the Sex topic on MN

I couldn't see a thread in FWR, though there are plenty in Site Stuff and AIBU. I thought it would be good to hear what women here think, especially about the safeguarding fails. MN hosting discussion of people graphically describing CSA and a 'sex chat' for people to find hook ups. Justine's response was to say that maybe they underestimated the negative impact, but they're going to carry on anyway. Posters who've reported threads and comments have been ignored.

I don't see how MN can keep going as a parenting site if it is failing on very basic safeguarding. Someone on another thread pointed out that sex forums at least have a bare minimum of safeguards, such as age verification, a list of banned topics, and active moderation (rather than the after-the-fact reports and deletions MN usually do.)

There are also concerns that it changes the nature of the people coming to post on MN and generally makes women less able to access the help and advice they need. I've noticed for a while that there's more victim blaming and misogyny in the relationships topic - apparently MN changed the posting rules last year so that new users only have to wait 7 days to post in the sex topic, where it was previously 90. So it's possible that the change there is related to that.

So, so odd. Yet posters that use that topic tell us they can spot the weirdos and do report them themselves. When that sort of shit isn’t seen as weird/pervy/seedy, they’re clearly not the best judges. Or if some are reporting, mumsnet feels it’s ok.

How strange that posters are questioning why we’d engage with them. Should these posters go unchallenged. I think not.

These posters have no trouble reporting comments that show them in a bad light, but God forbid you ever criticise their "right" to share some nasty details about their kinks or fetishes. I'm so sick of it. Why are my comments getting deleted? I'm not the one telling rape victims they're hysterical.

I don't go anywhere near their grim, fetid, sweaty little corner of MN but they aren't satisfied having their own space, they have to make sure others are watching.

I was one the poster to whom the one making this point responded. For clarification, I merely said that I didn't engage with specific posters touting particularly grim organizations (a charity now under investigation for its dubious practices and associations, and a particularly repulsive 'information exchange'). I'm not questioning how others choose to interact: I was speaking for myself alone, specifically with the PIE handle I gave as an example.

They post the same old repetitive shite and derail threads, going round and round in circles. It's that kind of deliberately provocative behaviour - designed purposely to disrupt the site - that I'm disinclined to humour. Some do - others who post on this board have reached the same conclusion as mine.

The troller/disrupter seemingly has inexhaustible energy for the same, ever-decreasing-circle of repetitive discussion. I don't.
