Humza Yousaf says trans rapist Isla Bryson should have right to self-identify as female

The favourite to replace Nicola Sturgeon has said Isla Bryson should have the right to self-identify as female despite arguing that the transgender rapist is "at it".

Humza Yousaf argued that it would be unfair to oppose Ms Sturgeon's self-ID gender laws "because of one despicable individual" whom he said had tried to "manipulate" Scotland's prison system.

Although the laws have been blocked by the UK Government and have never been implemented, he argued this would be akin to "rolling back" transgender rights.

Mr Yousaf argued the current system, under which people must get a medical diagnosis of gender dysphoria, should be abolished as "99.9 per cent of trans men and women do not commit crime."

Pressed if the double rapist should be allowed to self-ID as female, he said: "Isla Bryson is, of course, a horrible, despicable individual but of course the law applies to people, everybody, without fear and without favour."

He's going to be inside for a long time and being transferred to the female prison estate, however unlikely that seems right now, still has a number of attractions for him I expect...

The Scottish Daily Express is pulling no punches, which is refreshing.

It sounds like Bryson is enjoying using the power that his claim to be trans gives him. There will be extra privileges (extra time in the shower is an example given) and also it allows him the right to make a huge fuss and claim transphobia when he doesn’t get his way, in the knowledge that there will be people in positions of power who will support him.

As has been noted before, it’s very possible for naive “do-gooders” with power to do a great deal of harm because they dismiss the understanding that those on the ground have.

I think it's more likely to do with the special treatment wearing a dress and wig affords him in prison - in the article it says because of how he identifies he gets an extra 30 minutes shower time. The mind boggles as to why a pre-op trans woman would need more time to wash than any other man😂

30 minutes of supervised shower time? What is Isla, erm, doing in there for half an hour extra?

and what does the prison service think women are? Particularly dirty?

this is madness. The only reason Isla needs longer in the shower than anyone else is because Isla is fucking massive

Oh well. So long as those very thoroughly laundered bits aren't in the shower of the women's estate, let them all enjoy themselves.

I find this irritating. Female prisoners have complained about having to shower next to trans women aka men. Separated by just a shower curtain that kept being accidentally moved.

Institutional belief that men who say they are women must be pandered to. Ffs.

Just shows id-ing as trans has its benefits even if you still get stuck in a men's prison. Ffs why wouldn't they.

I'm hoping about 50% of the prison population suddenly ID as trans. As others have said, why wouldn't they if it means private shower time? All they have to say is they feel womanly. I think the pink leggings are optional.
