You guessed it… “birthing people”

Morning telly, right there 🤢

And how do we know who has sperm and who has a uterus?

A fairly reliable rule would be, if you were born with a penis you very likely produce sperm, if you were born with a vagina you very likely have eggs.

How do I know I have eggs? I thought men or women could have vaginas?

ResisterRex · 09/03/2023 10:10

I’m hoping you mean younger child, in this day and age I’d very much hope the vast majority of teenagers already know!

You'd hope. But actually no, not in some cases where faith schools have removed children from sex education. I'd be surprised if the current statutory guidance isn't a part of this problem, since it covers things that are not in the law (gender identity) and is in places so vague that we've seen a plethora of problems as per this week's PMQs.

Sorry, I should have said if you were born with a vagina you probably have a uterus (though in very rare cases you may not).

ArabellaScott · 09/03/2023 10:11

But if genitals are not to do with 'man' or 'woman' or 'boy' or 'girl' then your definition is meaningless, aseriesofstillimages.

DemiColon · 09/03/2023 10:11

I think "birthing people" is a silly addition, but I suspect that as gender ideology wanes, it will just fade away.

aseriesofstillimages · 09/03/2023 10:07

In the body of a person with a uterus, who almost certainly has XX chromosomes, and who can identify as a woman, man or other.

But who's sex is female. Call yourself what you like, but when you're teaching biology, leave the "identify as" crap out. It's irrelevant.

Are you just suggesting we describe children as 'penis people' and 'vagina people' instead of boys and girls?

PaleBlueMoonlight · 09/03/2023 10:13

So the shorthand would be penis-people and vulva-people rather than boy and girl?

ArabellaScott · 09/03/2023 10:13

I think that's where we're at.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/03/2023 10:15

I'm done with pandering. People have all sorts of odd mental hang ups. They can often be handled with sensitivity, but they do not and should not affect the enormous majority of others.

It's akin to someone with an extreme aversion to the word 'strawberry' meaning that every supermarket in the UK stops stocking strawberries and rebrands them as 'red soft fruit'.

This.

aseriesofstillimages · 09/03/2023 10:16

I have to start work but I’ll be back

ArabellaScott · 09/03/2023 10:17

Great, thanks for engaging. Look forward to discussing more.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/03/2023 10:18

A fairly reliable rule would be, if you were born with a penis you very likely produce sperm, if you were born with a vagina you very likely have eggs.

Why is this a reliable rule? What are you saying?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/03/2023 10:20

Sorry, I should have said if you were born with a vagina you probably have a uterus

Why is that? Why do those two things "probably" go together?

BellaAmorosa · 09/03/2023 10:22

Women are people. Men are also people. Men cannot give birth. Why pretend there is any blurring of the line?
Would you be happy with education guidance that referred to "any animal who can speak"? After all, not every single human being can speak.
Or how about "people and animals who can speak" so that the catgender folx do not feel excluded? Why does inclusive or additive language never take catgenders into account? (Rages at sky, shakes fist.)

I had my first “pregnant people” in a meeting talking about vaccinations. Absolutely bloody ridiculous

NotBadConsidering · 09/03/2023 10:31

My 3rd form English teacher at school gave a valuable piece of advice that has stuck: never use a long word when a short word will do.

I’m fairly sure you can paraphrase that piece of advice by saying never use the phrased definition of a noun as the noun itself, when a perfectly good, short noun exists.

Floisme · 09/03/2023 10:41

Grin
It does make me laugh that you're tripping yourself up with your own solution aseriesofstillimages

Just say woman

ArabellaScott · 09/03/2023 10:42

It is concerning what will happen to teen pregnancy rates for children who've been taught that sex is changeable and optional and arbitrary.

nilsmousehammer · 09/03/2023 10:44

Why are we avoiding stating plain fact and truth for females re female only healthcare?

Because males get upset that it reminds them that they are not in fact female.

Its time they got over this. Females cannot be bent into endlessly weirder shapes in the name of stroking male egos, and male people have a job to do a bit of bloody reciprocation in all this kindness and consideration.

BellaAmorosa · 09/03/2023 10:45

It's not even the phrased definition of the noun, unfortunately. That would be "adult human female".

ArabellaScott · 09/03/2023 10:48

You may have dysphoria, you may not conform to gender stereotypes.

You remain the sex you were born and always will.

If someone needs help coming to terms with reality, then let's offer them that support instead of trying to pretend we can bend reality around them.

Only women give birth. I do not accept any other language or attachment to that word.

Amen
