He also appeared to aim a dig at MSPs who passed the legislation: “What’s happened in Scotland is a reminder that if you want change, you have to carry the public with you.”
He also said: “Gender recognition will not be one of the priorities of the incoming government.”

Interesting. Are they finally beginning to read the room...?

@EpicChaos you got a bit further than me, I got blocked while she was being self deprecating about her Yorkshire puddings (possibly with a tinkly laugh, she's so relatable Hmm).

I caught a glimpse of a headline about gender dysphoria being this years anorexia, today's date.....anybody? Might be one for a new thread?

Annelise Dodd's article about politicians overlooking women has not been received well by Telegraph readers. The comments are almost 100% full on terf! 😂

Loving the comments. 🤭

Yes, thank you Mrs O. I'm going to try the archive witchcraft and see if I can read it tomo later today.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 19/03/2023 00:04

Tbh, the telegraph looks a bit like FWR today. They're also "showcasing" the spectacularly creepy drag queen Aida's "safeguarding fail" and his porn posts (didn't mention him fundraising for his paedophile mate) :

I don't think i got much further @IcakethereforeIam which i'm really rather counting as a blessing, to be fair, lol :D
It's the comments i'm more interested in, i just hope...
a) that she's absolutely raked over the coals.
b) that she reads them all.

The comments are fantastic. Happy Mother's Day to me, I thought as I scrolled through. Special thanks to "GF MAD", who's clearly got a book on the lot of them!

Those comments are glorious.

Obviously, it's the bloody Torygraph so I'd expect them to skew TERFy, but still...

Are we starting to get somewhere finally?

Has anyone mentioned this?
www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11877789/Labour-clarify-policy-transgender-issues-win-election-Starmer-told.html

someone is briefing - hard to tell whether it’s coming from within Keir’s camp or from outside. If from the outside, someone is pressing their advantage to put pressure on leadership - if from the inside, it’s laying the ground for KS to say ‘look I’m just responding in a rational manner to what my MPs are telling me about voters’ views.’?

Sadly, I couldn't get as far as the comments, @MrsOvertonsWindow i didn't even get as far as finding out if the poor old soul only got a proper dinner on Mothers Day, or if it was the only day of the year that she saw her grans.
Either way, i don't much care, this is her that said...
" We will not rest until women and girls are safe at home, in the street, at school, colleges and university, in the workplace and online. " .
and yet, she's part of a shadow cabinet of a party that seeks to allow males into the very places where women ought to be able to seek sanctuary, with a party leader that thinks men can grow womens parts.
If she has any terfy qualities, then they are very well hidden and she is far too much of a coward to stand with Rosie D.
Anything any of them say is far too little, far too late, they've already done the damage.

They need to issue a huge apology as do WPUK for the statement today, they are all a disgrace.

anyolddinosaur · 19/03/2023 12:55

No Labour politician is going to care greatly about comments from Torygraph readers. So it's as well for those who would never vote for this shambles of a government to keep repeating loudly I can not vote for Labour until you speak out for womens rights. I do know what a woman is. it's not just anyone wearing a pretty frock and I can see through politician doublespeak. Also - I am not currently a Labour Party member (SNP is not the only party that has lost women) but even when not a member I've usually coughed up some cash for elections. That wont happen for the next election as I'd rather donate to Glinner or anyone else being hounded.

I expect to be spoiling my ballot paper again and hopefully persuading my husband (also a never vote for the Tories voter) to do the same.

You are right but many Telegraph readers must also be former Labour voters and members like I am. The Telegraph was one of the first papers to decide to consider women and children in all the genderwoo. They also criticise the SNP a lot unlike the rest of the press.
Also the Labour party needs to encourage people who voted Tory last time to switch to them. Insulting them as Tory scum is not a good strategy.

