Hogwarts Legacy gets great reviews

The Hogwarts Legacy reviews have dropped from major game review sites before release tomorrow and they are great:

Review ratings :
• PSU - 9.5
• IGN - 9
• JVCOM - 9
• Xbox Era - 9
• Power Up - 9
• Press Start - 9
• Well Played - 9
• Pushsquare - 8
• Gamerant - 4.5/5
• Screen Rant - 4.5/5
• VGC - 4/5
• Metacritic - 87

Typical review below is an example it has some of the usual anti JKR performative nonsense, but otherwise the review shows how good the game is and how close it ties into the magic of the books. :

The massive failure of the campaign against Hogwarts Legacy is another example of TRA self sabotage. The game itself is good and is going to do more massive sales now it is out, and the controversy helped give it great name recognition. Better than that it demonstrates that "transphobia" is a meaningless term which people increasingly ignore. It means that the gender fanatics attempt to control how people think is collapsing more and more.

Their latest TRA ploy is to call for a boycott of Twitch because it is showing Hogwarts Legacy adverts which again is going to fail and will further alienate people:
www.thegamer.com/hogwarts-legacy-twitch-ads-boycott/

What makes this all more sweet is JKR is benefitting massively from this because TRAs are so bigoted and can't tolerate dissent. This is nothing to do with helping anyone "trans" this is just about "moral" purity. It is even more blatant now it has been revealed there is a "trans" charater in the game as well as there being no rules about whether you are a witch or wizard. Yes turns out a JKR based game doesn't care whether people call themselves witches or wizards or how they dress exactly as JKR states:
"Dress however you please.
Call yourself whatever you like."

Hogwarts Legacy "Trans" Character details
www.gamerevolution.com/news/934065-hogwarts-legacy-trans-character-transgender-sirona-ryan

Yes Hogwarts Legacy is more supportive of having an avatar which can gender non conform than most other games. Which makes sense because JKR doesn't care about that and the game reflects the universe she created.

The TRAs would never challenge the Call Of Duty franchise beloved by right wingers and where Activision the company behind it who have paid directly into Republican party coffers. No they only go after the game where a woman gets some of the profits, a woman who actively opposes the right and tried to stop Trump being elected in 2016.

If the TRAs hated the popularity of Hogwarts Legacy before it launched, they are really really going to hate how big it is going to be. They also can look forward Hogwarts {Rowling] Legacy 2 which their nonsense has helped make inevitable.

I’d buy the game to show my support but, like most AAA console titles now, it’s £60 (for the standard edition, you can choose to shell out more). It’s a sixth of the price of the original hardware!

Much as I admire JKR, I struggle to see the value of new release games at that price.

Not a gamer, just mother to one. I was paying £45 for new games maybe 5-6 years ago, so £60 doesn't actually seem that out of step.

nauticant · 06/02/2023 14:51

For games that are deep and involved, many gamers are getting 50+ hours of entertaiment for their £50+. When looking at other forms of entertainment, £60 can be argued to be reasonable value for money.

I'd not pay it, I'm reluctant to pay more than £10 for a game and am content to wait a few years for massive price drops in the AAA games. It also means I have a machine that can run them.

Thecomfortador · 06/02/2023 15:02

Ordered a copy from Curry's I think for £47.99. I don't even like computer games but there's DPs 40th birthday coming up and two young sons who like gaming so between them all it felt justified to buy it.

xeraco · 06/02/2023 15:14

Never in a million years would I buy an action game like this. But guess what?Grin

MillicentTrilbyHiggins · 06/02/2023 15:22

We've got to wait until April to play it on ps4. I never thought I'd happily pay £75 for a game (we got the deluxe edition) but I did. Well, DC and I went thirds, so I suppose I only paid £25. And the hours of play we'll get between us make it a bargain.

KimberWozRobbed · 06/02/2023 15:23

My copy arrived in Saturday morning and I played for a couple of hours last night. It's very good so far and looks beautiful.

Don't feel obligated. Plenty of other ways to show support just buy something supporting women JKR would love that or any bit of Potter merchandise she will get a cut. To be honest JKR has never cared much about the computer games part of the franchise and has never sought to control them unlike her interest in the films. That is why the TRAs campaign was particularly pointless.

What I want to know is whether it's worth the whole family being the same House. I'd like us all to be in different ones so we can hang out in the different Common Rooms but I bet there's a boost being on the same team.

