Sturgeon getting an absolute grilling on Channel 4 News

I should imagine the clip will be doing the rounds on twitter shortly if it's not already, but their Scotland correspondant Ciaran Jenkins did a really good job in a brief interview with her when she was on a tour of a TV studio today. Raised the issue of Katie Dolatowski, and got her quite rattled trying to get her to justify her comments about transphobia and racism. Should be on about 8:15/8:20ish if you want to watch it on C4+1

Unwraps, throws cellophane outer packaging into the one bin, offers up silent thanks to the local Council

For those who have to endure the hell that is multiple bins and boxes

💐

I’ve got FOUR wheely bins!

FOUR (4)!

Tricyrtis2022 · 06/02/2023 11:33

We've got four too, plus a food waste bin and two boxes.

Boiledbeetle · 06/02/2023 11:53

I've just looked, most of the poor sods where I live have 2 wheelie bins and 2 boxes, and fortnightly pickup of the different ones.

That would drive me round the twist.

So glad the normal bin wagon doesn't do my round!

God! This is a rubbish thread derail!

DialSquare · 06/02/2023 11:55

I've got a small food bin, a card and paper box, a garden wheelie bin, black general rubbish bags, pink recycling bags and textiles bags.

Boiledbeetle · 06/02/2023 12:03

So, for most people they are already separating rubbish as much as possible. Why make it even harder to now have to have another receptacle to store all the recycling you would now have to keep separately to take back to the shop?

What the Scottish have suggested seems like one of those ideas someone had in a brainstorming meeting that usually never makes it to full fruition because it's daft!

At least Nicola is consistent with her daftness

justasking111 · 06/02/2023 12:35

We have wheelie bin every four weeks.
Paper bin weekly
Plastic and tin bin weekly
Glass and cardboard bin weekly. ( The cardboard doesn't fit in so you disassemble, fold and tie together
Food bin
Garden bin fortnightly (pay extra for this)

Electrics separate bag pink (but they've never got any) fortnightly
Clothing separate bag (again they've never got any) fortnightly.

You're allowed X visits to recycling centre annually pre booked for a slot. (Domestic waste only)

Been doing this for years in Wales. Commercial premises are excused

Sugarfree23 · 06/02/2023 12:59

We also have 4 bins.
Paper 4 weekly
Plastic, glass & cans 4 weekly
Food / Garden 2 weekly
General waste 2 weekly.

Electric & clothing gets taken to the recycle centre.

That's it exactly most people are trying. And the system works reasonably well.

The consumer might get their 20p back on bottles.
But who is paying for the recycle bins / bank?
Who is paying for space in shops that the recycle bin will take up?
Who is paying for the administration of the whole scheme?
Multi packs don't have individual bar codes who's paying to put them on?
What about the time factor, queuing to put bottles in the banks?
We all know electronic things are prone to failure, then what?

I just see a whole bundle of cost associated with it that will be passed on to consumers.

What % of bottles are currently being recycled? What % more can we realistly expect to be recycled?

littlbrowndog · 06/02/2023 13:13

We don’t have bins as live in tenement.
we have bins on the street for glass paper and general rubbish

the recycling bins are always overflowing.

Sugarfree23 · 06/02/2023 13:18

Which means people are trying, they either need bigger bins or emptied more frequently.
Storing emptyies in a tenement to cart back to the shops isn't going to be fun either.

NicolaSturgeonsSOGIbottom · 06/02/2023 13:20

I used to live in a 1920s built council flat that had one of those shoots that you chucked your rubbish down into one big bin below.

We once spent a happy half hour sending down some of those 1970s blown glass fish, wheeling the bin aside so we could take turns watching the multi coloured glass smash.

(don’t worry, we swept it all up!)

SinnerBoy · 06/02/2023 13:24

We have a general waste bin and a recycling one, which has a basket for glass, both are collected fortnightly - alternating weeks. Technically, they won't empty them if the glass is in the wrong bit, but most of the baskets have been stolen, so it all gets tipped into the wagon.

I've spent months at a time on projects in Germany and you find that Edeka and Netto mainly sell different brands. They won't take bottles and jars, if they don't sell them.

You get a ticket for money off, it works well. They also have domestic bins and recycling; heaven help you if you don't wash margarine and yoghurt tubs!

All this recycling talk is keeping Nicola’s Gerald Ratner moment at the top of the board.

One woman’s trash (-ed political reputation) is another woman’s treasure!

😂😂 my friend dated a relation of Ratner. Plonkership is genetic

Another man who wears Women’s clothes has been arrested in scotland

child abduction:

StephanieSuperpowers · 07/02/2023 19:25

No, that never happens so it can't have happened.

ArabellaScott · 07/02/2023 19:34

And a man who steals underwear and was wearing stolen women's knickers when caught has been put on the SO register.

www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/news/courts/4115074/graham-orrock-pants-thief/

'The sheriff said: “It’s not deviant to be a cross dresser.

“It’s not deviant to have a sex toy doll.

“But Mr Orrock, you articulated that the theft of these items was sexually motivated.

“Therefore, my opinion is the offences do have a significant sexual element.

“I consider that the behaviour is behaviour which is indicative of underlying sexual deviancy.”'

Creepy JK shrine at the butcher’s shop.

I’d like to know what Nicola Sturgeon, Shona Robison et al. think of these latest developments.

Is this really what they want for Scotland?

Blister · 07/02/2023 19:53

I think there's a failure to realise that being a woman isn't about the headlines or press cycles. These stories will keep on appearing. Women are everyday.

ShireWifeofNigelFarage · 07/02/2023 19:58

And the press are going to enjoy printing all of them. Finally.

Transparent2 · 07/02/2023 20:16

Boiledbeetle · 05/02/2023 23:33

Because they were written by men for men. It's there any down side for men in any of this? Apart from a few transmen deluded enough to be trying to persuade gay men to have sex or saunas with them?

Yes, there is a downside for some men. Fathers (of transgender people) who don’t accept trans identity nonsense are very significantly impacted, in pretty much exactly the same way as mothers. In some cases the mother copes better with the anxiety and distress, as you might expect if you recognise the strength that women often show. And there are plenty of men who reject some parts of queer theory and see it for the dangerous nonsense it is.

I agree 💐

It’s broken my husband’s heart

It’s also terrible for the boys who get caught up in it.

I’ve got FOUR wheely bins!

FOUR (4)!

I'd rather have four wheelie bins than the set up in my area. Two wheelies (rubbish and a green bin), two big plastic boxes for paper and glass, and a big plastic bag thing for plastic. Of course when it's windy the bag just blows away and the streets are filled with plastic. Really well thought out.... The boxes are really unwieldy so if it's been raining you get really wet and dirty carrying them down the garden. You can't keep them inside (unless you live in a house with a massive reccycling storage area) because they're too big. They're also really heavy once they get half full. I'd be ecstatic with four wheelies instead.