Labour are going to have to face up to the fact that if they want to be elected into government they are going to have to care. They are not going to win an election by appealing to a small group of the properly pure. This is how they lost the red wall. A party goes into power to represent the people, not to exercise its personal hobby horses. The left lost the plot on this during the Blair years, summarised by Mandelson when he talked about a 'post democratic era' where voters didn't need to bother their little stupid heads, their betters would not need democracy but would do unto voters in the way that they knew best.

The trouble with spoiling papers is that this time, it will just mean a voter washing their hands of what happens. I'm a floating voter, and when the time comes will vote tactically to keep the most dangerous to women rep out of power.

LexMitior · 19/03/2023 14:01

The Labour Party are going to stop engaging with this issue as it is electoral poison to those voters they need.

The young people who claim to be very engaged with it don't vote. So real politics means looking at what gets a vote. Transgenderism is currently a vote loser. The next election won't change that and Labour will maintain those hard line policies put in by the Conservatives.

Starmer likes winning. So a politician after all.

ResisterRex · 19/03/2023 14:16

That's me too!

The Telegraph was one of the first papers to decide to consider women and children in all the genderwoo.

This is why I subscribe. Plus they covered lockdown decisions being made in a way that others weren't (ie with critical thinking). The Times was too timid on lockdowns for my liking.

Also the Labour party needs to encourage people who voted Tory last time to switch to them. Insulting them as Tory scum is not a good strategy.

Blair understood this. We've never gone for a socialist or proper left-wing government in this country. You have to appeal to the middle ground.

Don't know if this article has already been posted...

PorcelinaV · 19/03/2023 17:07

From the link just given:

"Labour must fix its stance on transgender issues to win the next election, Sir Keir Starmer has been told.

Senior figures within the party believe there is a need to clarify its policies on the issue and bring them closer in line with where the public is.

Nicola Sturgeon’s approach to transgender rights - which has been blamed for not only costing her SNP support but also a mass exodus of more than 40 per cent of party members - has crystallised the importance of the issue, according to Labour insiders."

southbiscay · 19/03/2023 18:11

I think it's as far as he can go right now strategically. I also think he has seen the writing on the wall very starkly in the wake of what happened in Scotland. Up until then, Labour likely thought that they had more to lose by pissing off the TRAs rather than pissing off women (and a few years ago that might have been true). They have observed the politically similar SNP haemorrhage members over gender and at the same time they know that their resurgence depends on lots of previously-Labour working class people who won't have any truck with this gender nonsense and have shown they are also prepared to vote for Tories.

The litmus test will be if more messaging comes out. Starmer knows he will not get through an election campaign without this being an issue that he has to respond to. He knows he can't fudge it any more.

I am cautiously hopeful especially as I expect the public awareness of this issue to continue to grow.

teawamutu · 19/03/2023 18:22

Most people don't care, they said.

It's just a fringe issue, they said.

Only a few old bigots who'll die off soon anyway would disagree, they said...

RhymesWithOrange · 19/03/2023 19:03

I am like a lot of women. I want to vote Labour but I can't stomach their TWAW position.

I stopped reading the guardian for the same reason. I disagree with 99% of The Telegraph but will read the articles that call out the harm that gender ideology is causing.

Labour will ignore women at its own peril.

SmartHome · 19/03/2023 19:15

As above. And I'm finding the weaselly reverse feretting in preparation for an election just as unappealing I think. I've voted Labour in every election since I was old enough to vote and I'm now their target mid age suburban woman demographic. But I won't be this time.

I made myself a promise a couple of years ago at the height of the 'we won't say what a woman is/cervix havers/TWAW' party line when they threw women under the bus for woke points that I would vote with my feet and show my disapproval when the time finally came. And nothing I'm seeing changes that.

In fact it makes me more determined because it's just so weasally and self serving because they've finally noticed how pissed off women are with them and have finally detected what we've all known for a long time - that the vast majority of people don't believe TWAW and resent women's spaces and rights being sacrificed for a small minority of people from troubled backgrounds.

Not that any other party appeals on this front. I probably won't vote this time, which is a terrible state of affairs.
