WOMEN SPEAKING - Let Women Speak - Australia & NZ tour

Despite many pleas, the original thread was hijacked by people (mostly from the UK) who displayed ZERO interest in watching, appreciating and discussing the ACTUAL SPEECHES:

Let Women SPeak - Australia & NZ tour

IMHO This was profoundly disrespectful to the OP, @ZombieMumEB, who said she hoped to attend some of the events, to Mumsnetters (particularly Australians and New Zealanders) who wanted to discuss the speeches and to the brave, articulate and impassioned women who gave the speeches.

This thread is to discuss the WOMEN SPEAKING.

Please direct complaints about KJK to one of the perennial "We hate Posie" threads.

If you are a UK socfem with a genuine interest in discussing the socfem approach to re-educating the Labour Party, ie. rather than complaining about KJK, start a new thread. This one is about and for the women in Australia and New Zealand who spoke at the #LetWomenSpeak events

Rather than engage with derailments, can we please agree to report them or ignore them?

Thank you for starting another thread and I’d like to echo your request that this thread be used to focus on women in Australia and New Zealand.

Thanks for the links, I haven't managed to watch all the live streams so I'm just catching up to see what I missed.

Thanks for this. Finding the Australian women to be brilliant speakers and really enjoying listening to them.

I'm part way through catching up on Sydney.

Thanks to Pearl for speaking. She has been treated appallingly but keeps on going, the young women trying (and failing) to drown her out will realise one day what she has done for them.

The police seemed to have managed that event better than many of the others.

Thanks for new thread.

I listened to the NZ radio programme. The host's tone oozed contempt in every syllable. Nonetheless Kellie was able to get her message across that #LetWomenSpeak is solely about letting any woman speak about issues which affect her and her family. Like, single sex spaces being eroded, children being medicalised and having their genitals butchered for life, and made sterile, and women's sports being destroyed when men are allowed to self id into them. She also pointed out that the slurs directed at her and women attending being nazis or sympathizers are disgusting. They are. Women are not responsible for anyone who comes near a #LetWomenSpeak event. We cannot say "you can't come" to a public space. No one can.

THANK YOU Bosky! Great intro to thread.
So pleased about the NZ judgement upholding freedom of speech.

Thank you, Bosky. That’s a great intro post and I would love to have a discussion focussed on the women and their speeches.

Thanks to everyone who has replied for the "thumbs up" for the proposal ✌(couldn't find a "thumbs up" emoji!)

To make this work we need volunteers to divvy up the work of listing the speakers for each event.

Even if you know the name of a speaker, other people might not, so please give a visual clue as well her name or other clue plus a rough idea of the topic(s).

I am going to make this up now, to make it perfectly clear that I am not attempting to describe any particular event:

Ozzyville
(link to live stream)

1 Intro (KJK)
2 (Pseudonym / Name if public) - Grandma - Green Dress - Topic(s)
3 (same sort of pattern)
4 KJK - Topic(s)
5 etc

Don't bother to list every time KJK takes the mic and has a mini-rant about the protester-pillocks, only include KJK if there is an actual topic.

Avoid descriptions that are too general, like "hat + sunglasses", because that's most speakers.

Remember to name the location and include a link to the live stream.

Now, who is going to take on a location and do a list of speakers? Volunteers please 👋

Post first saying you are going to do it before you actually do it otherwise we might end up duplicating the effort.

The sooner this gets done, the sooner we can get started.

On your marks . . . get set . . . GO!

Brilliant idea for a thread @Bosky, I really want to know about what the women who speak at these events are saying and I’m fed up of their contributions being drowned out and overshadowed by the protesters, and ignored by journalists.

The protesters, in trying to shut it down or drown it out, are completely proving that the name of "Let Women Speak" is spot on.

This NZ radio host interviewed KJK the other day and actually let her speak and listened. He's also interviewed a NZ feminist writer and a representative of the Jewish Council of NZ. They don't think she's a nazi.

Anyway, he's written and broadcast an Ode to Posie Parker Grin

For anyone who missed it on the last thread, here is the link to the interview PP did with Kim Hill on New Zealand's national morning radio show. Hill was amazingly rude but PP held her own well, I thought.

https://www.rnz.co.nz/national/programmes/morningreport/audio/2018882622/anti-trans-activist-rally-organiser-defends-events

I cannot get over how condescending that NZ radio host was during that interview - she could have made her points less aggressively and it would have been better if she’d actually allowed the local NZ rep from LWS to speak for more than a sentence or two at a time. I’m not sure the details of any issue are adequately addressed or investigated when journalists conduct interviews in that brusque manner.

Kim Hill is always rude. Honestly I’m glad our gross media is being exposed internationally for who and what they are- NZ Herald in particular 🤮🤮🤮 they have a columnist who called Polynesians leeches! Buckle up guys, you are going to be shocked at how bad they are still… I hope Rex helps out with security!

@Bosky thanks for this thread and great OP.

Hoping to have time later tonight to take advantage.

Also to all the women who have attended events in Australia and New Zealand and are intending to attend, it's been really powerful.

And hopefull the recordings can be shared to inspire women to think that they can speak out and do have a right to do so.

Women are not responsible for anyone who comes near a #LetWomenSpeak event. We cannot say "you can't come" to a public space. No one can.

You know this is an excuse - you can't stop them coming no, but it's easy to say "you are not welcome at our events and we don't need your support". any sane person would do that, anyone saying they shouldn't have to, or that it won't be effective, or that it's not KJK's fault etc... is just being disingenous. This is a distraction from what is clearly a very easy, simple request - unless of course, it's not easy because you actually aren't averse/ opposed to a fascist presence/ support.

Of course it's not KJK's fault - but this kind of denouncement (specific, clear) is something almost anyone would and can easily say. Unless you want to court the attention/ support of these people.

Of course this can't stop them coming but for the sake of clearing up speculation and making it very clear that they are not welcome - why would you not say something so easy?

Also not doing this will definitely put off a lot of Black, Brown and Jewish women - many have raised concerns, will you really ignore them? Women who are not lib fem or even socialist fem just women, who this has put off. I thought the whole premise was let women speak, well these women don't want to speak at an event where the main speaker/ host won't specifically tell Nazis they aren't welcome.
