Let’s move the general discussion about the New Zealand ‘Let Women Speak’ tour out of the thread set up to centre the women speaking at the Australian and New Zealand tours.

This was the live feed.

https://www.youtube.com/live/eDuy2Kx2HlI?feature=share

The event was over run by violent trans activists. Not only did they use the usual intimidation tactics, but also threw substances at Kellie Jay, the women and the security.

Their headline is offensive. She was assaulted. Not ‘juiced’. Bastards

This is on The Heralds YouTube, they’ve opened the comments which they don’t normally and it’s pretty glorious

Wow. Those comments are quite something.

Bring the sunlight.

MarshaBradyo · 25/03/2023 18:42

It does look horrific.

And women didn’t get to just speak.

Terrifying really

Whaeanui · 25/03/2023 18:42

Yes. I only just saw it and thought, oh god what will the comments be and was pleasantly surprised.

Well, if the footage gets shown people see what's going on.

Even if you go alone, we are a welcoming bunch. You'll find and make connections in no time.

Is a home else feeling inspired to be at the Speakers Corner Let Women Speak event at Speakers Corner in London on the 30th April now?

I have never attended one one of the events up to now. I don't really have anyone to go with as I am not openly GC due to a sensitive family situation and wouldn't take my own DC who are young teens, so if anyone wants company and strength in number please do PM me and let me know.

Sorry, this is what I was responding to.

OMG, that thread led me to an oldish tweet by Willy Bragg that I’ve never had the misfortune to see before, that basically (I paraphrase) ‘Women only won their rights at the expense of men’. Wow. I mean I did already know he was ever so slightly thick, but still surprising to see it writ large, by his own hand.

nilsmousehammer · 25/03/2023 19:44

I think he'll find that no one was asking men to accept exclusion and rape.

My contribution has always been clear and unwavering - because I’m old enough to have seen what happens when darkness grips the hearts and minds of people who should know better.

Hate is insidious because it is so seductive. It corrupts everything it touches.

Never a truer word spoken. All you need now is a mirror.

nilsmousehammer · 25/03/2023 20:00

Please do explain how wanting equality of access and inclusion for women is hate? How is the desire for equality 'darkness gripping the hearts of women'?

And how is this not drama worthy of Mr Murdstone and other Victorian religious nuts?

nilsmousehammer · 25/03/2023 20:01

Actually frankly, if having a problem with women being raped and excluded is 'my heart being gripped by darkness....'

Bring on the dark side.

Happylittlechicken · 25/03/2023 20:03

Hate is insidious because it is so seductive. It corrupts everything it touches.

I know right @landOFconfusion it leads to rape threats, death threats, assault, bullying of women, misogynistic behaviour, bomb threats, mobs refusing to let women speak. Have you thought about seeking therapy for your hate issues regarding women? I’ve heard it can help….

beastlyslumber · 25/03/2023 20:15

It's dark before the dawn
Despairing of the night
But women, we stay strong
The sun is going to rise

They come with words and weapons
Their fists are going to fly
But women won't be beaten
The sun is going to rise

And on that blessed morning
We'll stand strong and wise
Arms around our children
The sun is going to rise

Take heart, my fearless sisters
Keep watch with hopeful eyes
They're never going to beat us
The sun will always rise

This is so weird to read about. I'm in NZ, I'm a woman (born, if you really must know) and I don't feel at all silenced. Kiwi women speak all the damn time and we're proud of it. Just because you disagree with what happened yesterday (and I condemn any violence to either group), does not mean women here are silenced and terrified. We're not.

If you / Posie want to help Kiwi women, focus on our meth problem, growing gang violence, and staggering domestic abuse rates. I work in family law and we are absolutely overrun with cases involving poverty, abuse, violence, drug use and crime against women. That is where the focus for women should be. The trans issue - it's smalltime pony tricks compared to where the rapes and assaults are actually happening.

Also - seriously - what is with the evangelical crusades in the name of "free speech" sending every minor celebrity activist to our shores to "educate" us (ie speak for us)? We have our own speakers, thanks, and are more than capable of using our own voices.

beastlyslumber · 25/03/2023 20:19

You don't have any idea what you're talking about @Skydaze . Have some respect.

Can’t you focus on your own domestic issues you list?

Let women choose their own paths, if it’s not for you do your own campaigning.

Other women feel differently to you and wanted to join in.

Datun · 25/03/2023 20:23

Those were your own voices.

Who the hell do you think she was platforming there? She didn't take up a bunch of women from the UK with her!

The men screaming and shouting, punching, kicking, spitting and pouring cans of liquid, are doing it on 'your women'.

I IS their voices which are being silenced.

Skydaze · 25/03/2023 20:28

She didn't need to platform anyone. They are more than capable of holding their own events, of platforming themselves. Likely it would have gone ahead peacefully without her. Once people saw nazi salutes in Melbourne it was game over really. Like it or not, she has become a flashpoint and her presence was a detriment to the message. She shouldn't have come.

beastlyslumber · 25/03/2023 20:33

Victim blaming much?

What about the women who turned out to speak? Should they have stayed home and sat in silence too? What about the women who asked KJK to come? Their voices don't matter?

That's why she was there, with an amp for NZ women to speak with their own voices.

must be tolerated and chasing people off threads is not allowed.

Still trying to work out what this means. Anybody got a clue?

Skydaze · 25/03/2023 20:38

I would say there are far more effective ways of raising your voice and being heard than a soapbox in Albert Park with a known controversial speaker who has attracted support from white supremacists (whether Posie endorses that or not) and our version of the fundamentalist religious right aka Brian Tamaki & co.
