I should imagine the clip will be doing the rounds on twitter shortly if it's not already, but their Scotland correspondant Ciaran Jenkins did a really good job in a brief interview with her when she was on a tour of a TV studio today. Raised the issue of Katie Dolatowski, and got her quite rattled trying to get her to justify her comments about transphobia and racism. Should be on about 8:15/8:20ish if you want to watch it on C4+1

They keep bleating about risk assessments. But they risk assesessed this man and found him fit. So how can they hide behind this? It's clearly not fit for purpose.

Well they did a risk assessment and found there was no risk TO HIM from being sent to Cornton Vale. That’s a pretty important detail about the much-mentioned “risk assessments” that SPS have been carrying out.

The risk to women prisoners? Not really assessed was it?

EndlessTea · 31/01/2023 21:08

You are absolutely right RhannionKPSS. I hope it didn’t seem like I am making excuses for her. My rather more strongly worded post was taken down.

I suppose my feeling is that she is a career politician with no moral compass.

She wanted to know which way the wind was blowing so she could look progressive and with it, which left her wide open to dodgy activists, with nefarious motives, telling her that giving them whatever they want, would make her look really with it, and progressive.

She stupidly/greedily fell for it, trusted them. I think of it like the stupid Emperor getting taken in by the swindlers - telling him that ‘only clever people can see these fine threads’.

But, of course, they were telling her porkies all along. Dodgy activists with nefarious motives do not represent the Scottish public.

She now stands there in the buff, bewildered.

It's a big red herring. People assume they are assessing the risk to the female prisoners. They're not. The only person they deem to be potentially at risk is the TW. The assessment is about their comfort and safety.

What risk could there possibly be to a man walking into a place where there are a load of incarcerated women? 🤯

Their child maintenance payment bill might go up?

Sugarfree23 · 31/01/2023 22:48

One woman in Cornton Vale got fitted with a coil as she was worried about rape and pregnancy.
That is just not right.

No - of course not, it was that my reply got deleted so my explanation above didn’t make sense. Soz if it looked like that.

I didn't, I was just being a daftie, I thought mine had been deleted...

In the case of a TW? "Hate speech" (i.e. incorrect pronoun use). Invalidation - failure to tell him how pretty he looks today or to plait his hair on request. Bullying/isolation, when women don't want to be his bestie and share their lippy with him (too terrified to give him any encouragement). Transphobia, when women complain about him ogling them in the communal shower while he fondles his hard on. They are very vulnerable 🙄

SinnerBoy · 31/01/2023 22:56

As for Sturgeon being conned, falling for a trick etc, where's her much vaunted political nous? She sells herself as a practical, down to earth person, who won't take crap from Westminster.

So why did she not do what we did and use some common sense?

Since 2016 Stonewall and Denton's snake-oil sellers have played "be-kind-no-debate" and "this is the new Section 28" very beautifully on politicians ears.

Only now are they hearing how truly awful it actually sounded

I think it’s vanity. Like the Emperor.

Many years ago there was an Emperor so exceedingly fond of new clothes that he spent all his money on being well dressed. He cared nothing about reviewing his soldiers, going to the theatre, or going for a ride in his carriage, except to show off his new clothes. He had a coat for every hour of the day, and instead of saying, as one might, about any other ruler, "The King's in council," here they always said. "The Emperor's in his dressing room."

In the great city where he lived, life was always gay. Every day many strangers came to town, and among them one day came two swindlers. They let it be known they were weavers, and they said they could weave the most magnificent fabrics imaginable. Not only were their colors and patterns uncommonly fine, but clothes made of this cloth had a wonderful way of becoming invisible to anyone who was unfit for his office, or who was unusually stupid.

"Those would be just the clothes for me," thought the Emperor. "If I wore them I would be able to discover which men in my empire are unfit for their posts. And I could tell the wise men from the fools. Yes, I certainly must get some of the stuff woven for me right away." He paid the two swindlers a large sum of money to start work at once.

Because she's never fallen for a trick yet.

Twice she's been told No by the United Nations that polices are breaching their rules.

Seriously you'd never have thought that women, mothers and fathers in Scotland would need to rely on the UN to protect our rights.
Maybe the UN is where we need to fight for women's toilets, hospital wards, and changing rooms.
The prisons already seem to be protected.

True, by the Special Rapporteur for Violence Against Women and Girls. Some UN man told her it was all great, however.

Rainbowshit · 01/02/2023 08:33

NS has one eye on the Indy prize at all times. Everything is seen through the lens of gaining independence.

So any policy that makes scotland look different, more "progressive" than rUK is instantly appealing.

Combining that with them blocking anyone that raises any query, criticism or suggestion and they operate in a bubble where they only hear the opinions that agree with them.

The public have to take them to court to get ourselves heard normally like with named person.

Is this the 'Independent' UN chappie to which you refer? Not at all questioning his/her/furry background or sincerity. There are those who might question them though as per what was unearthed here.

@Cailleach1
Dr Alice Edwards the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture is who I was thinking about apparently raised concerns about Scott being sent to female jail - from the Daily Mail

Looking for that online instead of in the paper I also found this from the Guardian

Responding to the news, Reem Asalem, the UN’s special rapporteur on violence against women and girls, said she was “Remembering the many times we were told that the idea that predatory and violent males may want to take advantage of the presence of loopholes in system and weak safeguards to enter spaces reserved for females was ludicrous!”

Before the GRR bill was passed in December, Alsalem sent a highly critical letter to the UK government in which she raised concerns that the reforms would “open the door for violent males” to abuse the process.

And prior to all this stuff it was the UN's, everyone has right to private family life that put the nail in the coffin of Named Person.

Ita crazy that the UN are even finding a need to comment on the Government of Scotland. We are supposed to be a civilised democratic society.

Interesting rumours that Sturgeon is about to stand down:

www.scottishdailyexpress.co.uk/news/politics/nicola-sturgeon-said-on-verge-29099245

As Enoch Powell once said, All political careers end in failure.

CaveMum · 01/02/2023 10:13

I saw the Twitter rumours about NS standing down before the next election, but at that stage they seemed to be quoting a 6 month old piece of news <crosses fingers>

RudsyFarmer · 01/02/2023 10:14

They all end up hoisted on their own petard. Every single one of them!!
