Women's rights general conversations - Thread 4

Continuation of Thread 3.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions, grr"- that sort of thing).

IIRC, we have seen this thread before many times, both on MN FWR and in the Old Place. But it's so good that I feel it deserves to be reposted every so often:

Cripes, Tebbit, Widdicombe and Moynihan had all the arguments 20 years ago.

Arf! Remind me, when do the kids go back to school?

I have a wonderful scenario in my head beginning along the lines of "We need a DNA sample - could you just touch this door-handle please?" and ending with "That's a fine little boy you have there, Mr Smith. I hope the birth wasn't too traumatic."

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 06/04/2023 11:34

Are the kids always this agitated and full of questions? I don't remember it at Christmas but I was still so new I might not have noticed.

I posted this on the other thread, but works here too:

I suppose many of The Righteous imagine that the vipers of MN are mumsy middle-aged dimbos who only know about prams and laundry, and barely have a single GCSE in Biology to rub together.

New to me, the stuff abut same-sex weddings. But interesting.

Thanks for that, an amazing but depressing thread. I wonder what the likes of Lord Tebbit think of the situation today. And shame on David Lammy, he heard all the arguments 20 years ago and still pretends not to understand.

duc748 · 07/04/2023 00:32

Agreed, @MissPollysFitDolly . It's just so fucking dishonest, the reaction of most politicians.

I came across prelest elsewhere recently and one of the joys of it is that according to one of the Russian Orthodox saints it's the default state of all people. Actually I think he said "men", but presumably in the inclusive sense of "mankind".

It reminds me very much of the Yorkshire saying which I don't have off pat, but someone will correct me: it's along the lines of "everyone's mad but thee and me and I'm not so sure about thee".

'There's nowt so queer as folk, except for me and thee - and even thee's a little queer.'

For those blocked by Women's March.

Did they mean to be so rude to their fellow women? 😂

dcbc1234 · 07/04/2023 19:13

I take it they are those misguided 'inclusive feminists'?

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 07/04/2023 20:33

Indeed. Inclusive, but not including women.

They only want to be rude to the old-fashioned wrong type of women!

The Economist covering the issue (but I suspect in TRSOH dossier they count as Bad Media). The discussion on the thread looks like it is shaping up to be a good one, although I'm not sure whether the thread will be allowed to stand (due to screenshots of the article). I think I shall show my support by purchasing a physical copy of The Economist this week:

That's so interesting. It's quite bizarre to watch the inevitable, predicted consequences of this lunacy just roll out.
