He also appeared to aim a dig at MSPs who passed the legislation: “What’s happened in Scotland is a reminder that if you want change, you have to carry the public with you.”
He also said: “Gender recognition will not be one of the priorities of the incoming government.”
Interesting. Are they finally beginning to read the room...?
Feminism: Sex and gender discussions
Starmer: “Gender recognition will not be one of the priorities of the incoming government.”

For me Kier Starmmer needs to state clearly that he believes that he will not adopt any new gender identity bill. I believe that the legislation has already gone too far in the UK but accept what is in place - any further I feel present a danger to young people in particular

It's over, they didn't manage to change the laws as Debtons suggested.

Well that's going to piss the women haters off.
I'm sorry but I don't believe him. He said that it is not true that only women have a cervix. If he can lie about that why should I believe a single other word that comes out of the man's mouth?
RobinRobinMouse · 17/03/2023 16:37
The Tories will say anything at this point as they are desperate to pretend they care, in reality it is likely to be more lies. As usual.
TheWordWomanIsTaken · 17/03/2023 17:37
About the only thing that Starmer could say at this point that would make me vote Labour would be that he will look at repealing the GRA
Florissant · 18/03/2023 10:19
So you're prepared to enable the reelection of Rees - Mogg?
Whatabouttery. My favourite logical fallacy.

Talk is cheap. Let's see Labour repeal the GRC and then maybe I'll start to believe them.

And the insistence that women should not put their own rights before any other consideration. Impossible to imagine this being said to any other group, "Black people, you must vote for an avowed racist because it's your duty to keep the Tories out".

More like he's hoping it will just be dropped as a topic during elections when they're trying to win people over. I don't trust them at all on this issue. They're going to have to make their policies and intentions VERY clear before I'd ever consider voting for them again. Tbh I haven't voted for them since Blair lied about introducing fees for uni in 98(?), I keep grudges a looooong time.
Madamecastafiore · 18/03/2023 12:02
It doesn't matter if it's a priority or not, if it's item number 50 in his list of things that are important it doesn't mean it's not going to happen x

This thread came up in Active which is the only reason I posted on it. If I'd seen which forum it was in I probably wouldn't have bothered.
I remain grateful to the one poster who was prepared to engage in constructive and civil discourse with me, even though she disagreed.

It’s clear how Labour view the rights of women
Imagine ‘rights hoarding dinosaurs’ being lobbed at any minority
After it took us so long to win our rights, just to be scoffed at and diminished

Sir Keir Starmer warned that party needs to clarify its policies to be closer to the public’s views on the debate"
