Starmer is by no means perfect, but he's a lot better than the other potentials were in the last Labour leadership election. He at least had the awareness that things are actually a bit nuanced. Was it Nandy who said rapist TW should be in women's prisons?

Starmer isn’t clever enough to be a leader of anything let alone the country. He said that “it’s not true to say that only women have a cervix”.

Perhaps he’s not even sure how his own children were conceived or born given his lack of basic knowledge about female anatomy.

JemimaTiggywinkles · 30/01/2023 12:53

I think that claiming Starmer isn't clever is a bit silly. It is fairly obvious that he is intelligent, as are almost all MPs. They may be blinkered by their own biases, and / or choose not to see the opposite side of an argument when it suits them. But I don't believe for a second that anyone gets to be DPP without having some intelligence.

I'm not Starmer's biggest fan by any stretch. But all of this mayhem happened on the Tory's watch, and the other Labour potential leadership candidates would have backed Sturgeon rather than supporting the use of s35.

I suppose I'm biased too though, because I prefer people who are able to see nuance and are willing to change their mind after thinking about an issue. Just because we here have been immersed in this issue for nigh-on a decade doesn't mean it has been on everyone else's radar. The majority (IMO) have been "TWAW" because they didn't think about it too much. Now, with sunlight, they (public and MPs) are being forced to think about it. And, it turns out, most agree with us.

Rhona Hotchkiss is a very important voice in this debate, because she was a governor of a women's prison, Corton Vale no less. She knows what she is talking about, unlike the politicians and TRAs.

lifelongrest · 30/01/2023 13:03

That interview made me furious. They are deliberately ignoring how prevalent and unreported male sexual violence is. You can’t have a ‘risk assessment’ as most men who sexually assault women never face justice. Most crimes are unreported, if reported not charged, if charged not prosecuted, if prosecuted not convicted. We all know this. A justice secretary should know this.

And it’s not just predatory men women are assaulted by. It’s also opportunistic men.

The move from sex segregation creates opportunity.

It’s simply not true that you can keep men who will assault women out of prison by looking at those convicted of a sex crime. It’s simply not true.

The fact we just can’t know which men will assault is why we have sex segregated spaces.

KR’s arguments really open the question of why we have male/ female prisons at all. Really, why do they exist in his happy world of obviously identifiable sex offenders? His argument leaves no reason for them to exist at all. In fact the only reason for the existence of women’s prisons in NS’s world of gender ideology is to validate TIMs. Her and her pals’ arguments leave no other reason for them to exist.

The solution to all this weasling and lying and shit is simple

BORN MALE MEN'S PRISON
BORN FEMALE WOMEN'S PRISON

And stop people being able to change sex markers on things it's bloody stupid and this is the shit it all leads to.

lifelongrest · 30/01/2023 13:53

Elsanore · 30/01/2023 08:36

I didn't find the MP that bad. He was being defensive about what's gone on to date but seemed to be generally agreeing that men shouldn't be in women's prisons?

No he wasn’t.

ITV News ask the FM if TWAW. And if WAW. It's amusing:

It is good to see journalists finally asking the right questions. It highlights the hypocrisy quite well to ask the two questions one after another and force an answer.

What I would like to see, though, is a more straight forward question - why do sex segregated spaces exist at all? Every single answer to that question prohibits TW from women's spaces.

NS is a disgrace! She knows damn well the difference is that TWAW, it’s the only difference!

Exactly this.

Mollyollydolly · 30/01/2023 14:18

Just an aside but it pleased me greatly. Rhona Hotchkiss was at the first LGBA conference, so indirectly the BBC are now platforming them Another first and about time.

You can see her having to stop herself from saying the correct answer. It's like the game where you have to not using yes or no

MoirasSaggyBundles · 30/01/2023 15:00

That clip has been given the State Media's usual droll treatment.

Boiledbeetle · 30/01/2023 15:07

@MoirasSaggyBundles that is superb

MoirasSaggyBundles · 30/01/2023 15:50

She's like the Vicky Pollard of gender politics.

JemimaTiggywinkles · 30/01/2023 15:59

She looks ridiculous because she cannot say the truth - there is a difference between transwomen and women. Even if she thinks that the category "woman" should be extended to include transwomen (so that TWAW) then she'd still have to acknowledge that there is a difference between transwomen and the group formerly known as women.

While I feel really quite upset that Sturgeon has such little regard for women as to push the bill through the Scottish Parliament, it has brought more sunlight than I thought possible. Mainstream media are covering this in a way only previously seen in the Daily Mail and GB News. It is reaching a whole new audience. And the general public aren't particularly impressed with the implications of self-ID.

How about this future one to cheer you up...
