Boycott New Zealand

Let's hit the state sanctioned violence against women where it hurts - in their pockets.

Off the top of my head:

Wine - Oyster Bay, Villa Maria, the Ned, Wairau Cove, Brancott Eatate, Cloudy Bay
Lamb - check the label to make sure it's British
Manuka honey and ordinary honey - M&S stock quite a few.
Wool
Allbirds shoes
Canterbury clothing.

Have I missed anything?

Also write to the PM: [email protected]
Minister for trade: [email protected]

And tell them you're boycotting and why. There's no point if they don't know you're doing it!

@sashh well we have a Maori King but it’s not who pakeha call their king, no, that would be Charles. The women who first sung the anthem in Maori still cries today because of the way NZ reacted, with pure unadulterated hate.

I've visited NZ quite a few times, as I used to live in Oz. My impression is that all the "We acknowledge the traditional owners of this land" stuff that you now see in both countries is pure window-dressing. It allows people of European descent to tell themselves that they don't need to worry about the effects of colonialism any more. Meanwhile, in Australia anyway, indigenous communities are in worse and worse shape - it's just heartbreaking.

I once had a stand up row in A&E with a nurse who didn't want me to help a First Australian man whom she had tied to his trolley even though he had nearly stopped breathing. And yes, he had been lairy, but - guess what? - so were a lot of young white men in A&E, and we weren't tying them to trolleys and letting them die.

nilsmousehammer · 27/03/2023 09:04

'Rabid feminist coven'.

😁

Rabid? You mean wanting equality? Not to see elderly women beaten up? Things like that?

'Feminist' - no you're behind the times, love. The meaning of 'feminist' is now very confused, and women here have been declared 'not proper feminists' by different groups for varying reasons: the two main ones being as far as I can figure out: 'feminists are male centric and not nasty selfish women who want to consider women's rights', and 'feminists are only women who seek equality in the properly Left Wing Way having read the Right Authors and even then only the Right People from the left wing are allowed a voice'. Or something. It's hard to keep up. Anyway, many women no longer 'identify' as feminist because it's confusing and way too much about penises and politics as opposed to equality of access and inclusion and consideration with men. However those men identify.

'Coven'. Ooooh burn the witch eh? Look up ducking stools and scolds bridles, you'll love it! Misogyny's so fashionable at the moment, it's the new black.

You sound like a broken record

You sound like a racist misogynistic enabler. I sound like a broken record speaking about violence against women and girls and racism? I think you’ve stumbled onto the wrong board, this one actually cares about these issues.

If they don’t want to hear feminist views they can hide the board.

Keep posting.

Whaeanui · 27/03/2023 09:05

So you’ve all seen yet again, I’ve been back here a couple of days, another racist poster mock and say I have a chip while speaking about Maori land issues and violence. That’s the comment she responded to, a comment about a rich white man trying to prevent my iwi selling their land for housing.

FOJN · 27/03/2023 09:07

I don't even know where to start with this. I've been reliably informed by a poster here that this is a legitimate news channel but they seem absolutley batshit crazy in the propaganda they pump out.

Calls for Marama Davidson, co-leader of the Greens and violence prevention minister, to resign after she made statements about "white cis men" being the cause of violence in the world. The people calling for her resignation........ "white cis men".

She has now rowed back and said she made the comments when she was in a state of shock after being hit by a motorcyclist , who was part of a different protest on Saturday, Newshub links the motorcyclist to KJK and includes footage of her shameful treatment to reinforce the connection.

Utterly shameless.

Whaeanui · 27/03/2023 09:08

She has now rowed back and said she made the comments when she was in a state of shock after being hit by a motorcyclist

She and her friends have made the same type of comments before, they say loudly that colonisation brought violence. They’re denying the reality for thousands of Maori women. But nobody I know has any time for her anyway.

sashh · 27/03/2023 09:08

I was referring to Charles.

But that is interesting. I thought there would be some leader but I didn't realise you had a king.

To be honest most of my experience has been the white arrogant Kiwis who visit London and think that's all of the UK and Pat and Wilz on 'My Kitchen Rules'.

I've never wanted to visit because I find the accent annoying and the aforementioned arrogance but actually a tour of Maori culture is starting to appeal.

Obviously as a women I'm not planning it soon, but maybe in the future.

