He also appeared to aim a dig at MSPs who passed the legislation: “What’s happened in Scotland is a reminder that if you want change, you have to carry the public with you.”
He also said: “Gender recognition will not be one of the priorities of the incoming government.”
Interesting. Are they finally beginning to read the room...?

More like he's hoping it will just be dropped as a topic during elections when they're trying to win people over. I don't trust them at all on this issue. They're going to have to make their policies and intentions VERY clear before I'd ever consider voting for them again. Tbh I haven't voted for them since Blair lied about introducing fees for uni in 98(?), I keep grudges a looooong time.

“Gender recognition will not be one of the priorities of the incoming government.”
What does that mean for other issues relating to gender ideology - in schools, hospitals, the civil service , the police force.
Is that going to a one of his priorities, or it he just going to carry pretending there're no issues?
If he thinks he can stop talking about modernisation of GRA, and the problems are solved, he really is clueless.

Keir Starmer claims the SNPNP is “falling apart”^
That can be evidenced via their plummeting membership numbers:
SNP says its membership has fallen to 72,000 www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-64976104
and has “lurched to the right” during its divisive leadership contest.
The Labourur leader urged “progressive” voters to come back to Labour as candidates squabbled over abortion and gay marriage^
Not sure it's "lurched to the right". Forbes - who this is presumably aimed at - has, as this board knows, not lied about her beliefs. But she has - correctly - said she would lead everyone if elected.
He mentions more areas for devolution. In the absence of a second chamber that would be disastrous IMHO. Both in Wales and Scotland. Surely the one thing that's obvious from the countries where gender identity ideology has infiltrated power structures, is the value of a second chamber, unencumbered by chasing votes.
He says gender recognition wouldn't be a priority. He needs to disown his Penis News video and clearly and unequivocally walk away from self-ID. Nothing less is going to start to cut it.

It's not good enough for me.
The Conservatives have no plans for further GRA reform and we are still having to fight tooth and nail for women's rights to single sex spaces and for safeguarding of women and children, can you imagine how much worse things would be with a party sympathetic to gender ideology?
No thank you.

He also said: “Gender recognition will not be one of the priorities of the incoming government.”
Isn't that the same as "we have no plans to do XXX" i.e. "we are not going to do it in the next five minutes but we're making no promises beyond that."
Exactly. Keir doesn't seem to credit voters with much intelligence. Both the pro-Self ID lobby and the GC one will rightly understand this as him leaving himself free to do whatever he wants, once in power. So it will reassure no one.

Yes, but I still can't see this statement that gender identity isn't front and centre of their priorities going down well with Labour misogynists both in Parliament and in the wider membership, Owen Jones etc. Particularly the ones who loathe Starmer. Interested to see their reaction.

If he’s changed his mind on this he should be open and say that he’s changed his mind.
Thelnebriati · 17/03/2023 11:40
Again, I don't trust this statement, its too woolly. It could mean they will continue to turn a blind eye while the Civil Service, MOJ, schools and the NHS carry on acting like a wrecking ball.
What I need the next government to do is strengthen the legal protections women have already fought for, and roll back the encroachment on sex based rights and safeguarding. No excuses and no exceptions.
Trans people can have third spaces.

No. It's saying it's not a priority, which seems fair enough to me. There are more important things to address.
Helleofabore · 17/03/2023 12:02
That is a rather ambiguous quote and the interviewer needed to clarify it.
"He also appeared to aim a dig at MSPs who passed the legislation: “What’s happened in Scotland is a reminder that if you want change, you have to carry the public with you.”"
"He also said: “Gender recognition will not be one of the priorities of the incoming government.”"
Does he mean incoming government as in the new leadership of the SNP?
Because he is a very long way to have such confidence of stating that he is going to be the next Westminster 'incoming government'.
Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/03/2023 12:05
I don't think he can state what the priorities of the new SNP leader will be either, we don't even know who it's going to be and they are very different. So I imagine he does mean Westminster, agree it's very complacent and presumptuous if he's talking about himself being elected!
Dinopawus · 17/03/2023 12:11
I also don't think the Scottish electorate has suddenly lurched to the right.
It's just that having a left-learning view on the economy, public services and taxation doesn't automatically translate to supporting self-identification.
Any politician who thinks they know better than their populace is a fool.
