I travelled to Glasgow on Saturday with my new friends and teen daughter. The event was brilliant. We could hear the speeches for a change! The atmosphere was fab. Most people I spoke to were very aware of the issues and all had signed the Make the equality Act Clear petition.
The speeches were diverse and covered single sex spaces in prisons, hospitals, sports, rape crisis centres, gyno wards. Women sharing their heart wrenching stories whilst the TQ plus people were singing and dancing. Remember they were there to stop women speaking.
The police had separated them from us with a big space. But whilst they were setting up and arriving we saw all their usual disruptive tactics like megaphones.
A fe couldn't help but come right up to our barrier with their signs. One female grabbed a sign off a woman and ripped it then charged around with her top off showing her scars from having her breasts removed shouting "I'm trans and I'm happy". I didn't see this but gave watched it in twitter.
Given the content of the women speakers the protests against us was quite vile. They had obviously been told to behave but I maintain if they had been allowed to be closer to us they would not have been in such a party mood.
I loved my road trip and it was great to be part of history and I know that for everyone there there were 20 plus back home supporting us.
Women will speak and now we are ring heard ( though must if the journalism doesn't mention anything about what was actually spoken).
The differences in the messages of the signs is very clear.
