Scottish police have defied Nicola Sturgeon’s sex self-ID drive by referring to a transgender butcher arrested in connection with the disappearance of an 11-year-old girl as a man.

What with this and flying drones on sunday to keep women safe makes you wonder?!

Is it misgendering if they don't have a GRC?

Isla/Adam doesn't. Yet was referred to as "she"

JellySaurus · 08/02/2023 15:30

It means that gender-based law is prejudiced, unclear, asinine, bad law.

JellySaurus · 08/02/2023 15:31

That was in response to

Hmmm ... does this mean, under Scotland's Hate Crime Bill that the police have committed a hate crime by misgendering 'the individual?

BoreOfWhabylon · 08/02/2023 16:02

The last thing Sturgeon would want in the current climate is for this man to be held in a women's facility. Hence the eagerness to describe him as a man and hope no one would notice.

Gaslighty bastarding gaslighters.

Soz Nicola, the wheels have all fallen off the bus and everyone is pointing at the naked emperor's willy.

IwantToRetire · 08/02/2023 16:08

Just to say that I started the thread not to talk about details of the crime for reasons everyone has stated so thanks. Was half thinking it wouldn't be here when I next logged in.

I did here a BBC radio short news item, using Andrew but then saying somethng like changed his name to Amy 6 years ago.

But am wondering as has been suggested up thread that this is a tactic, that when the crime is violence against women they will use male name, and if another sort of crime use female name.

Sort of complying with NS. ie male, female, rapist.

"Changed his name", or "calls himself"?

One infers a formal process, the other doesn't.

namechange1487 · 08/02/2023 16:56

I'm in Scotland and this is the main topic in all my many WhatsApps. People not talking about it before but now aghast and what is happening.

If this is the hill Sturgeon wants to die on, she's doing a grand job of ending her career.

Total disaster

Will the police be reporting themselves to themselves for misgendering and deadnaming hate crimes?

ResisterRex · 08/02/2023 18:31

Scottish Police Federation say they were not consulted on the GRR:

Scottish Police Federation said force was not consulted on gender recognition act

"David Hamilton, the chairman of the Scottish Police Federation, said the force was not consulted on these new responsibilities and raised concerns over the practical and cost implications.

He told 1919 magazine: “It was utterly irresponsible of the Scottish parliament to foist this additional workload on Police Scotland at such a late stage in proceedings.

“I don’t know what magic money tree they think we have, because these additional responsibilities will come with a costly price tag.”"

Sorry if this has already been posted, but even the Guardian is reporting it as man arrested.

Wonder if it is anything to do with the women journalists who defied the IPSO guidelines last week?

I read the Times link posted by ResisterRex which has this line:

UK ministers said the draft law would conflict with equality protections that apply across Great Britain.

I read it as 'daft law' Grin

Happylittlechicken · 08/02/2023 22:35

Both can be true @Tallisker
