I should imagine the clip will be doing the rounds on twitter shortly if it's not already, but their Scotland correspondant Ciaran Jenkins did a really good job in a brief interview with her when she was on a tour of a TV studio today. Raised the issue of Katie Dolatowski, and got her quite rattled trying to get her to justify her comments about transphobia and racism. Should be on about 8:15/8:20ish if you want to watch it on C4+1

@LikeAnOldFriend do you think about

  1. children who have had their lives irreversibly damaged by this ideology to the point of their bodies being mutilated?
  2. rape victims being told to “reframe their trauma” to facilitate mens wants
  3. thecwomen who have lost their careers for simply stating reality
  4. a rape victim who spent a year fighting for justice because the NHS refused to accept there was a man on the ward because he identified as a woman
  5. Children exposed to sexualisation belt some very dubious characters where normal safeguarding has gone out the window in the name of inclusivity
  6. women who have suffered threats of violence rape snd death for standing up for women and reality?
  7. women who have been forced into accepting a man as a doctor or rape councillor even though their religion or trauma means only a woman would do. But we can’t risk upsetting men
  8. women being forced to participate in a non- consensual indulgence of a AGP man’s fantasies?
the list goes on.

None of this would have happened if trans women had argued for third spaces, accepted they were different to biological women.

We - the women - we want our fucking stuff back. We want our women’s prisons, our women’s sports, our women’s refuges, our women’s bogs, our right to same-sex care, our fucking WORDS.

Too right.

LexMitior · 30/01/2023 22:22

Well okay. Let's see how the SNP do. You know that's the only metric NS has.

I would put money on her fighting this unless her party's polling is affected. If not, she will carry right on with this and some warmed over words.

Spare a thought for the emotional support dogs at Stonewall HQ. They'll have been working overtime to soothe the tired kiddiewinks

You had me laughing out loud.I hope the likes of Dr Stock and Allison Bailey are celebrating tonight.

I would love to hear what Lloyd Russell -Moyles view in this is right now!

Merrilydancing · 30/01/2023 22:25

I haven’t really commented on these threads over the past week as they have been moving so quickly which is a good thing, I was beginning to think we would never get this far.

Watching the itv interview was so revealing, so trans women are women but may or may not go to women’s prison, but old style women will never go to the men’s prison. Wonder why as in our glorious leaders view, both are women.

DialSquare · 30/01/2023 22:25

It reminded me a bit of a Dick Emery sketch.

Yeah, but what's the alternative?

The Greens make the SNP look almost sane.

Scots will NEVER vote Tory en masse.

And Labour have the same stance on Self ID, don't they?

Wonder where Alba Party stand on the subject. she says in jest

Marchmount · 30/01/2023 21:57

Ash Regan isn’t and is proving very adept at positioning herself as an alternate contender. I’m a unionist so kinda hope they don’t appoint a credible leader before the “pseudo referendum election” but they do have a few good non-believers. Always liked Ruth Maguire and Laura Cameron as well. Most of the rest are a bonkers lost cause.

Rumours are flying round of Ash gaining support amongst the membership apparently. Whatever happens Sturgeon can't last much longer and the future of the party is all over the place. It seems unlikely she will go before the election little chance of an MSP revolt. However this is going to cost them a bunch of votes maybe Alba will win in a few places who knows. I think a contest after the election is a cert though.

The fact is the 2024 election is going to be vicious because the woman card is one of the few the Tories can play UK wide. Plus most Tory MPs are now onboard and will be desperate to try anything to keep their seats. Plenty of time for this drama to get even stronger as well over the next year. Bound to be more criminals sadly, revelations from the NHS and Sport as well.

Expect Labour to do a big u turn.

Apologies if someone else has posted this, but here is JK’s response to Nicola. 😂

Seriously - unless there is a change in how Scots vote, then this stuff is not going away.

Nicola Sturgeon is the chief lawmaker for Scotland. She is writing the rules. One day, unless she is a political nobody, she will get this through. She nearly did.

The law only goes so far.

Do any of you ever think about how a trans woman would feel stumbling across your threads on here?

I know you all feel strongly about this but I feel genuinely sad at how the understandably emotive issue of trans women in prisons has whipped people up to a point where there's such glee in posts like this, and underneath it all is such a dismissive and negative view of all the trans women in our society and how they feel - which is often I would imagine desperately unseen, marginalised and discriminated against.

Calling a group the "trans women are women brigade" is so unkind to trans women everywhere who deserve to be recognised.

There's a quote by Magdalen Berns that would be my actual response to this.

I'll let you guess which one.

NS is a pain and won’t get voted out. At least she highlights the batshittery for everyone here.

Yes I find I have to be very careful. I have a senior post in school and all the educated women I work with still think inclusion is more important than women.

How do you think all the hundreds of thousands of women who've had their rape crisis centres, their DV shelters, their women's centres, their loos and changing rooms invaded by males feel? How do you think the thousands of families dealing with vulnerable children who want to take hormones and render themselves sterile before undergoing surgery to healthy bodies feel? Can you for just one moment imagine the torment or is everything about you? How do you think lesbians feel when they can't hold a female-only club night to socialise free from the male gaze? Only this past weekend an event planned in Tod/ Hebden Bridge had to be cancelled because men deluged the venue with complaints. How do you think that feels? How do you think it feels to see the words 'woman' and 'mother' removed from adverts and textbooks and publicity?

Don't you dare tell us to think about your feelings. What about ours?

PineCone74 · 30/01/2023 22:36

Butchyrestingface · 30/01/2023 22:03

It is the extremist thinking in some views ( and, as I said, on both sides of this and other issues)

What is extremist about believing that a man cannot become a woman, or vice versa?

Nothing at all extremist in holding those views. I am meaning more in the way that they are sometimes expressed. I mean more in the name-calling, glee at the prospect of people who we don’t agree with being taken down and so on.

FOJN · 30/01/2023 22:38

I too find the tone of some views around this debate really disturbing, on both sides.

"Both sides" my arse. Women haven't got people sacked, we haven't made rape and death threats and we haven't refused to engage in debate.

If you don't understand the anger the you must be new to this issue. You've caught us at the end of a furious tether, we're sick of being abused and gaslit by people claiming there are no legitimate concerns with self ID.

Humans cannot change sex.
Men, however they identify should not be housed in women's prisons. Women should be able to have single sex spaces for reasons of safety, privacy and dignity.
Men should not compete in women's sports for reasons of fairness. Children should not be set on a path to lifelong medicalisation or told their body is wrong and needs to be fixed before they are even old enough to buy alcohol.

I look forward to you explaining why any of these statements are extremist.
