As will all these media reports of KJK comments are turned off. Wonder why. No I don't.

You couldn't make it up - except mainstream Aus and NZ media are.

The herald have posted this stupid article this morning:

Thanks for posting that and for the rest of your informative post. I wish you well with your complaint. Can you convince anyone else to complain?

Slothtoes · 25/03/2023 03:32

Fantastic letter Whaeanui

EndlessTea · 25/03/2023 07:47

I am catching up with the thread @Whaeanui and your posts have such an urgency of untold stories brimming through them. It makes me realise how urgent and how important it is to let NZ women speak. It’s a travesty that the police, the media and the mob are colluding to prevent women from speaking or being heard.

Whaeanui · 25/03/2023 07:54

@EndlessTea thank you. Stuff NZ recently apologised for how they treated Maori activists in the past. They’ll have to do the same for women one day.

I just knew it would happen like this. Before the Nazis. It’s what NZ is.

@IcakethereforeIam thank you. Oh this board always has been a source of light hearted mess amongst the frustrations, I always read it even when not a member. Yes my friend transed her very small young sweet female child, who was taken from her at a young age, came back in her teens only to be left alone in her mums communal living house arrangement with all kinds of strangers while mum was at work, she was 13 & 14. She’s always I think tried to impress her very alternative successful mum who never had time for her. I was not surprised when I heard she was trans. Puberty blockers were easy to get. Theyre still so petite I actually worry about them around boys.

( I don’t know about rules around pronouns atm, I used female for when she was happily a girl and they for post trans MN Mods! )

Oh that sounds so sad about your friends kid @Whaeanui I hope they come through it OK in the end.

NZ sounds a bit scary right now. But perhaps the government will be sensitive to a bit of international condemnation of thuggish counter protesters.

Of course that's a double edged sword : world opinion is all our Irish government seems to crave. In our case it's a desperate need to be seen as a liberal progressive poster boy of Europe. Trying to blot out our Catholic heritage - at any cost.

EndlessTea · 25/03/2023 08:01

I’m so shocked. I had a false impression of NZ and this has changed my view. I can now understand how they had a man representing women in the Olympics and decriminalised the pimping and sexual exploitation of women and girls. My eyes have been opened.

Slothtoes · 25/03/2023 08:04

Same here EndlessTea

Whaeanui · 25/03/2023 08:04

Let me put it this way. I left NZ because I thought the UK would be a better place to raise girls, and we stayed over 20 years now. It’s also less racist. That’s how bad NZ is.

Whaeanui · 25/03/2023 08:06

You should look up sentencing for violent crime. Even sexual crimes get light sentencing. You actually get time off, even murder, for a hard childhood. We have to sympathise with the men who beat and rape us because they had a hard time growing up.

I had that rosy tinted view about Canada for years.
Thought it was like the USA 🇺🇸 but without the bad bits. Imagined NZ to be a kinder version of Oz.

EndlessTea · 25/03/2023 08:40

Yes. It turns out that it is backwardsness draped in the appearance of being progressive. Everything that Whaeanui is saying about how the society is weighted against women - you can see how the progress flag and the pronouns are such a gift.

beastlyslumber · 25/03/2023 08:53

It's like how some people see Scotland, isn't it? As a progressive country, bastion of human rights etc. I have so many conversations with people who want to move up here from England, having no idea how bad things are for women.

Whaeanui · 25/03/2023 09:01

NZ is very like Canada. Probably most similar too. Very very different culture to UK. NZ is such a small place. They are defensive when criticised, very lacking in self awareness of their own country. Don’t like any negative things said about NZ. It’s a head in the sand kinda place

But they do love people from England.

beastlyslumber · 25/03/2023 09:06

LOL that all depends!

IcakethereforeIam · 25/03/2023 09:12

I heard NZers described as having a chip on each shoulder. I hope all your family/friends are safe. I couldn't sleep last night and I'm in England! The masks have come off some of the 'oh so concerned posters', some we 'so ashamed' when an Australian politician put herself on her arse, we were minimising violence against women, now shown up as the massive hypocrites we knew they were.

CryptoFascistMadameCholet · 25/03/2023 09:51

@Whaeanui nice to see you back!

EndlessTea · 25/03/2023 09:56

I don’t want to make sweeping statements - there are all sorts in every country. But there does seem to be a correlation between countries which get royally peeved by being mistaken for their more densely populated/larger/more globally dominant neighbour, and an attraction towards ‘looking progressive’ or ‘getting one step ahead’ of that neighbour.

It seems that the resentment of perceiving oneself as the invisible underdog can stew and turn into a lack of self-awareness and generalised contempt.

Its a bit like the individual level- that bloke inciting violence by saying how afraid he was, obviously thinking “look at me, effeminate, camp and skinny - such a victim - I couldn’t hurt a fly and just want to live my life as ‘me’. ”, without realising he can be recognised the next day as a bully in his selfie, gloating in the bandstand where women were supposed to be speaking.

Same. It's been really interesting to hear from Whaeanui to find out the reality in NZ.

And agree with pp about Scotland. The veneer about how 'progressive' we are up here has been ripped off. It's the same old women hating, just under a new guise.
