Well, this is a bit special:

A BBC documentary has sparked outrage after a sex therapist suggested men who have a fetish about sex with unconscious partners should be able to pay women to be drugged

www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-11831307/We-Need-Talk-Bill-Cosby-Sex-therapist-calls-women-drugged-money.html

Is it me or is the world getting madder?

What is worrying to me is the degree in which, in name of inclusivity, we allowed people from fringe groups to take over discussion about what family, gender and sexual relationships are for majority of population. Looking at her website & social media it is obvious she has nothing but contempt for people choosing 'heteronormative' relationships, and somehow BBC gives her platform to discuss it. No, I am effing not interested in what a butch queer non binary has to say about heterosexual relationships and I will never be.

Nailed it.

Right wing? Are you saying only right wingers would be outraged by the idea of women being raped (which is what this is).

Horrible film made in 2011 about this very thing.

It's not new

I think it was more “this is attention-seeking clickbait” they were agreeing with…

Sassyfox · 08/03/2023 12:40

Why not just get a sex doll FFS.

I can’t think of anything worse than someone lying there not reciprocating or initiating anything.

This is basically men who want to rape and carry out any fantasies they wish no matter how sick or twisted or painful it may be but want ‘consent’ to do so.

We’ve gone from understanding consent and how if someone is intoxicated they cannot consent, to drugging them just for sexual purposes and that being consensual.

I actually think even the majority of men would agree that this is wrong.

Shelefttheweb · 08/03/2023 12:43

What next?

Once you’ve fulfilled your fantasy of sex with an unconscious woman, what next? Do people really think that would be the end of it?

inigomontoyahwillcox · 08/03/2023 12:47

For fuck's sake - it should be entered into law that anyone who is offering someone else (and let's face it, the "someone else" is almost always a woman) money for use of their bodies in any way should be done for coercive control - women who are financially vulnerable would be the ones who take up this "generous"'offer.

And I don't include just this, but prostitution, surrogacy etc.

Women's bodies are not a commodity.

EsmaCannonball · 08/03/2023 13:04

I wasn't arguing that only right-wing people care about rape, I was arguing that one can see from this person's website that individuals and organisations will financially support anything as long as it goads the right. They don't actually care about how damaging, crazy or just plain valueless this person's contributions are, the whole point is to provoke a reaction and then shout 'bigot' at everyone who reacted.

I watched the documentary. That's not quite what she said. Daily Mail strikes again.

LexMitior · 08/03/2023 13:08

Said with the clear knowledge it is something she would never entertain for herself - a useless, abuse enabler.

There’s also the small matter of safe sedation. If you are sedated to the point of unconsciousness there is a high chance of stopping breathing or obstructing your airway, which is why we have anaesthetists present when you have an anaesthetic, and a second person present to monitor the airway for conscious sedation procedures.

But no, let’s just drug prostitutes with no safeguards whatsoever, and if they die during sex, well they consented and it’s just some slut so who cares?

I am pretty sure this was the plotline for an episode of a US police/detective show some years ago.

The episode was about two men who had this fetish for having sex with their wives while they were unconscious, and the wives consented to it, but something went wrong. I can't remember whether one of the women died while drugged, or they partner-swapped without the women knowing, or something like that.

Could have been Castle, thinking about it. Or The Mentalist. It wasn't a hard cop show.

Ourladycheesusedatum · 08/03/2023 09:54

Nope, pretty sure we cant consent to this. No one can surely. Once you're unconscious then any consent you gave is null and void.

And can you imagine making them stick to whatever you "consented" to.
That would require an onlooker or camera running, neither of which should happen.

Jesus and an actual woman said this? My God she needs some serious help.

This.

This woman needs her license revoking. She is encouraging criminal acts.

What happens once the man decides drugged sex isn't doing it for him and this time he wants to kill the woman?

Lilifer · 08/03/2023 13:26

Datun · 08/03/2023 10:02

and certainly musings of this kind should not be presented uncritically on the BBC

This.

There are always going to be wackos advocating on behalf of some men's endless, and totally illegal, perversions, but to give it even a hint of legitimacy by hosting a 'discussion' on it?

They should be ashamed. And the whole country should be asking which person, specifically, signed off on it.

Time to cancel my licence 🥲

Having watched it, can you explain what she actually did say?

is she not advocating for women to consent to unconscious sex?

BoredOfThisMansWorld · 08/03/2023 13:41

Apologies if this has already been said, but I'm so sick of the phrase "sex positive" being synonymous with misogynist sex. I'm extremely fucking positive about sex thanks v much. It's fun and also free. But having tried a fair amount of it, i can conclude that sex with misogynist men isn't usually especially "positive". And why is requiring bells and whistles and dodgy power dynamics to get aroused seen as more "positive" than simply being attracted by a naked body or the act of consensually shagging?

I think it was an older episode of Law & Order. Season 8 or 9 in the Lenny Briscoe days.

That's weird because there is a clip on YouTube and which is embedded within the DM article and what she says is exactly as Bernard quoted. Are you saying the video's been doctored? Confused

I'm not the original poster but it's in episode 4, starting at 31 mins 20 secs.

Transcription based on the sub-titles:
"If we actually grappled with the fact that sex-negativity is what causes this type of behaviour, then we could create a world where, in an idyllically sex-positive world, someone is able to pay conscious women to come and be drugged so that I can get my kink out, my fetish on having sex with unconscious people, there's a consensual way to do that."

I think she does say what the DM article is saying.

I haven't seen the documentary but I did see the video of the relevant section circulating online a few days ago. The Daily Mail has picked up the story, it hasn't invented it. Again, anything that is seen to rile the Daily Mail is judged by some people to have a value in itself. (Even if it is rapey misogyny.)

Correct. They are spouting outrageous shite for clout, ie the kool-aid drinkers will clap their tiny hands with glee at how brave and stunning they are while the normies, left and right and in between, who register their existence will suffer a prolonged w…t…fff moment, possibly culminating in horror, rage and/or confusion.

LexMitior · 08/03/2023 14:10

What's pretty distasteful is that this woman knows there is not such an idyllic world, and the reason for that is part of the power in such a scenario where one party is drugged and cannot resist.

She smears over legal issues of consent, ongoing consent in particular. There are useful idiots all over the world, but this woman is not one of them. I know it's in the DM, but she is using her status and expertise to smear over bodily autonomy and sexual consent. Those are rules needed to prevent victimisation of vulnerable people.

Probably to some degree her job is also a manifestation of her gratification about sex.
