The Hogwarts Legacy reviews have dropped from major game review sites before release tomorrow and they are great:

Review ratings :
• PSU - 9.5
• IGN - 9
• JVCOM - 9
• Xbox Era - 9
• Power Up - 9
• Press Start - 9
• Well Played - 9
• Pushsquare - 8
• Gamerant - 4.5/5
• Screen Rant - 4.5/5
• VGC - 4/5
• Metacritic - 87

Typical review below is an example it has some of the usual anti JKR performative nonsense, but otherwise the review shows how good the game is and how close it ties into the magic of the books. :

The massive failure of the campaign against Hogwarts Legacy is another example of TRA self sabotage. The game itself is good and is going to do more massive sales now it is out, and the controversy helped give it great name recognition. Better than that it demonstrates that "transphobia" is a meaningless term which people increasingly ignore. It means that the gender fanatics attempt to control how people think is collapsing more and more.

Their latest TRA ploy is to call for a boycott of Twitch because it is showing Hogwarts Legacy adverts which again is going to fail and will further alienate people:
www.thegamer.com/hogwarts-legacy-twitch-ads-boycott/

What makes this all more sweet is JKR is benefitting massively from this because TRAs are so bigoted and can't tolerate dissent. This is nothing to do with helping anyone "trans" this is just about "moral" purity. It is even more blatant now it has been revealed there is a "trans" charater in the game as well as there being no rules about whether you are a witch or wizard. Yes turns out a JKR based game doesn't care whether people call themselves witches or wizards or how they dress exactly as JKR states:
"Dress however you please.
Call yourself whatever you like."

Yes Hogwarts Legacy is more supportive of having an avatar which can gender non conform than most other games. Which makes sense because JKR doesn't care about that and the game reflects the universe she created.

The TRAs would never challenge the Call Of Duty franchise beloved by right wingers and where Activision the company behind it who have paid directly into Republican party coffers. No they only go after the game where a woman gets some of the profits, a woman who actively opposes the right and tried to stop Trump being elected in 2016.

If the TRAs hated the popularity of Hogwarts Legacy before it launched, they are really really going to hate how big it is going to be. They also can look forward Hogwarts {Rowling] Legacy 2 which their nonsense has helped make inevitable.

I love the idea that the MRAs TRAs have Steisanded the Hogwarts game. Cracks me up.

Fantastic work all round.

I had not intended to buy it. It's not really my type of game and I don't care about Harry Potter. However the "reviews" have annoyed me so much I just bought it. Fanatical £43.99 for the standard version, activates on steam.
Whatever number it sells, and it looks like it's gonna be huge, one out of the very many is mine.

HorribleNecktie · 13/02/2023 11:55

I’m playing it. As is DH and 10yo DD. The Hufflepuff common room and dorms are glorious.

GoingOnce · 13/02/2023 16:58

I’ve just bought this as a half-term treat for my DS. He’s loving it. He is 13 and knows all about the JK Rowling controversy and is, thankfully, fully on her side.

CoffeeWithCheese · 13/02/2023 17:22

The other tactic now going around (game is utterly enchanting - we have it on console and then I bought it on Steam as well to get a look-in between DH and the kids) is that the TRAs are sending unsolicited messages out to people on gaming forums spoiling the ending.

Doesn't bother me - I don't like unseen plot twists etc anyway so tend to spoiler myself (it's the autism in me I think) and if we survived the Snape kills Dumbledore spoiler-fest of old, I think we can survive this.

TeenDivided · 13/02/2023 17:47

and if we survived the Snape kills Dumbledore

What? Why tell me this? I was looking forward to reading the later books at some point! Always knew he was a baddie but still. Shock

TheKeatingFive · 13/02/2023 17:50

… and if we survived the Snape kills Dumbledore spoiler-fest of old, I think we can survive this.

Harry Potter books do have a rich history of spoilers so I suppose it’s sort of nice that the anti-women-activists are keeping the tradition alive?

CoffeeWithCheese · 14/02/2023 11:58

I was working at a school (still teaching) when that book came out and some of the year 6's got into the school IT suite and changed the screensavers (those old fashioned scrolling text ones) to reveal the spoiler!

BezMills · 14/02/2023 12:26

Modest Pelican has his review up. I think he's funny, ymmv

ReunitedThorns · 22/02/2023 23:27

The double standards are showing again, a game called Atomic Heart, which is believed to be Russian developed and/or funded is freely being reviewed by journalists, reviews do not contain long paragraphs about Ukraine and is generally being mentioned on websites that banned all mention of Hogwarts Legacy.

OldGardinia · 23/02/2023 14:25

I've been following this over on KiwiFarms where much of the information is the same though the conversation is spicier of course. Something shared there might be of mild interest. Security on the game has apparently been cracked by a legendary hacker named "Empress". Empress has sometimes been thought to be a transwoman despite always referring to herself as female, because some people think an actual woman wouldn't be able to or wouldn't want to be a hacker (everyone here has encountered such attitudes).

Anyway, the relevance of this to the discussion is that Empress included some pretty clear views on the subject of JK Rowling and the trans lobby. And, uh, I'm pretty sure she's an actual woman.

Warning - there's some colourful language in the attached image - hope that's okay. It would be a bunch of work to edit the image and censor things and I'd lose some of the meaning anyway. Also, if for any reason anyone thinks I'm promoting pirating this game I'm not. There's hundreds of hours of game play in it. £50 is a bargain, imo.

Figured some might find it of interest.

Eh that's totally a man. In my opinion. In my experience wims don't call men fags, that's man work

WhereYouLeftIt · 23/02/2023 18:38

Yes, too liberal a use of 'bitches' and uses the phrase 'against trans' where I'd expect a woman to make the point of 'for women'. Bit ranty.

TBH if I was a hacker I'd hide my identity as much as possible, so if "Empress" always refers to themself as female, I'd expect them to be a bloke.

NicolaSturgeonsSOGIbottom · 24/02/2023 11:03

I dunno - if you spend a lot of time immersed in a very male culture you do sometimes pick up their phrases/figures of speech.

I’ve not looked at KF in a while but it’s a prime example of a culture that on the surface seems to be very male but there are actually loads and loads of female posters. Once you know this the tone between one section (The Beauty Parlour) and another (Articles and Happenings) seems more obviously different but frankly, typing up really bad words at a time when speech is policed so tightly and online moderation is so one-sided IS rather appealing, even to me, a middle aged mother of three. My own young adult son sometimes chastises me (whilst laughing and agreeing) because I said something that isn’t acceptable in his university friendship quote (eg ‘Bluehairedgenderspecial’ to describe a neighbour 😇)

Plus, not all women are wimms and thus won’t necessarily have the same phrases AND the internet is international

I would never say ‘fag’ as an insult, not because I’m a woman but because I am British and to me, a fag is a cigarette. I do, however, regularly object to ‘fag butts at the bus stop’ but I’m complaining about littering rather than homosexual men showing me their arse cheeks while I’m waiting for public transport (which for the record, would also warrant a stern letter to the appropriate council department).

Anyway, regardless of Empress’ sex (which doesn’t really matter if we aren’t in a single sex space or using a single sex service or having a sexual relationship with Empress or seeing Empress for a gynae exam/mammogram or DV/rape counselling appointment) it’s always interesting to see someone having a peak woke/ no more trans ideology moment, especially when it’s outside of our own subcultural environment!