Answers on a postcard, please.

Cannot wait to get confirmation that this pathetic boycott has completely failed

NicolaSturgeonsSOGIbottom · 06/02/2023 16:10

I don’t know a thing about gaming (the last console I owned was a SNES) but I am getting really interested in purity spirals and how they can hollow out communities and this seems like a significant event that has the potential to kick off hundreds of the things as various woke gamers inevitably get outed for disobeying the boycott.

Thanks for the detailed OP fromorbit!

Guardian Reviewer gave it 3 stars.

It’s not going down well on Twitter.

It’s not going down well on Twitter.

On either ‘side’ it seems.

The reviewer was never going to win, bless their blue hair…

…at three stars it’s too high a score for fellow travellers (so getting slated by them) and yet too low to be an objectively fair review, given where the rest of the gaming press has positioned it.

Which has ticked off everyone else!

NicolaSturgeonsSOGIbottom · 06/02/2023 17:42

Yep.

Maybe she’ll peak though - the most awful comments are (unsurprisingly) from the trans side.

Loving that the blue haired trolls are wetting their pants over this. 😂

NitroNine · 06/02/2023 23:57

Absolute scenes on Twitter over the trans character’s name, too - “Sirona abbreviates to ‘Sir!’” & “They gave her a male[-coded] surname!” - plus complaints about the voice being done by a male actor. (Excellent reminder there that we do not hear our voices as others do…)

Lots of “ahahaha penises in girls’ dormitories JKR must be dying” which, you know, says a lot about the people imagining such things. We all know Real Hogwarts (it’s real in the ways that matter, any would-be joy-crushers of the “it’s MADE UP!” variety 🙄) would yeet any such student off the staircase faster than Malfoy would swerve Moody post-ferreting; so people can dwell in their fanficification all they want. The castle is a big old TERF, insistent on the reality of biological differences: just as it separates Muggles from the Magical; so it separates the sexes in some spaces. (The one girls’ loo used solely for Dramatic Exposition rather than as an actual loo it doesn’t seem bothered about; & I’m not actually sure what the situation is with the Prefects’ bathroom 🤔🤨)

Re game prices - I remember GTA3 being £40 when it came out and that was the best past of 20 years ago...

Stalking people. "Are we the baddies?"

NitroNine · 07/02/2023 04:13

Those streamers were even raising money for The Trevor Project to atone for the sin of playing Hogwarts Legacy (which they got for free) but no, no quarter shall be given to the impure! Many of the people doing the attacking & boycotting [are fans of people who] identify as communists & insist there is no ethical consumption under capitalism to justify a quite grotesque level of consumerism. (Quite frequently amongst this demographic people with prominent requests for funding on their social media seem to think that rent & bills are something others should pay for them; their money is for tattoos/gaming/literal toys.)

That conspiracy theory about the name is WILD @NicolaSturgeonsSOGIbottom - am slightly disappointed they’ve not looked into Sinister Anagrams. Absolutely bananas. “We’re determined to find transphobia so we’re going to play truly ridiculous polylingual word games to create some! YAY US!” I just hope they warmed up really thoroughly before stretched because this sort of thing could result in permanent disability, never mind a mere injury 😶

fromorbit · 07/02/2023 09:22

The meltdowns online about this are wild. HL is going to get millions of sales.

Everything they do backfires. Pirating HL and posting about it online to claim you are a "good person" is free advertising for Hogwarts Legacy. Saying this is a game so good that you will do anything to play it and telling everyone online about what you are doing this just makes others think it is worth buying.

Most people do not pirate games anymore.

The bullying of other gamers is going to backfire.

The key thing here is the amount of games websites refusing to review the game, they need to be called out for not doing their job, and for being at odds with their readers (particularly as the game is a best seller).

Apparently a couple of the more politically vicious gaming sites were not given advance copies to review 🤣

Bit of a Kafka trap there, do they whinge about being excluded? Complain about Portkey Games for deliberating avoiding their outspoken critics?

If they do, it will expose them as being hypocritical over the boycott, after all, they shouldn’t WANT to review it anyway.

That leaves them with arguing that they were entitled to a free copy purely to chuck straight in their bin, which y’know, is bad for the environment.

I’m enjoying the pushback involving copy and paste comments re: smart phones and real, tangible human suffering.