Whaeanui · 27/03/2023 09:10

I can’t believe on a feminist board someone just said I sound like a broken record as I comment with stats and info on violence against women. Jfc

MistyFrequencies · 27/03/2023 09:11

Please consider unintended consequences of your suggested boycott. Thankfully i dont believe a mumsnet boycott will really impact the NZ economy BUT if it were to, you would be harming women by your protest supposing to support them.
So many have been impacted by the devastation in the Hawkes Bay, boycotting NZ wine will just hurt those people more. And Ive worked on those vineyards; its predominantly poorer women out there bud rubbing (back breaking work) and pruning those vines.
Every product you suggest to boycott has a woman relying on it for income/livelihood. They are the people you will hurt.
And I know none of the women in my friends/family support what went on in Auckland. They are unapolagetic about their support of females and not one of them believes you can change sex.

MishyJDI · 27/03/2023 09:14

Bowlofporridge · 27/03/2023 01:56

NZ woman here. Currently feel very safe, thank you very much, as do all my female friends. Yes, we are urban, educated women, but from all sides of the political spectrum. Feel very proud that we stood by our transgender sisters, and can't help but laugh at how much this has caused the UK to froth: why are you so concerned about us? Focus on your own country, and the climate of fear in which you are living. We are absolutely fine, and proud to be leading the world in female rights again. Mumsnet does not represent the way the huge majority of my friends feel, and Posey Parker most definitely does not speak for me: the coloniser arrogance...

boycott away!

Ha absolutely! I don't think NZ actually want people with gender critical views and ill-tolerance to visit. Boycotting has limited effect. May just make their delicious wines and food cheaper for the rest of us who are inclusive of trans and gender diverse people.

oh can you stop speaking over a Maori woman on this board and acting like you know about nz women? Mana Wahine actually asked her to come, Maori women. So stop being racist and speaking over us.

DialSquare · 27/03/2023 09:17

I didn't have any particular plans to visit NZ before this. But I didn't have plans to NOT visit NZ either. Now I wouldn't go there if you paid me.

proud to be leading the world in female rights again

Everyone here has seen all the links and stats I’ve shared over the last few days showing clearly that is not the case. Nz leads the world in violence against women. Police don’t even arrest them anymore!

Whaeanui · 27/03/2023 09:19

@Alondra so you’ve just endorsed violence against a woman on the feminism board.

I got that impression from other media I've seen but I'm not really qualified to comment. My post was more about the absurd reporting.

Alondra · 27/03/2023 09:20

By the way, the woman that keeps talking about "freedom of speech" in her meetings, kept yelling for police protection when freedom of speech turned against her.

Fucking coward.

7Worfs · 27/03/2023 09:20

transgender sisters

😂😂😂
It’s always the ‘sisters’, isn’t it? The ‘brothers’ never get a mention, almost as if there is a pecking order on the other side of the rainbow too. 🤔

My 2p - how embarrassing for NZ - women are safer from violence in the streets of Dubai (or any other big city in the Middle East) than over there.

Your voice is being heard. Maybe not in NZ with certain groups (which makes the ‘coloniser’ posts look ridiculous) but we’re hearing you.

The violence was recorded and the footage is there for all to see.

Are you for 70 year olds being repeatedly punched in the face as you don’t seem to notice that part.

sashh · 27/03/2023 09:22

@MistyFrequencies

I understand your point but it has been used to keep people oppressed. It was used about South Africa and apartheid, American cotton and slavery.

Years ago I was sharing a house and we boycotted all French produce due to Nuclear testing in the pacific.

Afterwards we had to make a decision to continue as we had discovered cheese and wine from other places that was just as good. In the end we decided we would buy French produce again because they had stopped testing so it had achieved its goal.

Interested enough to regurgitate the lies your news media is telling you but not interested enough to find out anything about her?

Whaeanui · 27/03/2023 09:22

I don’t want to out myself or my friends but yes, I can assure you amongst Maori in government and outside it, she is known as an ineffective incompetent racist. She visited male sex offenders to talk about why they wanted to be in the female prisons instead.

How is posting sequentially on a board speaking over anyone? You do know that "speaking over" doesn't mean "disagreeing with", don't you?

No. People supporting this hateful woman are endorsing the extreme right politics she preaches. Her "anti trans" movement is a marketing ploy to sell her brand of politics.

She doesn't give a shit about women.
