwards. They need to either use the men's jack's, play men's sports, use mens changing rooms etc or else lobby for third spaces. These are men with penesis who have no business in women's areas. We don't want them.

And what a fine pair of poster girls you have to illustrate your points!

Leopardprintonsie · 05/04/2023 08:24

@Wonderingiforifnot trans women's trampling on women's rights is the opposite of progressive. Progressive would be creating a model like Thailand (where ladyboys are a recognised third sex) & Japan where they have three options male, female & gender neutral. Due to the recognition of a third sex men, women & trans coexist peacefully. Everyone has their space.

I believe many people here, the general feeling was they wanted to believe they were progressive & had left all the church stuff behind. Irish people are of course not some homogeneous mass with a hive mind.

There has been something akin to censorship with the Irish media not reporting on the effect of trans rights on women’s & children’s right.

When confronted with what progressive apparently means, Barbie, Guilia, School stuff they question it.

Even stuff the delectable Pissy is writing…friends who didn’t want to know Are scrutinising what he is saying.

@VaddaABeetch my local Fine Gael td was canvasing yesterday. My God I let him have it. I knew my shit & I was ready for him. Asked him if he knew the Countess organisation, he said he did & had attended talks regarding domestic violence. I told him the Countess need to be visiting all schools taking about women's rights.
Trans has no place in school's curriculums & that if they want parents should have access to notes to educate their child at home. They must not bypass parents & teach trans ideology to children.
Let him have it re the GAA & BK.
He admitted that quite a few people were voicing concerns.
