Ellie was so very brave!

NancyDrawed · 07/02/2023 13:15

I was at the Nottingham event in January 2022 - which I think was the first Speaker's Corner event outside of London.

To see what Kellie-Jay has built the Standing For Women / Let Women Speak movement into, through sheer hard work, persistence, single mindedness and bucket loads of charisma is so very impressive.

She is truly a force to be reckoned with.

This just made me sob!

I think it must have been quite overwhelming to be there

Nancy I am the most stony hearted oestrogen-drained-away woman you could imagine but that vid made me well up. Thank you for sharing.

Beautiful. 💕

Babdoc · 07/02/2023 13:26

Thanks so much, NancyDrawed - that first video has DD linking hands and singing with the women either side of her. It was lovely to see her having such a great time, and I would have loved to have been there!

Aww how lovely! You must be v proud Smile

NancyDrawed · 07/02/2023 13:50

It was shared by my friend on a terven group chat and I thought it would be appreciated here.

Alice the Journalist did a fantastic job of capturing the spirit of the event for those of us not there, I think.

Tricyrtis2022 · 07/02/2023 13:58

Beautiful film. It made me cry and that rarely happens. What an amazing day that looks and, as said upthread, it must have been overwhelming.

BoreOfWhabylon · 07/02/2023 14:02

Oustanding.
Thank you @NancyDrawed , thank you Alice the Journalist and thank you Kellie-Jay.

EndlessTea · 07/02/2023 14:32

Well that just had me bawling. How lovely.

BlackForestCake · 07/02/2023 14:35

I hope Ellie has real friends around her now.

IwantToRetire · 07/02/2023 16:15

Sorry this may have been posted, but going back to media coverage. Based on waht a friend told me, on the Jeremy Vine Extra on C5(*) today there was a segment on NS falling popularity. Token left commentator was going on about how NS has full support of Scotland to get independence and suggestions that self ID would lose her votes was idiotic, blah, blah.

And then a woman, from Scotland phoned in, and spoke very clearly about how as someone who supports Independence she will vote against NS because of her failure to protect women. And that if anyone doubted that other women felt like her that should just check out the Let Women Speak gathering on sunday.

Just thought I would add this!

(*) I didn't even know was a thing - JV+ - and not surprisingly a woman is allowed to present the programme but there is no publicity for it, no facebook links, no name recognition, no twitter. I wonder if she even gets paid or is just supposed to be so grateful.)

Went looking @IwantToRetire - found this?

Seems like Lowri Turner is Team Terf!

Full event without camera/mic problems

pattihews · 07/02/2023 16:59

I just watched the Posie film. Stunned to hear Posie starting the speech by mentioning lesbians and how long they've had to put up with this shit. I thank her. It's noted. I'm working with groups of straight women where lesbians, with all their years of trying to fight this and all their background knowledge, are talked over and ignored by groups of straight women who've come to this in the last couple of years and would prefer the dykes just to turn out with banners and do as they're told.

Delphinium20 · 07/02/2023 17:13

I wish I knew where it went, but someone wrote a fictionalized "how we got here" tale and it started with the lesbians saying, "this isn't right." Nice to see Posie lead with their voices. Can't wait to watch the rest.

AmuseBish · 07/02/2023 17:32

Possibly this?

Patti I have lesbians in my fam, they alerted me to this years ago <gestures at it all> I was really not listening at first, you are right, you were all shouting into the wind. I am ashamed of how long it took me to sit up.

IwantToRetire · 07/02/2023 17:38

@NicolaSturgeonsSOGIbottom thanks for finding that. I was just puzzled as I was told the show was Jeremy Vine Extra but seems to have no online presence at all.

Good to know someone is prepared to say on tv someone with a penis shouldn't be in a woman's prison!

Suffrajester · 07/02/2023 17:39

I thought his knuckle tattoos said "SCAB", as in strikebreaker. Wouldn't surprise me, for all they go on about us being right-wing they certainly love to undermine workers' rights and give bosses the power to ruin people's careers.

BlackForestCake · 07/02/2023 17:43

That's a good point suffrajester, it used to be a principle that you didn't snitch to the boss when you disagreed with colleagues, and that employees had the right to their own political views and political activity.

TRAs are bringing back blacklisting.

I'm sure we sounded as if we were going insane. I'm surprised it hasn't actually driven more women insane.

Delphinium20 · 07/02/2023 17:52

AmuseBish · 07/02/2023 17:32

Yes! That's the one.

chilling19 · 07/02/2023 17:52

I thought it was moving how many lesbians got up to the mic.
